There were zero tweets from Bucky Gleason last night. Harrington is suddenly playing it very straight on the Sabres and acting like the Tank wasn't his favorite subject for trolling this year.

Game discussion thread GDT: HELL YES BEAT THE PENS 4/11/15

I was at this game. I remember they had a girl dressed as an Indian (or Native American, whatever) skate out before the team (something I remembered my father telling me about from the 70s) and I said to my best friend (who seemed baffled) something along the lines of "####, are they coming out in blue and gold?" Everyone went nuts 1 minute later. And for the love of God, bring back royal blue! -

Great topic, especially now that the Tank is complete. No McDavid: 1. Toronto -- Screw them. Toronto has enough nice things, they don't need this too. Jeremy White and Matt Coller have said they'd "love" this because McDavid versus Eichel would be a new Kelly versus Marino but it's important to remember the reason Bills fans remember that so fondly is that we won most of the games in that rivalry (and seemingly all of the important ones). Not interested. 2. Philadelphia -- To hell with them too. 3. Boston -- See above. 4. Carolina -- I might have been ready to forgive them if they had beaten us on Monday. But it's still 2006 in Carolina for me, and I hate them. 5. Florida -- I don't hate them but they're in our division and already getting pretty good. No thanks. 6. Los Angeles -- Two Stanley Cups in the last 3 years is plenty. Still love your Twitter though. 7. Edmonton -- Enough already with drafting 1st overall! 8. Columbus -- Not our division but roughly the same reason as Florida. 9. Colorado -- Not our conference but roughly the same reason as Florida. Yes, McDavid: 1. Dallas -- I live here. I might buy season tickets. Not our conference, and I'd love to see Lindy Ruff get McDavid. 2. Phoenix -- Yes, Phoenix. Big, growing market that I'd love to help hockey grow in. Also, not our conference so all good. 3. San Jose -- Big market and already a good fan base. But not our conference and all their best players are older so I could live with this. Meh, McDavid: 1. New Jersey -- They're our conference but they're old and I don't hate them like I hate all the other teams in our conference. -
It'll be fun watching Mike Harrington and Bucky Gleason walk this season back. They did wonders for themselves these past few months.

Yes.

2006-2007 was a long time ago. And I honestly can't remember the Sabres having this much promise long term.

There already is. I'm 100% open to keeping Larsson as our no.1 center to start next year just to see what he can do in a full NHL season. Maybe these couple weeks were a fluke, or maybe he turns out to be a really good player for us (or a really good piece to trade). Then Girgensons, and then you're down to two spots for Eichel, Reinhart, and Grigorenko.

Nope. Go Sabres! -
0% chance for McDavid since he won't be eligible. Probably pretty close to 0% chance for Eichel as well since they'd probably want to monitor his development. Maybe 25% for Reinhart? Not even sure if I'd want that. Both Girgensons and Risto got concussions from total cheap shots in the AHL their first pro seasons. My feeling is there are a ton of goons in the AHL.

Winter is coming. over? The Tank is over; let the healing begin. I'm ready for all of us to be friends again. -

Kramer looking at George's hands for the first time and reacting is quietly one of the funniest moments on that show. Love the pause before he gets "masculine!" out. -

GDT Sabres at Blue Jackets 4-10-2015 7PM MSG WGR

That's sort of my point. These games are wildly unpredictable. With 2 minutes left, what would Sportsclub Stats have put the Sabres chances of losing in regulation at? Maybe 2%? So that's about as valuable to me as their 98% chance of us finishing 30th that we started the week with. -

Basically, this. Suddenly they're on a mission. Is there a worse statement to make for yourself than to completely fail when it could matter but then do something to make it worse afterwards to soothe your ego? We don't know if the Blue Jackets will even show up tonight. And we saw in the Islanders game that a random bounce off a stick laying on the ice can determine these games. And if not for a Toews miracle, we would have beaten the Blackhawks to be tied with Arizona right now. -

Welcome to Buffalo. The quote in your signature seems especially pertinent for this game. -

Yep. Although it's less "sweating" and more like embracing the grim realization that we're heading for the worst ending to a season in Buffalo history. (Yes, worse than the Super Bowl losses. Worse than Homerun Throw-forward. Worse than Brett Hull. Worse than Darius Kasparitis. Worse than Jay McKee's staph infection.) -

Great idea starting another GDT for the Coyotes. At least we'll have someplace to vent... -
No, it's a 1% chance of drafting McDavid *and* using our pick to get Eichel or Strome/Marner/Hanifin -- basically the single greatest draft haul in NHL history. Also something that could only happen in an alternate universe where wonderful things magically happen for Buffalo. EDIT: For some reason I thought we were talking about the Sabres picking up a lottery ball if the Islanders collapse, not Pittsburg collapsing to help Edmonton. I denounce myself.
-
Actually the guy who said that in the movie ended up with a dead fiance and half his face blown off. (And then he went crazy and died.) So roughly the equivalent of drafting 3rd this year. :(

Hasek was practically free. Pegula and his billions arrived out of nowhere. Our original logo was an instant classic that emerged from a doodle on a cocktail napkin.

This shot really stood out to me during the show but I couldn't put my finger on why. And I actually read a different take on it yesterday talking about him looking East *to his past as a scammer* versus West (to his future as a legitimate, well-paid lawyer). It's a shot of him looking the wrong way. If you don't want to be whipped, take the job with the six-figure income and the incredible career potential. Succeed there and you won't need help from Kim or Chuck or anyone else. Again, it would have made more sense for him to break free by deciding to do something for a quick score. He didn't gain anything but walking away, and he left a lot on the table by doing it. It's just weird.

Have any of these non-Sabres GDTs ever resulted in an outcome we wanted?
