  1. From the front page of NHL.com: I counted at least four other bright spots.
  2. Of course they would. I'm ok with that. Maybe give them the old Regiertradenutsqueeze and have them toss in a 4th/5th.
  3. Come on Columbus....you have three first round draft picks... give up one of them for Stafford...preferably Blue Jackets or Rangers pick.
  4. Maybe it says that, but it would also be a factor that other teams that would be interested in those players don't want to pay the price- which may or may not include roster players in return- before making their playoff runs. An anonymous GM was quoted as saying that dealing for Vanek was an "offseason move" for this reason.
  5. Now, please. Although it doesn't really make a difference, but I'd like the peace of mind. Generally speaking,,trading now would likely mean draft picks/prospects, summer would likely mean roster players. Maybe latter's better.
  6. Yeah, right here. If you believe everything a sports opinion writer writes, that's worse than believing the company line from the franchise. Think for yourselves. Bucky can be right or wrong, but think for yourselves.
  7. I'm not even sure that's worth anyone's two cents. It assumes that 2nd round picks later are worth less than 2nd round picks now- which isn't necessarily incorrect, but is certainly debatable, and therefore not good footing from which one should trash ownership.
  8. Hahaha... ######.
  9. You get it right.
  10. This. No reason the hate on the Penguins needs to stop. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Oy6DwHAi70
  11. Playoffs this year are going to be really interesting.
  12. Reggie is Sekera's nickname, by the way.
  13. A 1st, Cundari (undrafted), and Berra (4th rounder) for J-Bo? Maybe about right, if Bouwmeester actually performs. Shedding Stafford and getting his return makes a better team than shedding Pominville for his return. I'm not sure if that linguistically makes sense, but the right move is to sell Stafford for his return first. That's based on the idea that this team is worse with Stafford on it, and could still be pretty good with Pommer on it.
  14. Somebody, not in the Sabres org, was quoted recently as saying a move for Vanek would most likely be "an offseason" deal, most likely because of this. Buyers want to buy. Sellers would probably be ok with trading players, but if they've "become sellers," they're probably patient enough to wait until the draft or the UFA signing period (where they could address needs without sending away assets).
  15. Rumors had LA being the most interested buyer, and they don't have a 1st round pick this year. Any other contender with their level of interest may have given us one, although it could be said that Murray set the market a little bit.
  16. Hnnnngggg. Gas up the jet.
  17. Hope he does well, and the rest of the team sucks our 2nd round picks up a few notches.
  18. Looks like many of us nailed Regehr's value too. Go us.
  19. He's a UFA, so he's been in trade rumors for weeks (months?). Not with us. Mostly with Boston, a few others. Reports are that the asking price is very high for him, and his movement's complicated by his full NTC.
  20. Heh, Ward hadn't twatted since Wednesday when he prematurely called the Iginla trade. So is his credibility smashed or do you think he's being more careful?
  21. Jesus. Sid Abel's been dead for 13 years.
  22. The trade value thread has Hecht presumably pulling in a 4th (picks 91-120). Also, Cornell.
  23. I'm at the point now where any upcoming UFA we can sell as a rental for picks, I say do it. And then sell Stafford anyways. If we're close to market value in our other thread, then Regehr, Stafford, and Hecht become roughly 1st round pick, 1st round pick, and 4th round pick Gives the Sabres picks: 1,1,1,2,2,3,4,5,5,5,6,7, if St Lous doesn't trigger the conditional 4th (from 5th). That'll be five or so picks in the first 45-50 picks OR some solid capital with which to trade before draft time to move up in draft or acquire established players. And that's just the benefit of getting return on players that we a) don't want or b) don't need. Edit: And this isn't to ###### on Regehr much. I sort of assume that he's going UFA because he hasn't been re-signed yet, and I'm ambivolent about that. (That would make the trade effectively Butler (former 4th), Byron (former 6th) -> 1st, 2nd; quite an ugly fleecing)
  24. Gerbe was a finalist the year Porter won it. Ballard, Conklin, Reinprecht were finalists.
