What were the old tropes? Team Storm Cloud? Team ... Sunshine and Kittens?

What savings might otherwise be projected? Idk. I really don't. I appreciate your analysis. Given how Pegula's run this franchise, I no longer give him the benefit of the doubt. If there are two plausible explanations for a personnel decision -- and one of them is rooted in Pegula's being miserly -- I'll presume that the decision was principally motivated by a desire to conserve costs.

Adams may take the fall, but that trade can readily (and perhaps most logically) be seen through the prism of Pegula's being cheap with payroll. The further we get from the trade, the less sense it makes.

lol - appreciated. i'm just trying to contribute to the board's poetics.

There's no doubt that he needs to learn how to better use his body when defending. But he certainly doesn't need to be a crease-clearing gorilla (or even just a garden variety bruiser) in order to do that. I'm confident that he'll learn that part of the d-game as he matures.

In a game with a gajillion real time fluid variables, it's almost as though there are multiple ways to be really effective at accomplishing something.

the guy takes a lot of grief. but i try to keep things in perspective. he fairly ripped it up last year calling plays for a patchwork D.

It does not surprise me that the waived Bills players weren't claimed. Years gone by, you could count on several waived Bills players being claimed. This season, that distinction more belongs to Green Bay. The Bills are in the process of re-tooling and rebuilding on the fly. They have a massive dead cap hit this season. They are pretty thin.

Johnny Gaudreau and Brother Matthew Killed by Drunk Driver

Oh, dear God. I see that it somehow gets worse, the more you learn. Like others have said: This was not an accident. It was an incident. And it's more than fair to say that a drunk driver killed the Gaudreaus. Let's set aside the degrees of manslaughter/murder for now. -

Jesus Christ. Just awful. RIP. May their family and friends be comforted. -
@deluca67 .500? (also, great post. thanks. good luck to your daughter.)

I infer that you took my post more literally than I intended it.

If Terry continues to operate with an internal cap and a feckless Opie as GM — and the team continues to finish in that 85 point (or fewer) range — he will soon be taking a run at the title of Buffalo’s all-time worst pro sports franchise owner. And that includes the Rigases and whoever moved the Braves to California (Snyder?). Whither such faith? Such hope? I’m sort of jealous.

The closer the season gets, the more dread I feel. Regarding the Sabres, I mean. The approach of the NHL season isn't making me feel increased dread about life in general. Not yet, anyway.

And then he and the Sabres just kept on shooting.

As I think about it, Adams making a "big" hockey trade that doesn't seem to make much sense and keeps the Sabres on an ~87 point pace is quintessential of the Adams (Pegula) era. These are dark days, I fear. I just have a bad feeling about things. I'll call my shot now: 2024-2025 Sabres will make an heroic run to 87 points.

19 points over 18 games is an ~87 point pace. Am I missing/misreading something?

He would immediately join the pantheon of try-hard-white-guys that are IRRATIONALLY BELOVED by a couple people in most fantasy football leagues (Witten, Beasley spring to mind). Those FFB contestants would clamour to have league rules changed so that they could select individual D players and pick Sean Lee 2.0.

your posts have an enjoyable early 2000s blog vibe to them.

I resisted it for a while, as I very casually watched the game. But as time went on and he was still in there, still balling out, I had to hand it to the guy. He every bit looked the part of an NFL LB. Was it just a flash in the pan? A moment in time? Or a sign of things to come? We'll learn soon enough, I reckon.

Avett Brothers this Friday in Cleveland Town. An Avett show is quite like "going to church." I mean that in the proverbial way - not in a mundane way. Their shows (can) make you feel better about yourself, the world, and such. It's little wonder that their grandfather was a Methodist minister.

I’m trying to catch a vibe with the Bills - for the fun of it. More soberly, I think they will do well to make the playoffs — especially as these injuries continue to mount.
