  1. UPL got extended? Is there not a separate thread for that?
  2. Great thread. One thing I didn't see mentioned upthread -- if you're looking for more garlic punch -- you should consider adding some later in the cooking process. The sauteing (sp?) to which you're referring (which sounds lovely btw) is mellowing the garlic. If you want some of that vampire-repelling kick (say it with me: HI, MY NAME'S HARVEY, FROM HOUSTON), I think some less-cooked fresh chopped garlic would help. And as others have noted: Salting to taste will help everything else pop. Shoutout the spinach suggestion from @SwampD. That sounds fantastic. (If working with frozen, just make sure to wring it out well with a tea towel. I love working with the fresh stuff because it's like, "holy crap, I need a larger kitchen just to accommodate all this leafy green goodness," and then, put it in the heated mix and BAM, it's reduced to like a cup.) Finally, this dish does not appear compliant with the life changing dietary path illuminated by @matter2003. Govern yourself accordingly. (Which mostly means: Keep your shirt on at the beach.)
  3. Perhaps to get to some player that they value way, way higher than the Sabres do? With the NHL especially, I get the sense that, once you get outside that first tier of undisputed prized prospects, there's a legitimate muddle among the next ~40 (?) prospects -- where Team A could have a player at 35 on its board and Team B could have the same player at 12.
  4. I missed the flow of the chatter upthread about teachers. Put me in the camp of admiring the hell out of what those folks do and believing that most (or even nearly all) of them are underpaid for what they do.
  5. And, lo, from the scorched earth there emerged an olive branch. Take it easy on the ladies’ necks, beefcake.
  6. Like I said: You're not a candidate for the conversation to which I alluded above. I will, though, put this here and then try to leave it alone: My long-suffering, beloved wife and I do all of the things that you reference above (and, in fact, quite a bit more). Under the supervision of several registered dieticians (we've had different ones over the years), we've been doing those things consistently (and finding new and better things to do) for over a decade. While the lab panels have improved in a lot of ways (but stubbornly not in all ways), the visible results have been unimpressive (or even non-existent). It appears that we have an uphill climb, based on a combination of several factors. We are not unique. We are, in fact, two among 10s of millions of Americans who find themselves in similar situations (granted, we are probably among a smaller percentage of the cohort that is "doing all the right things"). This cohort of people is not comprised of slovenly moral failures, as you suggest (cruelly so, I'll add). For our part, we often find ourselves mystified and discouraged by how our corporal forms have seemingly defied and betrayed us. It appears that there's only so much that can be done. We'll keep at it, of course. We have each other, and much to look forward to.
  7. It is somewhat irrational - but nonetheless very, very real - that I reflexively winced when I saw that video-still preview above. I just have zero confidence in those guys at the moment.
  8. The Krebs talk is excruciating.
  9. Where the hell’s matter gotten off to? The eye candy around here sucks without him.
  10. As long as the thread has also convinced you that we have in our midst a man who - by virtue of being a veritable Rod the Bod - generates business for chiropractors when he struts shirtless at area beaches.
  11. Looking for a paragon of American exceptionalism? Look no further. And, ladies, worry not, as we have free panty liners on-hand to help manage that spontaneous moisture you’re experiencing. There are serious, nuanced points that could be made about Americans’ struggles with obesity — the causes, the solutions (?), the struggles, etc. But this is decidedly not a person with whom I’d venture to have that conversation.
  12. What in the absolute fresh hell is going on in here. In a neat bit of irony, the sanctimonious, self-satisfied, finger-wagging, fat-scolding being blared upthread makes PA's yucking LGR's stats-yum seem genteel in comparison. Full marks. I have one of those myself!
  13. I enjoy JFresh's content. But if #fancystats are extolling McDavid's performance in the SCF, then they don't square with the eye test, IMO. From where I sit (and watch most of the games) and excepting the Game 4 blowout, McDavid has not been able to step forward and assert himself in the way that the Oilers need(ed) him to. I concluded a while ago that he's injured -- something seems to be inhibiting his shot (a core injury? a wrist injury?).
  14. I thought I had our local provocateur settled down, admittedly taking a loser point -- but then someone here rousted him from his post-Ovaltine torpor.
  15. Re McDonough: “ESPN sources described McDonough as devastated that he’s been affected by the illness at a time in which he’s calling the Stanley Cup Final for the second time since the network reacquired its NHL rights in 2021. He has even gone as far as to consult with team doctors in Edmonton in an attempt to overcome the illness. The 62-year-old broadcaster previously missed the Game 2 matchup between the Florida Panthers and New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Final on May 24. It is believed that McDonough’s current illness could could stem from his previous one, which may have worsened with the lengthy flight from Florida to Edmonton between Games 2 and 3 this week.“ http://amp.awfulannouncing.com/nhl/espn-confirms-sean-mcdonough-fighting-through-illness-during-stanley-cup-final.html What could he have going on over that stretch of time? Pneumonia?
  16. I recently inboxed him - hoping a notification would go through to an email account he still uses. I also took that opportunity to .pdf-spindle-print 20+ pages of inbox messages we had that contained our combined effort to gather information regarding the Pegulas. Still some fascinating stuff in there. Plenty of loose ends.
