  1. Man. Remember the "Sam Reinhart Will Be Fine" mantra? Good times. Simpler times.
  2. Term and total value are fairly meaningless in the NFL. It's mostly a question of guaranteed money.
  3. Drafted 4th overall in 2012. Islanders exposed him to expansion waivers in 2017. Las Vegas selected him, and then re-assigned him to the AHL in late October. #silverspoon
  4. Amen, I say: Amen.
  5. This was a bit strong. This was more than fair. And this was maybe a slight over-correction. My truth: Sam Reinhart may not be fine. A'tall. I still think he can be a good top (middle?)-6 NHL forward. But right now? The jury is out.
  6. Holy smokes - that would be banana pants for the family. Unless they're married a la the Clintons -- like, not really married at all. I think that's right. Ha! Precisely. In any case, she may be unlikely to win. Such a run might be more stepping up to the plate as a dutiful soldier of the State GOP. Terry had a select few things to say about the new de facto chief officer of his $1.4B venture. One of the things he said was that he was faith-based. Far from being nothing, that is quite something. Ignore it if you so choose. You know what they say about the house of illusion -- cheap to build, drafty to live in. Just a great post here. When his brother played his way out of the NHL, I became genuinely concerned with whether these hockey legacy boys were the wrong sorts of players. There's still time for Sam, but he's running out of it.
  7. No push. That really does capture this squad.
  8. I might quibble with that order in terms of draft priority, but I'm plenty good with a RB in round 3 or 4 . They just gotta get a good one. More than do-able. The team's success in identifying Milano as an LB that fits their scheme is also encouraging. Also, with the Kelvin Benjamin acquisition, I'm not so sure how much they'll prioritize WR in the draft. I guess I'm thinking the draft priority goes; QB, DT, RB, LB, etc.
  9. Shut yo mouth. The more I think about it, the more I am of a mind that Taylor should and will be the presumptive starter next season. One priority the team needs to fill for the upcoming offseason: Getting a proper apprentice to McCoy (or a proper plan to have a run game without him). The guy has had a remarkable season, especially for his age and his wear on the tread, but it's not going to keep up. Father Time is undefeated, especially so with NFL running backs. Word.
  10. There's obviously some license being taken there (call it PA-etic license), but I'd lay nearly even odds that it's an accurate assessment of things that Terry Pegula would agree with and endorse. Wearing your cross out: Terry himself talked about McDermott's hiring being in part because he's a faith-based leader. I don't think there's really any disputing this point anymore. Red wine: That was specifically reported as part of the advice that Toady Brandon gave to Rex (?) so he could woo the Pegulas. Bootstraps: This one I think is more inferential. But given his apparent political leanings and his own rags(ish) to riches story, it's a more than fair guess. All of that said, I have no idea whether any of that played a role in hiring Housley. I can't even recall how involved the Pegulas were in hiring Housley, tbh -- was it more a JBOT project?
  11. Tip of the hat to ye, sir.
  12. From what I understood (a long time ago), he's a credentialed former NFL scout/pro personnel guy. Walter Football is just one man's (or one site's) opinion, but it is from someone (or some people?) who worked in the biz.
  13. I seen what you did there. Btw, looking back at that draft class (2013) -- was it worse overall than normal? About the same? I briefly searched for a site that would provide evaluations for draft years, and compare one to another, after they'd aged 3 years or so. But I did not readily find such a site.
  14. You may wanna up the dosage, homes. I'm no kool-aid drinker. Nor is Eleven, for that matter. They did reach for Manuel, and it most definitely did not work out. That is neither the first nor last time an NFL team will reach for a QB and have it blow up in their face. But it was a rational risk to take, in my eyes. It was also a decision tainted with some desire for self-preservation on the part of the decision makers, but that's almost always the case -- if the team is bad, the FO will be gone soon enough. They wanted to get better in a hurry. And so they rolled the dice on the big fella. It was not a *good* risk, in my mind (even at the time, I was not a fan) -- but it was a rational risk. The talk about it being mindless and idiotic is over-played to me. That sort of talk does have some place with the Watkins decision -- that was a B-A-D BAD call. Just dumb asset management.
  15. It was a decent plan that went horribly awry after a bad injury (bad injuries?). I think Manuel was rightly seen as the best of that bunch -- certainly, he had the most upside.
  16. Remember that conversation that some sports blogging pranksters created, and then recorded, between Buddy Nix and some other team's FO exec? Nix freely admitted: It was a terrible year to need a QB. They took their best shot.
  17. I'm good with Tyrod coming back next year -- even knowing everything that he is, and is not. In point of fact, I'd rather they change OC's than try to do something different at QB next year (or, at least, tweak the current system so it's not such an ill fit for Taylor (and maybe that's already occurred?)). If they do draft a QB in round 1, I'd prefer he not be obliged to start.
  18. Nice feature on Matt Milano in today's paper. The guy really has played quite well. Occurs to me: McDermott sure does love him some Boston College linebackers.
  19. There's a LOTTA context outside of that one hit into the boards. And it was a different game in the 70s, wherein teams like the Bruins and Flyers made it their business to intimidate their opponents with physical play and regular beat-downs.
  20. That's not how the rule gets applied, though. Yeah? I mean, players regularly draw the puck in a backward direction in the course of stick-handling or making a deke. Movement toward the goal seems to be evaluated from a bigger picture perspective.
  21. ^ That English reads pretty simply to me. I saw the Twitter replies to the NHL's posting of the video and a comment upthread. There's the talk about how lateral movement is permitted by the rule. I don't see anything about lateral movement in the rule. But it's possible that interpretive memos (remember those?) have clarified that you can move laterally across the face of the goal or goal line, so long as you remain in motion.
  22. I read that they used ping pong balls to draw the groups. That remains the easiest lot drawing system to rig. Unreal - even for FIFA.
  23. Not a’tall. Eff that guy forever.
