  1. In fairness, Borque is really an outlier. As is Ryan Miller. The large majority of those guys occupy a middle range that is decidedly non-cerebral, IMO. I mean, I think Eichel is a bright, savvy, funny guy. But cerebral? Not so much.
  2. And that latter group are Albert Einsteins compared to, say, a Ray Borque. Holy moley, that guy.
  3. I mean, we’ve got Okposo. Can’t rightly sign another good, not great, winger whose best work is largely behind him.
  4. That’s not a paradigm I’m proposing (cerebrals/dumb gladiators). They may have lots of thoughts about many things (such as the number they want to wear) and they may even veer into being head cases at times, but pro athletes, as a cohort, are far from cerebral.
  5. [Enego Montoya voice]: I do not think that word means what you think it means. I can’t think of a less cerebral cohort of people than pro athletes.
  6. It’s griping over the Eichel 15s and 9s that grinds my gears, I guess. Not here necessarily. Also, I am drinking.
  7. Now I love it again.
  8. I loved this topic, until it evolved (devolved?) into perseveration over jerseys owned.
  9. Twitter is lousy with dweebs crying over now having the "wrong" number.
  10. It looks right. I can't find the quote about when he chose 15 - but he alluded to the fact that he likes the low numbers. 9 is good and low. YES!
  11. with the caption: "New season, old number." Let's gooooooo.
  12. Pretty slim chance, I'd think. But, at the same time, a very marginal investment and risk. Truly. He really was a fun player to watch and cheer for.
  13. That's how I saw it, tbh -- a smart-money, low-risk, high-upside move. That's notwithstanding the struggles Ennis has had. There's still that chance he finds his form. And if he does -- playing sheltered minutes down on the third line? He could be a real asset.
  14. Once your down in that range, a 1st is really just a 1st in name only. And Callahan may only have 2 years left, but it's semantics on what to call that contract. If not an albatross -- an anchor, maybe? Cement shoes? Chicago overcoat?
  15. (And I thought it was an odd choice. Even so: Curtis Brown was a perfectly fine Sabre!)
  16. Just saw a Tweet from ... someone ... saying their best source with the highest "batting average" said Karlsson to the Lightning, book it. Also said a third team may be involved for salary-movement purposes.
  17. Interesting take. I do think that's essentially what he does -- try to achieve by quantity what FGMTM thought he could achieve by quality. It's not to say that there's no qualitative judgment going into what JBOT is doing, but generating some volume is clearly a priority.
  18. Right. This isn't a matter of him reconciling himself to a sh1tty NASCAR number that Ripper assigned to him. They let him choose, and this is what he chose.
  19. He talked about liking it, fwiw.
  20. name histories are gone, yeah?
