  1. I'll be on the lookout for this. I think Sam's strong on his skates. My sense has been that he might do a bit better with a heavier team than he does with a fast team.
  2. Meh. I’d venture he hired those people. Also, I’m long past holding that galoot to the stuff he said. He had no frickin’ idea what he was getting into. Some would say he still doesn’t.
  3. Yeah. Something is afoot. Might be as simple as PSE wanting to get to a next level with HarborCenter. Gilbert’s been around a long time - he might have just phased out of a changing, evolving entity (remember he used to be the head of PR?). And Fattey strikes me as a fairly homespun sort of guy. Maybe PSE looked at the 2018 numbers, and told these guys it was time to go. Tough stuff.
  4. Resigned, eh? Hmm. Also, let's keep in mind: Not re-signed.
  5. These reports are terrifying (and "awesome" in the strict sense of the word). I'm glad he's out west.
  6. TBL and TOR are both pretty smallish teams.
  7. Good post. Credit to the Sabres for winning a game that was there for the taking -- for taking the play to the Devils. That said: I cannot recall the last time I saw a Sabres game in-person where I repeatedly commented -- out loud -- how pathetic and hapless the other team was in their d-zone. There were sequences where the Devils looked like the Keystone Cops in their own zone.
  8. We sat down in the end where the Sabres shot during the 2nd. What a riot. The Devils d-corps was a hot mess all night.
  9. also, this made me legit LOL.
  10. plenty of time for that bro to go from can't miss prospect to jp losman with better hair.
  11. I agree with this - right down to being impressed with how much Allen was able to show. I mean, I'm far from sold on the guy. I am certain that he won't be able to get as much on the ground next season. But he showed things that create a credible hope for growth and quality. I am also relieved not to have to add Rosen to the Mahomes regret syndrome. Not yet anyway.
  12. I'm going to the game on a school night. Lord, I hope it's a good showing. I also hope that Eichel plays. Based on the charts I saw this morning (one is pasted below (I love that guy's stuff)), this Devils team plays a pretty open style. Also, it fascinates me that, while people might understandably think that the Hurricanes regret losing Skinner, their #fancystat shot rate is among the league's very best (i.e., they give up a small # of SA's and they generate a lot themselves).
  13. I didn’t invite or seek a discussion of Trumpism, or any other school of political thought or social organization. And anyone who wants to take my post that way can kindly stand down. I’m really talking about CK. What’s he on about?
  14. Maybe scroll upthread? The conversation started about CK specifically. He’s presenting an interesting and complicated situation. I generally distrust orthodoxies of all kinds. Trumpism is among the very worst of them.
  15. Not so. Did you listen to the leaked audio? Whether CK intended it or not, there were some clearly audible hoots and hollers from the crowd that belonged to voices readily identifiable as the sort who are among Trump’s base. One guy in the crowd — re the Parkland activists — said something like “yeeeeeah - eff them.” The vibe was unmistakable, imo. [I acknowledge this is “imo” in nature. But it’s a good faith take.] I am holding to the belief that CK wants nothing to do with that crowd. But the guy has always been very money savvy and money motivated. It’s possible that he sees a market opportunity.
  16. Yep. I have a niece at a well-known northeastern liberal arts college. She serves on their Stu-Co. They had a big chunk of cash to spend on various events. She related in disbelief how they couldn’t many well-known comics (including Seinfeld), even though they could pay the advertised rate. This doesn’t change the fact that CK might be a craven money-grubbing Trumpist-pandering arsehole, btw. I’m not sure where he’s headed.
  17. Bro, do you even lift? Also, I thought @... 's post above was really good.
  18. Hear, hear. I've seen plenty of mistakes. Those are to be expected -- this season and for some time beyond. I've also seen lots of stuff that's astonished and amazed me. I've also seen the side-by-side comparison of him and Hedman over the same period of time. Dahlin's numbers are way ahead of where Hedman was. The kid may end up as the Sabres' best skater ever.
  19. John Cleese is the very antithesis of a shock comedian, and he recently gave a withering explanation of why we won’t play/appear at colleges anymore — after decades of doing so. And he’s far from alone among good comics.
  20. I’m genuinely ambivalent about the leaked CK audio. The jokes were bad - verging on hack stuff. The optics of the situation are definitely bad for him. But I’m also distrustful of a culture that developed which has made many, many comedians reluctant or unwilling to tour college campuses. When fueled by a Twitter-backlash, that culture can be suffocating.
  21. I am not an attentive fan of late. Just took stock of our middle 6 and especially our third line. Holy hell.
