    Sabrespace lore.

this could be a fun offseason thread.

have we had one before? recently? i think we have - under a different title - like "in-joke orientation for the newbs" or some such.

there are so many in-jokes here. there are probably more of them that have been forgotten than are currently in use.

Dudacek is the progeny of neo and X. He carries on the legacy of superiority and aloofness and sophistication well.

No person who ever sat beside a pool should ever wear the "C" for an NHL franchise.

Your disdain for the fans is remarkable.

I think the "disdain" is for the absolute bonkers idea that a young man taking a poolside vacay pic during the frickin' offseason makes him too much of a "good vibes" "chill bro" to be a captain.

    1 hour ago, PASabreFan said:

OK maybe. But the disdain jab has been coming. Dudacek has been in this mode for a long time. The fans just can't see how great things are. It's the drought coloring their opinions... Certainly not the team. Cozens gets the snark because he disappeared last season.

I think he has being facetious about the pool side pictures?    Could be wrong.

After looking at his pool pictures I do recommend he start hit the weight room harder than ever.   Strength training every other day, until camp.   Seriously, the kid needs to get on a muscle building program.

I'm at least a little ambivalent that my "homogenous chill Sabre bros lounging poolside celebrating their big contracts when they haven't accomplished sh1t" take is on the verge of becoming part of Sabrespace lore.

I guess it'd be that, and the Concept of Kassian.

He is really good. It’s just the quality of his voice when gets really excited. A little too much like Gonzo, for me.

There is a rolling, almost gargling quality in his voice when he makes a big call. It’s a form of dynamics. It’s a matter of taste, I guess, as to whether one likes it. I enjoy it. His overall call of a game is so clean as well.

    Man, Florida looks good.

I'm not a big fan of this guy, but he's infinitely better than the guy they had doing the last Rangers/Panthers game. That guy was a drip.

Well, Wischusen absolutely grew up a Rangers fan.

For my money, he’s the best hockey pbp caller at ESPN. He clearly knows and loves the sport. Shades of Gary Thorne at times.

And he gets around. Radio voice for the NY Jets. Lots of ESPN college football. The guy does it all - and with class and a voice that can match big game moments.

Rando thought - and apologies if someone has already said it somewhere else ... is it at all possible that the players were also talking about internal locker room leadership when they talked about someone pushing them harder? KO was gone - maybe they were saying "gee, he sure was a swell guy, but what we really needed was a real arse-kicker to flip tables during intermissions if we were not crushing the opponent"? I dunno, just some musings.

Fair point. It now starts with Lindy and Adams ability to acquire some talent with an edge. Coach and players.

It's a well-taken point. You hear this a lot (because it's true, I think): "Teams take on the personality of their head coach."

As captain and a veteran leader, KO was an appropriate extension of Granato's personality. And the team did take on Granato's personality (as well as reflect his underdeveloped understanding of high-level strategy in the NHL (remember the comment about how playing against Granato's Sabres was often like playing a high school team?)).

Let's see what happens when this team takes on Ruff's personality.

In 50+ years of following Bills and NFL football, that was one of the best defensive plays I’ve ever seen.  Hyde came from out of camera view to close and pick that off.

Watching it from where we were in the 300s, I saw the play develop and was like "ah sh1t, touchd -- WHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

    Excuse me? The Titans?

Lol - fair point. I have examined my sports-soul. I find no animus there for the Tennessee Titans.

Surprisingly, I find that I do still have some latent sports-hatred for the Houston Oilers. (Yes, yes - The Comeback. But there were other times, I seem to recall, where the Oilers (with Moon at QB) were giving the Bills fits. Didn't Haywood Jeffries once torch the Bills in a crucial game (not The Comeback game)?)

Yea I think McDavid is playing hurt. He hasn’t been shooting when normally he would shoot.

Not sure if it was Game 6 or 7 - but there was that one instance that made it so obvious that he doesn't trust/have his shot. He had a window into an open half of the goal - but passed.

The Stars... eh.  They're probably my third or fourth favorite team.  I don't hate them anymore.

This concept is utterly foreign to me.

I have one favourite NHL team: The Buffalo Sabres.

Now, the list of teams I despise? That’s a bit longer.

The over all game mngt? McDermott is still here. We shall see.

This is absolutely his Achilles heel.

Perhaps a ray of hope: Remember when Andy Reid was an offensive mastermind who built strong team culture but couldn't manage games at crucial times? Eventually, Reid got that part figured out. (Of course, having two first ballot HOFers who may go down as the best at their respective skill positions (QB, TE) has something to do with that as well.)

    Paging George Carlin.

I am a huge George Carlin fan. 🙂

Carlin would have a field day with virtue signaling whoppers like turning “homeless” into “unhoused.”

Louie CK takes a run at such things in his bit regarding the “R-word.” (And mind you, I consider that word essentially off limits — but CK makes great points in his bit about the word’s elimination from common speech.)

There's no conversation to be had. nfreeman has decreed that Bills social media is off limits.

He was just doing normal admin things when things got offensive.

Also, I know you weren’t saying there was an intentional effort to mock the homeless and homelessness. I think I understand your point — this is sort of a cheap, casual cruelty.

I just … it’s too much. Too sensitive.

P.s. I thought I posted this hours ago. Found it sitting on this tab as a draft of sorts.

Jordan Poyer? Or does he have a younger brother I don't know about 😉

Lol - the Broncos' former safety's name is Justin. Hence the brain cramp.

Apparently the Bills met with former NCAA heavyweight champion wrestler, Olympic gold medalist and former WWE prospect, Gable Steveson.

IDK what the outcome would be as Steveson didn’t even play high school football let alone college.

This is becoming (has been?) a thing in the NFL: Take a no risk flyer on a physical freak.

What a lovely turn this thread has taken.

Let's get back to discussing the Bills, please.

That Broncos safety (Simmons) is still out there. 2nd team all pro last season. 30 years old.

Seems like he's getting a bit of the Justin [EDIT: JORDAN] Poyer treatment. Didn't Poyer test free agency last offseason - after being named an all pro? - before returning to the Bills for the 2023 season?
