Really good takes/insights here.

I can't fathom this perspective. When I watch these games as a neutral hockey fan, I am simply in awe of how the guy plays the game. And, honestly, I can't understand the perspective even coming from a fan of a team playing against the Oilers.

Spent the weekend in Central NY for two Avett Brothers shows at Beak and Skiff. And lemme tell you something. That Beak and Skiff venue is really something. I can't say enough good things about the facilities they've put together. I will look forward to returning for more shows (likely the Avetts in 2027). It involves a weekend-away type plan for people in the 716, but it is well worth the effort. Bonus/value added: We stayed in a cottage in the woods of Cazenovia. The cottage is on the same plot as the owner's home -- so a VRBO/Air BnB, but the good kind (since the owner is present and invested). We also kicked around the Village (of Cazenovia) and found a very nice hike to do on Saturday during the day. I was heretofore unfamiliar with the towns and villages that populate that Fingers Lakes stretch of Route 20. Rolling hills, etc. Just beautiful.

I suck. Sorry. I meant that he hadn't worked for another NHL team's front office. I believe he's still intermittently employed by the NHL -- as a league ambassador, etc. -

It seems odd that LaFontaine hasn't sniffed another NHL (EDIT) team job since his abrupt departure from the Sabres in March 2014. I looked at his Wiki to get that date. There, I learned that LaFontaine's tenure with the Islanders' FO was even shorter than it was in Buffalo -- a mere 6 weeks during the summer of 2006. -
I couldn't make it until the end last night. I watched until the game was tied. Holy sh1t balls is that some good ice hockey.

Buffalo, man. I'm fairly sure that you would have helped care for a family friend's kid who just graduated at the top of her high school class locally. (She's a 2006-born kid who was red-shirted before starting school - owing in large part to some challenges she faced early in life.) Big stick taps to you. -

I'm not gonna start a new thread for this. I've had 2 people who work in downtown Buffalo text me to say either that they saw Danny Briere this morning or spoke to someone who claims to have seen Danny Briere in downtown Buffalo this morning. Is this just some real-time Mandela Effect bullspit? I have no idea what Briere would be doing in town. -

I think about this as well. It's not just the absence of her role, her personality with the sports teams -- but also the toll it must take on Terry to have a spouse who's become disabled. (Please don't take that last bit the wrong way.) -

A bit of a chicken and the egg analysis, imo. I believe that Pegula chose Adams precisely because he perceived the absence of such "skills" in Adams. It was those same skills, I think, that prompted the Pegulas' statement that they weren't being "heard" by Botterill. They (he) wanted someone who would be a direct expression of their (his) "vision" for the Sabres. That vision is little more than a tragic folly -- leading to nothing but waste and ruin. (Sorta sticking with the LOTR tones there.) -

Thanks - sorry for misunderstanding where you're coming from. Sticking with the metaphor: Grima (Adams) doesn't cast the spell on Theoden (Pegula). Grima is just a sycophant serving at the pleasure and direction of the evil wizard who has cast that spell. In our scenario, I don't think there's a third party who has caused Pegula to me misled. Unless we're gonna get super metaphysical and identify Pegula's hubris as some sentient entity from which he needs to be liberated. -

the lore is that Beane more wanted Darnold; that it was Pegula who caught a vibe off Allen; and that it was the owner's say-so that allowed the team to remain at 7 (?) and choose Allen. i am now legitimately ... hopeful that Jarmo is a sort of Gandalf. i also remain skeptical, since i don't think Terry can be reset to some noble leader state of mind. -

to be clear: the grima wormtongue trope likens Adams to Grima. Grima is not under a spell. It is the noble king of Rohan (?) who is under the spell. And Grima is the on-site tool of an evil wizard who cast the spell. the spell leaves the king looking like this. the analogy founders because it's not as though Pegula is some noble leader whose liberation from some soul/mind control spell is all we need. adams is a grima corollary, for sure. but pegula is no theoden (sp?). -

I legit chortled when I read that. [Prime Lindy voice]: THAT'S A JOKE. I've pushed that trope quite a bit. Where it founders: Pegula is not some noble king under a spell. And Jarmo isn't Gandalf - coming in to release Pegula from the hex. -

One thing this article reminded me of: Terry used to coach his son Michael in youth hockey. The guy really does think he knows puck.
