We are giving oxygen to at least one leak of information that the family undoubtedly wanted kept private — that she’s in an ICU. So, we’re party to that. As @PASabreFanis fond of noting: The Pegulas as owners essentially hold a beloved public institution in trust. So the question of whether one of them is in or out of the woods of ill health is going to generate incredible interest. Edited: I originally said that we were "not" party to that. Woops. (Btw, where'd the strike through font go?)

The question of ownership is as fundamental an issue as we can have around here. It appears that one of the team’s owners - the younger of the 2 by a good measure - is in some sort of mortal danger. In terms of non-hockey matters, I’d be hard pressed to think of a more relevant topic for this board. I understand their desire for privacy. Unfortunately for the Pegulas, Kim is an important, leading public figure in WNY. The matter of her health will therefore be a topic of keen public interest.

Oh for sure. I know an Irish MacGuinness, whose name is nonetheless pronounced mehk-Guinness. And I know at least two Scotch-Irish-American McElroy clans -- one of them are the mehk-Elroys, and the other are the MACK-Elroys. Lol.

There's limited rhyme or reason, as is often the case with matters Celt. One rule of thumb was that if you have a vowel following the M' (as the prefix used to be expressed - no Mc or Mac to it), then you used a Mack sound. But McNamara, as an Irish-American name, became an exception to that rule. (The McNamaras that I know from Ireland are "Mehk-Namaras.") The only 100% reliable guidance is how a particular family pronounces their name.

because that's the way he and his family pronounced their last name.

Fair, fair. Like I said, I was hung up on the idea that their legacies were similar because they never put it all together (won a Cup), and how that’s every Sabre. Then there was how differently they came to their success. But I get your thesis now much more clearly — and @dudacekmakes a compelling case for how similar they are from a … 15,000 (??) foot view. -

Every Sabre great has had a similar legacy, if a key metric is failing to win a SC championship. I can’t see the 2 players as similar because of the way in which I see them putting their careers together. Relative to his peers, Perreault was a bit of a freak — so physically superior. He was the FOA pick for good reason. He probably didn’t think the game as much as he could have as a result. But man he galloped and walloped through the league for a long time. 500 goals! Also, he came from an era where what it meant to be a pro athlete was still evolving. Miller, otoh, was a physically sub average physical specimen relative to his peers. Scrawny. Late round flyer. Through hyper intense focus and training, the guy became an elite player (for a stretch of time) and carved out a great career. More is illuminated by their differences than their similarities.
