Yes, I want to see us make the playoffs but we better have the forethought that one year in the playoffs and then out because lose guys in UFAs is poor management.

I can't see that happening if Byram still on the roster. To me pairings should be Byram and Dahlin, Power and Kesselring, Samuelsson and Timmins

I just don't want to see KA sit on keeping Byram around if it makes sense to move him, as just have a feeling he would leave us in UFA.

We can hope he has another great season in 2025-26 and maybe move him in season or after for more talent in goal or in the forward ranks as needed. I'll give the team credit to getting him to a fair contract but all things considered think this was the second best scenario of how this played out.

Or making room for Byram? They also have 2Cs making over $8m a season in Hintz and Johnston. Maybe they flip one for Byram? Not sure as they have a lot in the top 6 F talent but not much on top 4 D talent.

As a fan I would continue to root for the long term good than a one playoff year and then done.

Alex Tuch is due to be an UFA after this season, am sure many fans want to see him re-signed so we should be looking at our cap closely. Giving guys like Samuelsson and Power deals they don't deserve have hampered this team. Cozens too but thankfully got rid of him although not sure Norris a better alternative given his health concerns.

But paying your top 3 LHD $11m, $9m and $8.5m is overkill if need to re-sign Tuch and Kisserling next year. If we can get a top 6 F making $8-$10m for Byram look for a lower cost Dman to pair with Dahlin or put Samuelsson at the top and sign a cheap bottom pairing Dman. I mean Matt Grzelcyk is still out there who is coming off a career year but he shouldn't cost more than $3.5m and might be able to squeeze under the cap if added him.

I think Dahlin Power would weaken the second pair too much. Dahlin makes almost everyone better. So if get a F for Byram, and still have cap room we can look for a low cost vet Dman. It doesn't matter what handed since Dahlin can play either.

Same thing with a guy like Quinn as not sure why we made him a priority signing this offseason. He should have been the last one we'd have to re-sign or IF somebody did give him offer sheet I'd let him walk pending level of compensation.

There's talk they could put Torey Krug on LTIR which would free up $6.5m of their cap. Yet if rumors of Byram wanting $9.0m then they'd still have to make another move to get under the cap.
