  1. I hope they take it slow with Quinn.  Achilles recovery is no joke, there's countless tales of athletes coming back too soon because they feel great... only to re-injure themselves resulting in a career threatening issue.

He has youth on his side, but I hope they keep him out of competition until Feb/Mar at the earliest...  it just takes time.

  2. They're trying to play a more defensively responsible game..... it backfires in the first 10-min, then they say ***** it and go back to high risk fire wagon hockey.

The up tempo north/south style is entertaining, but it's not sustainable for an entire season.... it's too demanding physically to maintain over 82 games.

The NHL season is a marathon, not a series of 40 yard sprints.

Granata is failing miserably at integrating a defensively responsible system which doesn't suffocate their goal scorers.

  3. This game feels like a crossroads for this team.   Another loss and suddenly they've got a serious losing streak pending with a roadie to Boston on Thur.

That said, you would think they're desperate for a win, but I've thought that before and they come out flatter than a flapjack.

It's a great opportunity for the young core to step up and demand more from their teammates.... ruffle a few feathers if you will...  let it be known there will be repercussions if anyone mails it in.

The atmosphere in the locker room should be serious and focused, not aloof with guys joking around and talking about whatever.... the "game" starts well before puck drop.

  4. No outside player or package of players is going to fix this team's ailments.

There's already a core group in the locker room.

Nothing will change until the core decides to enforce a standard of play and hold everyone accountable.

That simply hasn't happened yet, and in my experience as a player, I don't think it will change until guys like KO and Zemgus are gone.

Granato's a nice guy. I think everybody likes him and he knows a lot about hockey and he's a valuable guy on a coaching staff. I can see him talking softly with younger players, teaching them skills, playing the "good cop" role. problem is we don't have a "bad cop". We don't have the motivator. Nobody has set an adequate standard and demanded we strive for it and then meet it as a minimum after.

Somebody needs to set that standard and whip these guys into shape. Then you can have a guy like Granato take them aside after they get yelled at and help build them back up. Granato's idea that these guys have to collectively learn to elevate their game and face adversity just doesn't work.

You have to set the standard first. Anyone who doesn't devote themselves to trying their best to achieve it can exit through the one way out door.

I agree.   Granato is a great individual developmental coach.... he's 56, that's what he is and always will be... there's a place for him in the game and he's excellent at what he does.

That said, this team is lacking accountability for structured team play.

Eric Johnson hinted at this earlier in the season when he mentioned that they won't accomplish much until they ALL commit to play within a certain structure.

Until that standard is set and enforced this team will just continue to drift aimlessly like a rudderless ship.

  6. It's a lot easier to stomach once you come to the realization that for this franchise winning isn't as important as relationships.

The guys on the team all get along really well, they're all getting paid now and Granato doesn't hold them accountable for poor performances.   They're on easy street.   So why would they want to change anything?

It's OK to lose as long as everyone is enjoying each other's company.

That mentality has trickled down the organization.   The only way that changes is if somebody decides it's not OK to lose... and that starts by holding folks accountable, not just players or coaches.

Your not Devon Levi is in Rochester because of a few Sabres fans that want to develop and miss the playoffs forever for some fantasy that the Sabres will get all 1st round picks and win a Stanley Cup by tanking for decades. The Buffalo News which is a trash newspaper printed in Cleveland the Sabres beat writer also played a role pressuring the Buffalo Sabres management to send Devon Levi with his constant send Devon Levi crap.  Because these groups have honestly talked themselves into after a few games UPL is a different goaltender from three years ago. The only thing different about UPL is the year. Same old UPL caving under pressure 6 goals on 14 shots that is the Sabres number one goalie. The Sabres organization is trash and it wouldn’t surprise if Devon Levi ends up with the Montreal Canadians at some point because of the craziness of some of our Sabres fans, Buffalo News media and the messed up Sabres organization. Kevyn Adams should be fired for the Devon Levi move alone that is why he will be fired because he listens to public opinion over his own two eyes he caved to public opinion. Fire Don Granato who is a minor league coach and Kevyn Adams who doesn’t have what it takes to be a General Manager in the NHL. I seen enough of those two incompetent people. Sell the Sabres Terry Pegula or make the proper investment in player development, coaches and a real general manager not one learning on the job like Kevyn Adams in my opinion. Go Sabres! Let’s Go Buffalo

Well, at least it didn’t bother you.
