To your other point, about veterans, SY got a group of UFA’s right about the same age - 26-30. His free agent pick ups were not like EJ who is 36 in a few days. The Red wings did trade for an elder statesman (Jeff Petry) who’s father played for Tigers and was born and grew up in the area. But SY got Montreal to retain 50% so Jeff’s AAV is not equal to Johnson. Petry seems to be handling the day to day load better as well with far more ATOI, games played, points and is an overall plus player for the year.
That plan only works if players want to be there and the team is not operating with a restrictive internal cap.

There were a few bad calls but the call he blew up on was the correct call... and his tantrum cost them at least a point.
His unwillingness to apologize in the media seemed odd. Not very professional.

Games like this provide a glimpse into what they would look like with a head coach who could get them to show up consistently.
They looked focused and motivated. Where has this been all season?
We see it now simply because their backs are against the wall, but it's too little too late.... again. Points in October and November are just as important.

Disagree. What did UPL do to deserve the #1 spot early in the season? KA gave each guy a chance to claim the job, none did until UPL halfway through the season.

This is it.
This is the turning point for this much maligned franchise.
A victory today and a 3 game winning streak turns into 10, carrying this momentum into a playoff birth for the first time in 12 years.
On the shoulders of a hot UPL they win their first league championship in franchise history, capturing 5 of the next 10 Stanley Cups as their seemingly bottomless pipeline of young talent matures year after year evolving into one if the greatest dynastys the game has ever seen.
Or not.

They've also played the second fewest games, but yeah UPL is running hot which is nice to see.
They're also 5th in goals for %.
Should be better than 10 wins 8 loses over that stretch.
