  1. The book is still out on whether Housley is a competent coach, but I don't think there is a coach in the game who could win with this roster. I really believe we're so devoid of talent that it isn't possible to evaluate whether Housley's system can/will work.
  2. I'd much rather watch college football than another Sabres loss.
  3. ...Jesus created DVR for a reason! :D I'll be watching Virginia Tech - Virginia this evening, but will DVR the Sabres game (although I won't bother watching it if the Sabres get crushed again)
  4. If he is moved at the trade deadline, it is because a team is trying to add scoring punch for a Cup run. Those teams almost never send useful roster players back in return. And, GMs have not been giving up 1st round picks for rentals the past few seasons. I think a deadline deal at best gets us a 2nd plus prospect(s). IMHO, we have to sign him to get anything useful back in trade.
  5. Oh, man, you're making me thirsty! Happy Thanksgiving SabreSpacers. This year I give thanks for... cheese... it's just a tasty food. And, very good melted. :D
  6. I've had Preds season tickets for the past 8 seasons. Front row club level, blue line on the side where the Preds shoot twice (210, D, 7&8). I moved to New Orleans this summer, but my friend took over my seats. Will be there next week for a game. Awesome atmosphere in the arena. They do just about everything right to make it fun for the fans (the good team certainly helps, of course).
  7. I agree with this completely, but the marketing angle is you can't finish bottom-5 year after year and not alienate your paying customers. The team definitely needs to draft better... but finding a few players who can get the team a few more wins in the short-term sells hope to the average fan.
  8. Agree completely  Our lineup is really, really bad. Folks are concerned about injuries - rightfully so. But, many of the injured players aren't difference makers. And, as much as we miss Risto (our only defensemen who seems to create offense), he is suspect in his own zone. Always has been. We're just devoid of talent all over the roster. I really don't think there is much Housley (or Bylsma) can do with this collection of garbage. The Preds are my other favorite team and I'm hard pressed to find more than a handful of current Sabres who would even crack the lineup for the Preds. Seriously. The talent differential is that big.
  9. The best teams (e.g., Nashville where I had season tickets for the past 8 years) hit on some mid-round picks. The Sabres never do. IMHO, that is a killer. Especially, given Buffalo, NY is hardly a desirable location for free agents. BTW - As I recall, there were no more than 5-or-10 of us on this board who were anti-tank back in the day.
  10. It's convenient to blame the past GM, certainly most of the players are hold-overs, but has Botterill acquired anyone who has helped or looks like they will help this team? Maybe Antipin... maybe. Possibly Scandella for a couple of years? ...from what I'm seeing, the team is noticeably worse this year and it looks to me like the guys we removed from the roster (Gionta, Foligno, Ennis, etc.) brought more than the guys we added. Botterill added salary by acquiring Pommer and Scandela (combined almost $10 million). All other acquisitions are basically terrible players. Not a one of them has helped this team thus far. We have one guy who scores goals (Kane) and he'll be gone soon. Then what? Again, I just don't see the fans wanting to sit around for another "tear down" and take years to rebuild type of situation. Murray didn't draft worth a crap and squandered assets... but he also acquired the few decent forwards we have on this roster. Botterill needs to figure out a way to get some difference makers either by winning a trade or two or via free agency in the summer... I honestly don't think he will keep his job long enough to see it through if his goal is to try to rebuild via the draft. I think the fans are too restless for that give our history over the past several years.
  11. It's his job to sign guys who make the team better, not just a bunch of "depth players" who are all basically just bodies skating around and earning a paycheck. Scandella is a cast off from the Wild - he wasn't going to be in their top-4, yet he is our big acquisition. The Habs couldn't wait to get rid of Beaulieu. Pouliot has played for half the teams in the league for a reason. Nolan was a waiver wire pickup. Antipin is a marginal KHL prospect (I do like his progression thus far). Zach Redmond for Deslauriers? Josefson? Griffith? ...what has he done to make the team better? I get that the awful pipeline in the organization isn't his fault and a couple of bad contracts (e.g., MattyMo) aren't his fault. But, jobs are on the line and GMs don't have unlimited timelines these days. I'm not sure he can afford to go with a "5 year plan" given this team has been terrible for years now and the fans aren't buying the "we need to be bad before getting good" story any more.
  12. Whenever we hire a new GM everyone automatically assumes he will be better than the last GM. At this point I see no evidence that Jason Botterill is an upgrade over Murray. Just about every guy he signed is terrible thus far. We shall see....
  13. We all know this game ends with an empty netter against. :(
  14. Not exactly a goaltending clinic, this game. ;)
  15. Yeah, I'll take anyone who has scored a few goals in this league over our collection of 4 goal per year forwards. Our bottom-6 is horrible.
  16. Why do we even have Josefson? He's the opposite of good.
  17. Havin' some trouble with your PP? ;)
  18. The problem with this team, as I see it, is our goaltending isn't good... and our defensemen aren't good... and our forwards are bad... otherwise, I think we're okay.
  19. Oof. A weak goal scored and a weak goal given up.
  20. Happy Thanksgiving! ... I'd like to say something positive about the team. ...I think Antipin is getting marginally better.
  21. I'd rather see McCabe and Falk switched on the defensive pairings... and our bottom two lines look hopeless.
