LOL true story I came back from Florida to Blo 3 weeks ago, it was actually hotter there... but lets face it... summers there are nice
-
I agree (especially Bowen), I think even further to that the bread and butter if we are to improve will come internally a new system could result in a slower start followed by marked improvement. I like we have more size, I hope we take away space much better, maintain puck control in smaller space and absolutely need to win more faceoffs I would rather be chased than chase.
-
I think Adams had the right focus... remains to be seen if he got the right people... so I would say we are balanced better if the signings which I see really as 2nd 3rd tier pan out to be mostly 2nd tier maybe one pushes first tier with production. If they prove to be a Corey Stillman or ErikJohnson even Clifton like signing/trade then we still may be better with the Ruff factor... so all in all I say I like this team better than last year. Did they do enough to make the playoffs... someone give me a quarter, we can go best 2 out of 3 flips.

We have cap room and a spot -- to get Tkachuk, what would you now give up?

I actually think in division price is higher... you are losing 1 of Quinn, JJ or Cozens and Power... -
I agree here... if they become truly harder to play against... they can control the puck down low, take space away in the defensive zone and create neutral zone turnovers . Just in puck possession alone I think the offense improves... the other thing they need to do to supplement this is become WAAAAY better on faces offs and gain initial control of the puck so they are not chasing 60% of the time...

Oh I remember this... back to back shut outs of the Habs in Montreal... epic.

Is Adams rebuild the Regier rebuild, just starting about 9 years later?
JP51 replied to Taro T's topic in The Aud Club
That is my biggest fear... I am giving Terry too much credit cause if I am ... its worse than I thought... (although I thought utterly clueless was a pretty good indication of what I thought LOL ) -
100% this is one of the major reasons players will not come here or want to deal with Adams... Adams/Organization failed... miserably to me there was only one option... Come out and say. GMKA: Jack can have what ever surgery he and the doctors feel is best for him. It is his body... and we will support him 100% in his decision... Reporter: Kevyn, this is not an accepted NHL surgery, it has rarely been done before... how can you allow this to take place with your Cornerstone player and Captain?? GMKA: You are talking business... I am talking life... you are talking what you think may be best for a hockey team.. I am talking about putting a young man and his right to make a decision with which medical treatment he believes is best for him. Its a risk for all... But Jack is risking his career with this surgery... who am I to stand in the way of that and tell him what he can and cannot do... Does he risk less the we do? Reporter: No more questions.... His or this organizations inability to see this is inexcusable, wrong and they are paying for it.

I wouldnt put me at 90% on Pegula not firing Adams... I personally think he is a dead GM walking if they dont make the playoffs again... the pitchforks are already out. But TP has proven to be utterly clueless so you my be right... I think the answer to the conundrum of the Sabres brand valued somewhere between a junk bond and and the currency of Liberia is like you said, one of our or several of our own players taking a leap and leading us out OR our next GM hire will need to be a proven Pro who has taken his team to the Cup or close. Those will be the only things I see that restores any level of confidence in a person who is being asked to invest a portion of their career in the dysfunctional abyss that has become this team. Because currently the only reason they come here is that they are older looking to still play and hope they are traded to a contender before the trade deadline because they dont fit with our plans. -
I would pony up to help too.

LOL... Welcome to prospect camp campers!!! This is where your journey of learning how to lose and still be happy begins!!! 😅

Rumor: There has been word that teams don’t want to deal with Buffalo
JP51 replied to Buffalonill's topic in The Aud Club
Exactly where I am at... someone with credibility that may have a player or two that is willing to follow them. Right now who wants to walk into a "we promise we can fix it" ... when after 13 years they havent. -
So I dont disagree here... but I would add... 1. Coaching - check 2 Lack of physicality - hopefully improved we will see 3. Jeff Skinner - check But I think there was a 4th complaint that may have been the biggest - you didnt add veteran leadership at a top 6 level to help your team. Definitely not checked this year either...

If we are better and make the playoffs it will be in my opinion because of Ruff. I think we tried to address the need for grit I am not sure how that will translate as I see them now as B sides... Hope I am wrong. In the end our hope is existing player development and Ruff being a better coach than Granato. We may make the playoffs we may not. I see this team as being a long way from a run in the post season of any kind.

I dont think he trolled em, but he sure spun em pretty hard.... I just wanna know if he really believes that we believe that cr@p or if he knows we dont and he is just providing a sound bite to get out of the question...

100% agree.... I think we are whistling by the graveyard with some of these prospects... finding it hard with each passing year they cant make it into the lineup and contribute more than a Krebs or Zemgus etc.... maybe they arent ready and will be soon... but who knows I havent really seen them in NHL competition nor have they forced their way into the lineup. I understand not rushing them... but I would have hoped 1 of them would have pulled a Benson and forced his way in. The lack of drafting players who can play in small space and take away space is startling... unacceptable and shows a complete lack of understanding for the game today. Small skilled speed players are wonderful, but on a smaller NHL surface than in Europe, their must be a mix. The only thing I can figure is that he doesnt believe he can get skill to sign here but he can get grit. I think he is finding out that everyone else is valuing this type of two way player and ends up with the B side. I dont think he is long for this GM job. I believe the brand has been so devalued that no one reasonable wants to be the first to jump in and lead us out of the abyss... so... more suffering for us... Lets hope Lindy can give us some level of spark and compete and we can eek into the playoffs even if it is a 4-1 First round loss... fingers crossed. -
I actually agree with everything you said except the location of the city as a reason.... like a kid from Moose Jaw or Norway is afraid of February... they said the same thing about the Bills... but the location isnt the issue. It is the abject long term unrelenting incompetency that this organization has become the standard bearer for. Adams blew his chance to restore credibility. Players dont want to go to a train wreck... and for that I 100% agree with you... Nothing changes until Adams is fired and a GM with a reputation comes in as well as some glimmer of legitimate hope. Until then who wants to attach their career and livelihood to a team that is that abjectly dysfuntional and metaphorically has "Just Lose Baby" over the locker room wall during the multiple tank years. Then never improves. Aging players with names will come we will over pay them and their hope is we trade them at the deadline to a contender.... thats about it. Then again Kane doesnt even see to be interested.

I hate we traded him
-
I agree with this... I think our prospects currently not with us are highly over rated.... I also think teams are putting a premium on players that can operate in small space and take away space. I wish Adams would have put a premium on talent mix as opposed to the focus he seems to have had. I also agree that trading those that currently have made the team (like a Middlestadt even) will bring better returns, but how much do we improve with that. Although Owen is really starting to remind me of another Tyler Myers.... and we need more out of him than a Tyler Myers player.
-
I think it is less about who we drafted and more about what we did do with our draft capital and current roster capital to improve this team. On paper after the draft we are at best a wash and more than likely reasonably worse/ and or have lost ground with those we are competing with. I would say this draft week was a failure overall with regards to immediate improvement on the team essentially (Malestyn plus/Skinner Minus). We shall see what free agency brings, but I expect there is just going to be more of the same old same old we have seen for over a decade... hope I am wrong.

JP51 replied to Buffalonill's topic in The Aud Club
100% agree just didn't want to blame it all on him as this took a while to fall this far. He hasn't sold players on his vision nor has he built a pipeline of prospects that look like they are the mix needed to win. Way overloaded with finesse players and lacking those who will bring physicality and space management. His management of Eichel I also feel had turned players off to this management. I can think of no other team in the league where the overall reputation is worse. I don't think it changes until a respected Gm with vision and a plan is brought in. Who that is and who would want to come here to do this I don't know. -

I agree where he falls down is, and he bears a good portion of the blame but not all... the abject failure and incompetence of an entire organization over a vast period of time. Getting a top 6 vet or Top 2 D pair vet to want to walk into the abyss that is the Sabres is simply near impossible. Imo KA is a dead GM walking unless existing prospects vault us into a playoff run. And no making the playoffs and losing 4 - 1 in a rout isn't gonna do it. So to me he will fail to land the players we need to improve the team to legitimate status this year and will be gone. Just my take
