  1. Unfortunately, I think this organization is hellbent on Appert getting the job once Lindy gets kicked upstairs (my assumed endgame). I don't think they're ambitious enough to swing big. This late season bump in performance all but guarantees "the process" continues, IMO.
  2. So is Norris just done for the year, then? Great trade, Kev! In fairness, JBD looks like he could be a serviceable Dman and the team is playing better without Cozens, but he couldn't have snagged a better return than a guy who can't even stay on the ice after 3 games and a possibly serviceable Dman?
  3. I think we may have something with the JJP/McLeod/Quinn line. Keep them together, don't split them up the moment they hit a rough patch. There's chemistry there and they're playing really well together. Ride it, long term. Quinn has shown this potential before, then had a season disrupted by injury. Achilles injuries can take significant recovery time. Maybe/hopefully Quinn's struggles prior to getting hot recently were a function of that and he's worked past it. Stability w/JJP and MacLeod has probably helped, too.
  4. My default answer - because this is not a serious hockey organization.
  5. Chances Ovi passes 99 today? The Sabres love being on the wrong end of milestones.
  6. This. He's done this year. He's in a rut and he isn't getting out of it. I'd shut him down, all continuing to play him is going to do is him continuing to take body shots to his confidence. Goalies are a strange breed. They can be unplayable one year, then fantastic the next. He was excellent last season. He's still young. Get him a good coach and put a semi-competent team in front of him and he should be fine. Now, do I think he'll ever be the type of goalie you can ride for 55-60 games? Not really; but he should be just fine in a tandem.
  7. One issue I had with him 2 seasons ago was his lateral quickness was really bad. It seemed to improve by leaps and bounds last year, but he looks glacially slow at times this year. Seems like a mental/confidence thing to me. Last year he was confident in his movement and recovered quickly when he needed to adjust or recover; this season he seems to be really hesitant and it's making him sloooooow.
  8. I love that Little Ball of Mischief. If 2/3 of this team played with his heart and energy, we'd be...a helluva lot better.
  9. I'd disagree. I think he is a crucial piece. He's trending towards being a ppg winger. Will he ever be a Selke guy or a truly elite player? I don't think so; but ppg guys (especially homegrown ones) are what winning teams need.
  10. LOL, glad I missed this one. Apparently we still suck, I'm flabbergasted. Also, I'd probably shut UPL down for the rest of the way. You're just doing psychological damage at this point. I didn't watch, and I'm sure it's not all his fault that he has a bad team in front of him, but he's not good. Hasn't been for months. On the plus side, only 10 games left in this miserable season. I still fully expect the status quo to continue, but there's still this tiny gleam that's holding out hope that we get some significant change.
  11. He will hang on to UPL and Levi until the bitter end. I'm not writing either off, by any means. Both have shown enough flashes of ability to see there *might* be something there. But goalies are funny, man. And tying entire seasons to young/unproven goalies is not something you can do if you're serious about getting to the playoffs. It's a total dice roll. And if they go into next season with an expected Levi/UPL tandem, then they are not serious about it again. I'm sure they'll keep Reimer on again as the latest version of the greybeard plan B like Anderson, and (not really greybeard) Comrie. If Levi & UPL pull it together, they may have a chance. If it's another year of spotty results and having to fall back on the aged guy to stop a spiral, it'll be yet another wasted year. They could start by getting them a decent goalie coach. That might help. This has been the fatal flaw in Adams's plan. Too much is being banked on the production of young guys.
