Love to know who the person with NHL approval was

Right now the Sabres, Devils and Sens are looking for a head coach. That number will increase. If the Leafs lose first round there is no way Keefe can be kept on. A couple more teams will probably look for a shakeup if their are surprising first round losses.

Remember when I hypothesized about a local billionaire who likes the Sabres? Who knew??
$1.2 billion would probably be the cost of the sale.

Do it, Terry. No balls.
I have no idea who this guy is or who his multiple sources are. You would think there would be way more smoke around this if it were potentially happening though.
Hiring that guy recently to oversee both the Bills and Sabres on the business side flies in the face of this though.

Man they all threw Donny under the bus.
Im sure whoever the coach is they will run hard, organized practices.

Has anyone seen this? Is there been any pushback on it? I know they are getting out of running the Blue Cross Arena. There was a rumor a month a go that Terry was considering selling the Sabres to the Wegman’s family. Weird times.

I am REALLY interested to see what happens when the new coach is announced. Is it someone Adams expects to just coach the lineup he gives him or does the coach help shape the lineup and we see trades and signings that reflect the coach’s vision.

The fans in Pittsburgh are done with Sullivan. In the past 6 years they have lost in the first round 3 times, lost in the qualifying round once and missed the playoffs the past two seasons.
And this year their PP with the likes of Crosby, Malkin, Guentzel, Karlsson, Letang was as bad as Buffalo’s.

If Östlund is healthy and can play the Amerks have a heck of in interesting team to watch for a playoff run.
Levi, Johnson, Novikov, Kulich, Rosen, Neuchev, Wahlberg, Östlund and you could add Kisakov, Metsa and Kozak as prospects to keep an eye on.

You know who came in and is having an impact? Wahlberg.
I think Wahlberg is rocketing up their prospect board. One year in Rochester and I think he will have a chance to crack the lineup with his size and skill combo. He already knows how to use his size to assert himself. He has a combination of size/skill that others in the pipeline don’t possess.

The more I listen to players reacting to a coach being fired, the more it sounds the same (i.e. theme of accountability, etc.). This one was kind of interesting when Berube was fired....I don't put too much emphasis on this (one way or another).
I take it as a positive. Kyrou isn’t a big fan of playing the defensive side of the game. Means Berube kept him accountable and was on him. The Sabres don’t need a coach they love right now they need one that pushes them to play better hockey consistently.

The biggest thing here for me is Berube has a much different style 'he'd want major roster changes to fit that style. From player to coach everything about him is hard nosed D first and physical play. This is just so not what we are or have. Hence I see this one as unlikely.
Brind'Amour is the dream but he would fit. We can be Carolina under him. Ruff would fit for a variety of reasons and the history (which is good for ticket sales and marketing) Gallant idk. Harder fit but definitely a good coach. Some changes would be needed there.
Adams being forced to make some roster changes would be a good thing.
This team has a lot of young assets but no identity. They need to bring in some pieces that carve out an identity. Bernie would force him to that and that would be a good thing. I got the feeling from the PC that Adams is ready to do it.

I really don’t think Lindy was ever a great coach. I understand he won a Jack Adams, but at no point in time, in my memory at least, was he considered a top-5 coach in any respect. I also don’t think he ever elevated a roster. He’s arguably coming in to equalish talent to his last playoff team here. I don’t think he was good enough in those years, and I don’t think he will be now.
I get it. We all love Lindy. But can we not admit that his win total comes from the fact he coached an organization that was under incredible turmoil and then a penny pincher. He was here because nobody wanted more. It’s long been a problem with the organization.
I know I’ll take a lot of heat for this but this board incredible overrates Ruff.
I don’t even know where to begin. He took rosters that should have been nowhere near contenders and went to ECFs and a Stanley Cup Final.
He could adapt to the roster he had. He was a tremendous coach.
I don’t think he is the answer now

What is Mike’s obsession with Pegula talking? How many owners from other organizations hold press conferences?
The only one I can think of is Mr Ego Jerry Jones.

The failure to promote Peca internally is one of the biggest “little” failures of this organization recently.
For what it’s worth, Gallant was my choice for coach when DG was hired as the full-time HC. He is still my choice today. I’m not against Lindy and I don’t see Rod “the Bod” Brind-mi-amor as available.
Gallant and Peca behind the bench would be my dream scenario. Gallant gets his run and then the reigns get passed to Peca eventually once Gallant leaves.
The Peca situation is a head scratcher. You mean you really needed Ellis on the bench that badly? Christie was a Granato guy but Ellis should have been shuffled elsewhere.

Why does everyone point to Brunette as the main reason for the rise and fall of the Devils?
Didn’t exchanging 3 veteran defencemen (Hamilton, Graves, Severson) for 3 rookies (Hughes, Nemec Bahl) in their starting 6 play a huge role?
I mean, those are talented kids but we know 1st-hand about having too many young D. The vets were +66, the kids -31.
As I said if you don’t like a candidate you can knock them down.
I mean Brunette went to Nashville and fell on his face to the point the GM stepped in and took away their trip and galvanized them and they went on a big run to get them into the playoffs. They sputtered down the stretch so we will see how the playoff go for Nashville.
I like Brunette but he was not the sole reason for NJ’s success. This year NJ had major injuries Hamilton) and god awful goaltending. They didn’t improve when Green took over.
Do I think it should be Lindy, no. Do I think it will be Lindy, probably. If it is him then they need really good assistants. Would love Jeep to join him and get a really good offensive mind as the other assistant.

There is no perfect candidate. Any name brought up can easily be torn down by someone who doesn’t care for them.
Gallant: doesn’t play a structured system. Rangers players asked for a change to a more structured coach. Known as a players coach
Berube: only win a Cup because Bennington stood on his head.
Boudreau: not a hard ass, flames out in the playoffs
Woodcroft: couldn’t get his team to buy in defensively, Knoblouch took over and did
McLellan: has flamed out numerous places. Turned down an opportunity here
Quenneville: not allowed to coach by the league for. obvious reasons
Lindy: NJ was only good because of another coach
Babcock: Yikes
etc etc
going just by Adams words you would think Lindy and Berube would be the coaches of interest.
another name of interest to me is Guy Boucher who has done a great job on the bench with the Leafs, especially the PP.
Everyone today would take Rick Tocchet in a heartbeat. But look at his coaching record before this season. Only made the playoffs once and was ousted in the first round.

He’s a hard nosed coached that demands accountability. He has a good record overall and lead the Blues to a Cup.
Here is an interview with him after the Blues missed the playoffs for the first time under him. His answers line up with what Adams talked about and wants:
