3 things need to happen:
1) Ruff gives us some insight into filling out his staff
2) Adams gives us some insight into his offseason plan to build this roster to make the playoffs next season
3) Harrington asks a stupid obnoxious question and Lindy lights him up.

I think him and UPL share the net next season which I’m fine with.
His goal should be to fill out the roster with NHL players that can help now. If a Kulich or Rosen or Savoie or Novikov completely blow the doors off and knock someone out of a spot then great but none of them should be pencilled in or expected to take a spot.

Lindy is HC. Fill out the staff.
I think James Patrick has to be a favourite. Was his assistant in Buffalo and Dallas. Then left to take over the bench in Kootenay and moved with the franchise to Winnipeg. Didn’t want to move to Wenatchee with the franchise. Coached Krebs, Savoie and Benson and had great success in Winnipeg. Would be a great mentor to Dahlin, Power, Byram etc
Chris Taylor is another interesting name. Was Lindy’s assistant in NJ. What might be dicey is that he was Rochester’s HC and was replaced with Seth Appert.
Seth Appert might be the heir apparent especially if they have another long playoff run. I can see him being groomed under Lindy for a few years.
A couple others that some won’t like to hear are Peca and McKee.
I think Mike Bales is retained as goalie coach. UPL has come on strong and Levi is on the cusp.
If the Leafs lose and clean house Guy Boucher is a great PP coach. Former Sabres coach Bob Woods runs a good PP as well.

I think Adams will make one maybe two significant moves to shakeup the lineup and a couple vet signings. He can’t be banking this season on adding more kids. I wouldn’t be surprised if the 1st pick and/or a prospect or two are moved out for a significant piece that can help win now.
I can’t see Ruff agreeing to come back with the idea of just promoting a couple more kids.

Lindy has now been employed by the Sabres in every decade of their existence. 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s, 2020s
His rookie season was 79-80.

Loved how Jay played defense for the Sabres as well. This club could certainly use Jay as an assistant and get the D to take some bodies a dish out some hits.
James Patrick is my first choice but McKee has done a good job in the OHL.

I don’t care if he comes back or not but he shouldn’t have been allowed to leave last year because they couldn’t make room for him on a bench with Matt Ellis and Jason Christie.
Get me two seasoned NHL level assistants and I will be happy.

He can if it is a promotion. He couldn’t leave to be assistant coach in Buffalo but he could to be Associate Head Coach.

You are right but I think Kevyn just wanted him and better to make it official then do a sham coaching search with multiple interviews if Lindy was going to be the guy anyways.

You don’t know that. Maybe Kevyn spoke to both. I mean there is a reason Gallant gets shitcanned so quickly in every stop. Leaving the guy on the side of the road isn’t a positive sign.😄
Im open minded to Lindy. He had NJ going last year with bad goaltending. This year they lost Hamilton early and had horrible goaltending. They didn’t improve at all when Green took over.
Again the rest of his staff is key to me.

The bottom line is Adams ass is on the line and he wanted someone he could trust and knows he can work with. Lindy brings the positive PR, the accountability piece and he lives here and wants to be here. He also hasn’t been out of the game for an extended period. He was also the easiest sell to Terry.
Two things will make or break this: the quality of his staff and if he has some say in building this roster. I want him to have input in bringing in a few guys to round out this team. Hopefully he tells Adams to shove his “can’t block the kids” plan up his a$$.
I fully expect he grooms the next coach as part of his staff and then moves into management in a few years.

Lindy Ruff officially hired as Sabres HC

People say “how many times did he make the playoffs in Dallas and NJ?” But what was the state of Dallas when he took over and the state of the devils when he took over?” He built both lowly clubs up to get into the playoffs.
You could take prime Scotty Bowman and put him behind the bench of the SJ Sharks the past two years and say “ Well he missed the playoffs the past two years.”
This roster is ready to compete (and Adams better improve it this summer) so it is a different situation Lindy is walking into.
