  1. He's been plagued with injuries that has set him back. I'm expecting him to raise his game. I also expect Kulich to elevate his game. Especially for young players, you make a judgment on what their upside is and where are they are in their development process. I consider his contract within the reasonable range. And I expect him to show that uptick in play this season. TBD.
  2. I don't consider the Quinn contract an overpay. And even if you do, so what? It doesn't stop you from making any other moves that you want to do. The problem with this lagging franchise is not stressing out the cap as it is being willing to use what is available. The Pegula penny-pinching approach has crushed this franchise into irrelevance. It's a stupid and self-defeating way of doing business.
  3. Without Byram you are losing a good defender from an offensive standpoint. The Sabres are not a complete team with Byrum or without. The issue then becomes what positions need shoring up more than others. Is it better to subtract a good defenseman for a top six winger? I would say yes. What I don't want to see happen is that Byram gets traded for a less than credible top two-line player. As far as who would be our sixth defenseman, it could be another functional player from the market or maybe bringing Docker back or moving up Johnson from the AHL. It's a juggling act within your roster limitations.
  4. I wonder if he’s a good whistler?
  5. This is a good deal from a talent, contract $$$ and term. He’s a good 3C who can move up the ranks when needed. He’s a solid two-way player who also PKs. This is far from being a big deal but it is a good deal that is both a positive factor on the ice and in the room.
  6. If the Sabres are not going to retrieve a top 6 forward from a Bryan trade, then just keep him. With him, our blue line would be a quality unit with an offensive bent. The hope will be that players such as Quinn, Kulich and Benson improve to compensate for the loss of Peterka. This franchise created a toxic reputation that has foreclosed a lot of player options. So if you can’t get a fair value back in a deal, then accept that ugly reality and work with what you got and do your best to maximize it.
  7. Adding size. Ruff influence.
  8. Under the circumstances you describe it might make more sense to keep Byram and deal for Rust. Will we eventually lose Byram? Yes. So be it. Play for something this year and then deal with the future. Rust would be a good addition on the ice and in the room.
  9. However, the player has a choice. And he is not choosing to go to the ghetto.
  10. Stop joking! My first instinct is to believe negative news about this raggedy franchise. And my second instinct is to not believe positive news about this raggedy franchise. If you continue with this foolery, you will have a big ugly and hairy Italian visit you carrying a bat to your place of residence. When you ask him what do you want he will proceed to hit a homerun off of our left kneecap. Capiche!!!!! 😁
  11. Passing on a deal that no other sober GM would have even considered is thought to be good decision-making with this franchise by some. It’s apparent that the quality standard has been lowered. What I will be watching to see is what the return on Bryan will be if traded.
  12. So far in this offseason the Sabres have cut payroll. We shall soon see if that cut payroll is applied to adding talent. If not, the Pegula business model will continue to strangle this fading franchise. What does this owner have to say? Nothing.
  13. Good decisions on small issues add up. As you well know, the Sabres don’t have much margin of error. For me, I’m not inclined to give this battered franchise the benefit of the doubt. This player is a solid lower pairing player who played well last year.
  14. I didn’t grab the tampering issue out of the blue. It was mentioned by the former French and loquacious Sabre goalie, Marty B, on his WGR hockey show.
  15. It’s a challenge to give this rickety organization the benefit of the doubt on anything.
  16. As you previously stated, Docker played well for us. He more than earned what should be his qualifying offer. If he is being offered less, it is a tribute to this organization’s smallness. There is a saying that shameless people /organizations can’t be shamed The contempt I have for the owner and what he has done to this franchise can not be stated because it is profusely profane.
  17. The Sabres have a reputation for being bad. Now it has gotten to the point they will earn a reputation for being weird. Maybe the have a deal worked out????
  18. My understanding is that this trade was a cosmetic transaction to avoid tampering charges.
  19. The Pegula tool box is small and tightly held. Creativity and imagination are not stored in this tool box,
  20. How do you know that there wasn’t some communication? If the other party uproariously laughs at you, then even a dullard such as KA can get the message. @Brawndojust posted that Marner went to Vegas. I suspect that this previously arranged under table deal was already known by most of the league.
  21. You are assuming that he made no inquiries regarding the availability/interest of this immensely talented player. If it was made clear to him that the whale talent had no interest in coming here, then why waste your energies in a futile pursuit when it an be directed toward some other smaller fishes that can still help you improve the team? I recently had my bank call me to discuss some financial “products” that would benefit me. I politely but firmly told them no, not interested. The bank hasn’t called me back about their beneficial “products”. They didn’t want to waste their time. This is an easy case to recognize the reality of the situation and channel your energies toward other fishes, even if they are smaller.
  22. It's not a non-answer. You are refusing to accept the reality of the situation. The basic point is that the GM knows before official contacts are even allowed what the odds are of getting this particular player. You want to argue theoretically that it could be this or that. Of course, theoretically it could be anything. What I'm saying is because of the situation the player is in and what the situation of his franchise is in our GM is not fool enough to waste much time and effort in the pursuit of this mirage player. If you don't want to accept my position on this issue, that's fine.
  23. The GM talks to a lot of people. I'm sure there were some casual inquiries. I'm also sure that the GM has an idea if Marner has an interest coming here and what his contract parameters would be. How substantive and serious would they be? Not much. If the player's agent was called and the agent said not very interested, do you think our GM would have much more follow-up? At that point, our GM wouldn't waste any more time in the pursuit. I'm comfortable in saying that the GM is already aware of what the Sabres chances are in getting this particular player: miniscule to nil.
  24. You don’t think that our GM is aware of the contract range that the player will be seeking? Do you not have a basic understanding of the financial limitations the owner has placed on the GM? If you don’t believe that then what has been going on for the past number of years? If you believe that there is more than 1%chance of this player coming here when he has options then your world of reality is not the same as mine.
  25. It’s not defeatist to use some common sense and exercise some strategic thinking. Acting out of frustration only leads to more frustration. You may not be aware of it but delusions are not grounded on reality.
