I hate talking politics here as this is not what this forum is for and I wish that people would leave their politics in the thread it belongs in.

That said, no they wouldn’t be leftists.  Dole would be a big government moderate and Jack would be a conservative.  He would be correctly dead set against all of Biden’s economic policies.

I knew Jack all of my life.  My father and he were close friends and I worked for Jack when he was HUD Secretary.

I only knew Kemp through my father and party business.  From what.I saw of him, you and your father were lucky people.  I recommend people find some of the old ESPN NFL history videos about Kemp, particularly the one about moving the AFL All-Star game.  Sometimes, politics and sports intersect and there is no avoiding it.  The more ambitious can read his political biography, which I believe is called _The Happy Warrior_.

I will riff on one of his jokes and say that I am glad that his biannual threat to be QB for the Bills turned into a great career.

Respectfully, no such thing this time of year. But I fear the dead-cat bounce.

I don't think there can be any question about this.

That said, it is a bit of apples : oranges - comparing Allen to any other QB (mainly Kelly) to have played for the Bills.

I was in a full lather at the stadium last night - surrounded as we were by a great many Cowboy "fans."** (Shoutout to my regular STH neighbours who sold their tickets.) Anyhoo - when the refs whistled that one play dead just as Allen broke free and was about to hit Diggs for a 50-yard score or rip off a 25-yard run - I just started screaming "THAT'S NOT A QUARTERBACK IN THE GRASP ... THAT'S AN ALIEN ... AND HIS NAME IS JOSH ... F**KING ... ALLEN."

**Cowboy "fans" who were born and raised in the midwest/rust belt? C'mon.

The league has been brainwashing casual fans into rooting for the Cowboys for decades.

  3. Whaddaya mean we might beat Dallass?  I read on TBD 8 days ago that the season was done for and that we might not win another game and certainly get blown out by the Cowpokes.  You can't mean that they were wrong, could you?  Everyone who proclaimed it seemed quite certain about it.

Every game that goes by it is tougher and tougher to stomach this team. This is the first week since i have been able to watch every game that i voluntary decided not to watch the games. I am already thinking not to waste my time with the games this week as well. I will monitor the chat and i get scores sent to my phone, but it is better then the frustration of watching a team we have seen fail over and over the last 13 seasons. The only difference now is that we are not supposed to be this bad, but here we are.

    Welcome back!

I feel guilty missing games because I have been that loyal over the years, long COVID not withstanding.  This season, because of the lack of quality veterans brought in the last 2 seasons and the lack of NHL-ready players in Rochester, I think that we will have to tolerate more this year, which sucks.

  5. The Sabres have been missing a line's worth of top-6ers most of the season.  I think Tuch, Thompson, and Cozens have been playing hurt.  No team without an embarrassment of NHL-ready riches could handle this level of injuries from the farm.  The 4th line on the team has been at best marginal NHLers or AHL-NHL tweeners.  IMHO, until this team is close to healthy, we will be seeing more of the same.

I’m still trying to figure out how that happened. We’ve sucked for so long you’d think we would have gained some depth somewhere.

    Let's see.

Botterill wouldn't draft from the CHL.

Murray squandered a lot of assets.

At most handful of Adams's picks could be in the NHL

That is why there is little youth ready to make the jump to the NHL.

That is why Adams needed more veterans to fill out the roster the last couple of years.

Trades.  Not every player has an NTC/NMC.  If you can't get players to sign here until you prove you are a winning organization, then KA is going to have to take a risk or 3 and trade a precious prospect or draft picks or both to fill his roster holes.  The biggest issue here is our pro scouting staff. So far the players they are recommending to KA haven't exactly elevated the team.

GMKA has to be willing to trade high ceiling prospects for established veterans.  If it is true that it is hard to sign people in the off-season, then he needs to figure out hockey trades with teams looking to rebuild or another team that needs a shake up.  I don't see any way around it.

We are one of the 1 or 2 youngest teams in the league. Our average age does not place us as being a team on the cusp of its prime. The middle spine of our team (Thompson, Mitts, Cozens, Krebs, Dahlin, Sammy, Joker, Power, UPL and Levi) started the season with an average age of 22.8. It will be 3-4 years before they reach their collective prime. We are augmenting this group with players like Peterka, Quinn, Benson, R. Johnson and likely soon Kulich, Rosen and Savoie, only making us younger.

Removing Okposo does not improve our PP, it doesn’t make our goalies more experienced, it doesn’t improve our D structure and it certainly doesn’t make up for the fact that Thompson, Tuch, Cozens and Olofsson are on pace to score less than 1/2 of the 142 goals they scored a year ago.

Okposo is most likely in his final year here. I would not have any great concern if he was moved via trade. His time as a Sabre is passing to be sure. But moving on from Okposo as the captain does not begin to address the issues with this team.  Okposo’s presence on this team is not the problem.

This is why @GASabresIUFAN, @PerreaultForever, and I wanted more veterans in the line-up for the youngsters to displace as they grew up.  Maybe the reputation of the Sabres' organisation is such that the only players the team can get are like 2 years ago, with a bunch of marginal NHLers and has-beens.  I wonder what else can be done.

Is it Tuch's fault that there are 2 ancient F's that are considered the team's leaders but there aren't any ancient D (that have been here more than 30 games)?

This team is kind of in the spot the Bills were with the "bickering Bills" back in '89 leadershipwise.  The younger guys really are (or SHOULD be) the leaders, but the old guys are still looked to as the leaders.  Personally, don't believe it was a coincidence that the team stepped up to another level after Devlin and Smerlas were allowed to leave via Plan B and the team finally became Kelly's, Smith's, and the rest of that bunch.

As far as who else can step up?  Mittelstadt, Cozens, and Thompson all are candidates to join Tuch and Dahlin.  (Though Cozens needs to get out of his own head.)  In the not too distant future Quinn, Peterka, Benson, Johnson, and maybe Power should be right up there as well.  And expect Levi will be a leader on this squad by then as well.

REALLY don't want to see this team get back to where it was early in the Pegula tenure with outsiders getting the C either in short order or immediately like Ott, Rivet, Gionta.  Nothing against any of them, but it was telling that no leaders (other than Vanek of all people, who split the C with Ott) were on the team that had come up through their system by the time Ott was given a partial C.  Don't expect it will go back to that anytime soon.

I am not faulting Tuch. Just pointed out that Dahlin is already an official part of leadership.

It is possible that the Sabres need to move on from Okposo and Girgensons to take the next step.  I don't know

But, GA's contention ISN'T that Dahlin AND Tuch are the leaders.  That was THIS KID's contention.  His is that it's that ONLY Dahlin is the leader.  And when asked to provide support for his view, he comes back with 'well, it just is.'

Well, Dahlin is a current member of the leadership group.  I think that puts him ahead.  My question is who else can step up?

Between the Bills and Kim’s Health, He has already taken a step back.

He would still be involved in some decisions such as major trades and retains a large financial stake in the franchise with more NHL Expansion on the Horizon

The Kids have non existent at Key Bank Center for awhile. Matt Pegula used to be present at draft meetings and represented the family at the draft in Montreal last year. But was nowhere to be seen this year.

Laura Pegula represented the Bills at the owners meetings earlier this season and Kelly is around the team quite a bit.

The Sabres are not a priority for them

Too bad.  I liked their attitude.  I imagine that the continual floundering would be harder to stomach as a fan and owner.
