How would you retool this team this summer?
Pimlach replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Adding a back up goalie and one RHD is not nearly enough. Need to move on from more pieces of this roster. Good-bye to Quinn, Muel, maybe Krebs, and one of Power/Byram. -
Dahlin you keep. Adams loves Power and Byram. One of them should be moved though. Muel can go, but he is probably not going to be moved because of his salary, and if he does we will have to take a someone else's bad salary (see Norris for Cozens). Clifton has a year left and then he will run, not walk, to free agency. Joker was moved for JDB. That is a Adams kind of deal, it doesn't move the needle. Bryson re-signed. Ugh.

I tend to agree with this given todays situation, but once upon a time there were many Sabres fans coming down from Canada. Even in the early days, when the Canadian fans were about 13% of the STHs, the majority of them were Sabres fans. Just like the fans in WNY, the fans in Southern Ontario are not going to blindly follow a terribly run team that shows no signs of even trying. So when these younger fans come to games they tend to cheer for star players, or players from nearby towns, or players that may have played Juniors nearby. The Pegula Sabres did this to themselves. It only stands to reason that the lost generation of Sabres fans affects both sides of the boarder.

Adams is not adequate at anything accept maybe listening to his boss. He took no ACTION during the losing streak. Instead he held the most embarrassing press conference of any GM in team history, and the negative media attention actually made the team even less of a destination and reinforced the negativity that surrounds the team. Then he let his boss give the boys a pep talk and a day off, only to get whacked by the Canadians that evening. We lost 7 points to Montreal this season. Yeah, that worked out great. Another season that was essentially over by New Years Eve. Finally, he trades Cozens at the deadline and gets a guy with an $8M cap hit for the next 6 years who you cannot count on to be in the line up. But why would I worry about the cap hit? They don't spend to the cap anyway. I am really hoping Adams gets fired in the next week.

Throw in a 4th line heavyweight, unless we have to have Dahlin, Tuch, and Thompson fighting. It is amazing that with all the draft picks and prospects that we still need the same things the past 2 years. It wasn't long ago we were ahead of Montreal and Ottawa in the standings and we had the "better" prospect pool. Yet, they are in and we are 11 points out.
