I think American news is crazy and it's driving the country crazy (along with the internet "news" sources as well of course). Constant drama and over reaction all the time.

No, it's an indictment of not signing some solid bottom 6 forwards in free agency (or getting them via trades). I can't comment on Washington. Haven't seen them play. Have to assume they as still big, heavy but slow. Contrast in style, unless they have rookies I haven't heard of yet. Speed and the PP have to be there to get a win.

I have to disagree in part. If we finally one day make the playoffs and then it's just Leaf style exits for years after the window will slam shut on us before these guys get anywhere and then it'll end up another de-re-construction. I guess (in a way) that's better than no playoffs, but after a few years it'll suck in a whole different way.

It's getting harder and harder to differentiate between authentic critiques, sarcasm and just plain old trolling. Personally I can't be bothered to try to figure it out, but in this case I suspect it's one of the last two.

So what? One, that was last year. Two, they're terrible at preventing goals. "soon" is another Sabres mantra and it never occurs.

It's really not a big issue because he's at the end of his career anyway. He was only brought in to counter Reaves and Jeannot and maybe play a role of responding to a Tkachuk in the playoffs, but he was on the fringe of even being on the roster so if the NHL wants to grandstand this they pretty much can and they can "make an example" of him with little actual affect on the team or any other teams. If he was a young star it'd be different. I don't recall the NHL ever making a big deal over anything off ice. If I remember correctly Sean Burke had a brief suspension with spousal abuse allegations some time ago. The NFL certainly doesn't care after they smooth over immediate optics. I doubt the league does anything. He's on indefinite leave of absence and I imagine that's the end of that. Pain meds and alcohol, never a good idea.

Ya, but they're not. They have a .472 win percentage and only 2 teams in the conference are below that. They also have a -14 goal differential and only one team is worse. You don't get anywhere near the playoffs with that. Can a win streak change that? Well sure, 3/4 of the season left and if we play the rest of the year like Boston or New York we will ride high into the post season BUT there's nothing about the way this team plays that would make anyone think that's going to happen. They're garbage.

Except, Marchand had double hip surgery before last season and he's still who he is. Every athlete is different, but if their fitness level is high it is definitely something you can come back from. It's really a simple question. Who would you rather have on the roster Kane or Olofsson?

I agree with this, mostly. I just don't want to be the Leafs. If we ever get good enough to be a playoff team I don't want to be a regular season team like they are. It wouldn't be frustrating the first year, maybe not for a few years, but eventually it would be almost as bad as this.

Success is relative, but it's based on improvement from the previous season. You can set the bar higher if you are ambitious or demanding but generally it is doing better than before. Thus, for the Leafs, it's not about making the playoffs it's about winning in the playoffs. For the Sabres, since we missed by a point it's about making the playoffs. If we don't, it's a fail. If we do, it's progress and a success. You move forward from there until you get to it's about winning the cup. Right now Granato has a sub .500 win percentage for his time as Sabres coach. Most teams would have fired him for that already.

Yes, that's definitely true, but it all goes hand in hand imo. The way the team is built, the way it plays, the way it's coached, the expectations, the lack of accountability, the incredibly low bar this organization sets. We have, and we continue to, coddle these young guys and talk about development but we do not set a standard and an expectation. We are all too often lazy as you say. We make lazy plays. There are no consequences for that and so it continues. It's all connected.
