The perfect 3 for sure, but more likely a 2 for most of the season and playing ~25 games.

Ideally #3. That would allow UPL to cook in Rochester until he is ready to force his way onto the Sabres roster.

Realistic assessment is he would be the #2 and we hope his games are limited while he stays healthy.

I don't want to block the young talent from making it to the NHL, so I like the concept. At the same time there has to be a reasonable #1 (or #1 and #2) that can carry the load until that young talent is ready for the show.

    Honest question.

My Gal and I are 4 years in, it's been a bit rough the last 8 months or so.

I left work last night and made a pit stop to pick up something on the way home. I got a message asking what I'm doing after work, I said going home and sleeping, which was true.

I get a message asking if I am seeing someone after work, I said no, I got a reply that said I know yours at someone's house and idk why you aren't telling me truth.

Fast forward to today, I got curious, I've also been hearing this weird chime in my car the last month or 2 and thought it was a VW thing. Sure enough I look closer and there is an airpod wrapped in a pair of thin gloves tucked into the passenger side door area.

That chime is apparently called "stalking mode" and goes off when you move and aren't near the owner, she knows that I know next to nothing about iPhone stuff and technology in general.

So essentially there is no trust as she put a tracker in my *ucking car. There's no other explanation for this at all.

An I misreading anything here, this is grounds to end it immediately no? Anyone ever dealt with a situation like this!? We live together and have had a lot of adventures and it'll suck to Todd away 4 years, but I'm not sure I can get over this.

It's taken me a few minutes to talk myself into replying to your question Woody. But here it goes.

It's over. The trust and belief are gone. It's been over, but now you have a defining moment to put a point on it.

Make a total and clean break right now. Your life is not about the past, it is about today and the future. Today you got kicked in the gut and got a clear and vivid picture of what the future will bring.

Of course it is painful, not easy or convenient. You work in medicine, you know what giving bad news to a patient and/or their family is like and the intense pain they feel. It hurts like hell right now. But you also know that the pain will eventually subside when given time to heal. Or you stay and try again only to have the pain get worse, metastasize and consume more of you.

My prayers are with you. I know that your brothers and sisters at SabreSpace are with me in that regard.

Who cares? I mean, really ... who cares?

This should not turn into a pissing match concerning John Friggin' Eichel.

The John is gone!!  Long live the John!!  But not here.

Thank you SF. You summed it up perfectly.

Yes Eichel left the Sabres carrying with him an unquantifiable stench. I freely admit he was not ever a favorite of mine. I had hoped that he had turned the corner for the better 3 seasons ago, but that season was not confirmed in the following years. I was happy to see him go and with a decent return to make it all the easier to say goodbye.

So he is gone and no longer someone we should be putting so much energy and angst into. He's gone. Forget about him.

Is John a coach killer? Again, he's gone, so who cares, since it will never be a Sabres coach that he will be or won't be accused of getting fired.

Only time will tell what John's legacy as an NHL player shall be. I hope he stays healthy, has as long a career as possible and whatever team he happens to be playing for at the time looses every game they play against the Sabres.

Vegas can still pass it to the sabres if they chose too, but I doubt they would give us the 6th.  Whatever happens happens, but I can really see Las Vegas be worse next year.   But they would never bottom out.

Lehner's gone, or even better... he stays. More contracts are moved to get under the cap. Another year of injuries. John doesn't become Jack again and only puts up 50 points. It could get ugly and the Sabres could be sitting in a good spot.

  5. If I were the new owner, my first move would be to hire PA as Hockey Czar. That way he could explain to me every day why the team he is in charge of and totally responsible for in every aspect, isn't meeting my expectations as an owner.

  6. Too many unknowns at this point in time.

The additions and subtractions that we see the Sabres make later this season will certainly make a difference. Maybe a huge difference if the pieces fall into place.

Ask this question again in 45-60 days and the answers may be significantly different.

That's great, now let's see if he can teach them how to play with a lead.    Really hope to see some progress.  They work their bags off to get a lead then panic, get on their heels and give up glorious chance after glorious chance.   It's not a difficult thing if implemented correctly.

Of the 100 things DG has had to work on, fix, break, improve or eliminate this may very well be number 95. Quite possible he simply hasn't gotten there yet.

Interesting stuff. Shed a brighter light on what really happened over the past year or so.

What jumped out at me the second I saw the thread title was that Friedman got paid by being the first to interview Jack after the trade was announced. Those of you questioning were all those rumors were coming from should ask Pat Brisson how many times in the past couple months he happened to have a nonchalant chat with his old buddy. Friedman has been carrying lots of water as of late.

While I agree with your point, this wasn't designed to be "1st interview after the trade" it was (right from Friedman's mouth) scheduled before the trade and was designed to be "interview to help force trade."

Understood. See highlighted area for clarification.

I'm not a hunter but maybe this is spot to ask so here it goes:

My family has a spot in the Southern Tier near Cuba, NY and it is extremely remote - 1 mile up a dirt road on the side of a mountain/hill.  The wildlife in the area is wonderful, but what really has me worried are the increasing number of bears. We spend a lot of time walking, biking, and 4 wheeling in trails and I was considering to start carrying a pistol on me to at least scare off any apex predators.  I grew up in boy scouts and my father is a lifelong hunter and fisherman so I'm very comfortable around guns and familiar with gun safety, but I have no experience with handguns and he doesn't either.

I was thinking to start with something smaller like a 9mm to get comfortable with it, and then move to a larger caliber that could actually provide some type of protection against a bear.  Does this sound reasonable or should I just get some bear spray and call it a day?  I have no desire to carry other than when I am heading to camp and in Niagara Country we don't have many bears to worry about so I haven't had to really consider this situation before.

Any advice is appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

    11 hours ago, Weave said:

Honestly, you dont have to be concerned with the bears.  They are hunted in Chau Co.  They are afraid of you.

If that isn’t reassuring enough, go for the bear spray.  There is alot of debate about the effectiveness of handguns on bears in an attack situation.  Much less debate about bear spray.

If you do feel compelled to carry, learn with a .22.  Even a 9mm teaches flinch.  Keep in mind that a .44 mag or 10mm has alot of recoil in a handgun and the effects of either on bears is hotly debated.

Weave is spot on with his advice. Those bears are more scared of you than you are of them.

I live in AK and we deal with them every year. Bear spray is the backup plan. Make noise and let the bears know you are there. A surprised bear is a problem. A bear that knows you are there will be gone before you ever see it. Regarding firearms, using a 9mm pistol will only make you the target of a pissed off, wounded, surprised bear and that is not what you want. If you feel that you need a firearm, a shotgun loaded with slugs Is the better option. Not easy to carry but it will be the best option if you have a real bear problem.

#1- Make noise and let the bears know you are there. Make sure you are not leaving food out and attracting the bears into camp.

    #2- bear spray

    #3- shotgun

He could do that simply by having the ADR without their consent.  If it fails and he cannot play, they can void is contract for not following their treatment plan.  But he won't.  If it were a possibility he would have done it already.

The downside for Jack is he assumes all the risk to the point of not getting paid for the next 5 years.  He's not going to do that.

So.... they're just giving up on this season.

There is a middle ground here somewhere. Eichel, the Sabres, the NHL and NHLPA will all have to moderate their positions. Everyone accepts some level of risk and some level of responsibility if this is going to move forward.

For NHL contracts, there is no such thing as contract renegotiation.

Yes, you are correct. Usually the team just has to swallow the costs and move on.

I think we can all agree the situation with Eichel is different than the usual LTIR or cast-off player getting his contract fulfilled.

I believe it is extremely unlikely that Eichel is traded before he is proven to be healthy and the Sabres receive acceptable trade value in return.

I believe it is even less likely that Eichel will have ADR surgery while still a Sabre, unless steps are taken to significantly reduce the teams financial risk.

In order for Jack to get what he wants, he has to give something up. How bad does Jack want that surgery? It's got to be badly enough to be willing to take the Sabres off the hook for the bill(s) that will result.

For the record, I think Jack should be allowed to have His desired procedure

Negotiating 101: In order to get something, you will have to give something up. For Jack to get his desired surgery and protection from the potential fallout, he is going to have to give up something very precious. I'm now seeing a contract renegotiation as an avenue of discussion.

    Hate ties with a passion

OT either 3v3 or 4v4 is good for me. Although I wish they'd go 10 minutes.

I'm on the opposite side. I don't like to use the word hate, but I really do not like that some games are worth 2 points when others are worth 3.

My preference would be 5 x 5 for a sudden death overtime period of 10 minutes. If there is no winner after that, it's 1 point each.

The whole hockey game turning into a skills test is not appealing to me.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't really view sports fandom as a decision that evolves over time. Once you're a fan of a team, you're a fan of a team. I'm not really of the opinion that that changes due to the performance of the team.

I may be alone in that, but I suspect I'm not.

Defense wins championships, even in this era.

If there is a Dman in the draft that is highly rated to be a 1st pairing guy in the future and you already have one it is the most reasonable to pick that guy number 1, if you are fortunate to have that pick.

If Rasmus becomes a Potvin and Power becomes a Robinson, or Korab, or Shooney, the Sabres have their D studs.  Cozens, with luck, will become a competent 1C and Mitts a 2C.

We need one, or two (can you imagine), goalie prospects to develop into solid 1A and 1B NHL goalers and the Sabres are set.

I'd adjust your idea a bit to say that solid team defense combined with solid - hot goaltending will win you a championship. Winning games 2-1 or 3-2 will get you a parade in your hometown.

Having a couple of HOF level Dmen is nice, but that's not enough to win the Stanley Cup.

My general supposition is simple. Because of his health situation his trade value for now is diminished. The level of diminishment as I see it is greater than what you perceive it to be. And this is diminishment is reflected in the unwillingness of teams to come near to what the Sabre organization wants. With that realization I'm more willing than some are to lower the asking price.

I'm on the opposite end of that discussion. I'm not lowering the ask by even one cent until there are more answers to a bunch of unanswered questions.

The unknowns here are where exactly our boy Johnny is at with regards to 1) the injury 2) the recovery and rehabilitation of said injury as of today 3) the need for more rehab 4) the NEED  for surgical intervention 5) if surgery is needed (unavoidable for him to play hockey this upcoming season), then which surgery serves ALL PARTIES best. There are probably more questions beyond those, and I want to hear that any and all of those items have been addressed before any trade is made.

KA needs that information, as does Johnny and his agents, as do any of the GMs that have an interest in acquiring his services. All of this could be cleared up by this time next week if Eichel presents himself at the doctors office in Buffalo at 8am Monday morning and is ready for a day of testing and evaluation to determine what his CURRENT status is. Until those answers and the pathway(s) going forward are determined, KA needs to sit tight, wait for answers and not have another ROR trade shoved down his throat.
