It's not on Granato, yet. A year from now maybe, and that's if KA gets him a full toolbox to work with. Tools being 2 solid (top 4) D men and a bridge goalie (real goalie, not a hoping for something better goalie) that can backstop the team until UPL and/or Levi are ready to take the reins. Icing on the cake is a experienced 4C to take important draws and drive the PK unit. Add those things to another year of experience for the youth movement and Granato is in trouble if they piss their pants over the last 25 games of the season.
Short answer is nope, not even a consideration at this point.

It depends on the desperation of the suitors. I could see a bidding war get out of hand.
That's the cool thing about KA. It gets out of hand, he gets out. He's not crossing those lines.

Do I recall correctly that Levi felt that his game was similar to what Saros does in Nashville? And KA has already made a down payment with the Preds in the form of Asplund for a 7th. I'm trying not to overthink this.

KA says he is not standing in the way of the kids and allowing them to earn their spot on the Sabres when they are ready. If Levi is more ready than UPL and Comrie then so be it. Anderson certainly isn't any part of the future unless it involves coaching. I'm trying to temper my enthusiasm, but this young man seems to have something special about him.

Interesting fact, Yaniv Perets is from Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Quebec. Same town as Levi.
Who is the goalie coach for the peewee team in that town? That's who needs to be brought into the organization.

It's really makes me kind of excited and a bit nervous to think about how much talent might not have a spot on the 2023-24 roster. There are going to be some very good hockey players not seeing NHL ice time with the Sabres next year. At the same time there are some holes that make you wonder how they are going to be filled. There will be some talent leaving in order to properly fill those holes. KA is going to have to give up something to get something and surprises might occur. Things like giving away Asplund at the deadline will hopefully provide good karma for future deals. I see only about 7-8 current Sabres who are untouchable at the moment and several talented guys looking to push the others down the roster or out the door.

Probably correct. But when the Thompson line took to the ice at the end of the 1st looking to sneak a lead before the period ended, Granato put Olofsson out on the ice with the 2 regulars from that line. Expect it's goning to be mainly either just Vinnie sitting or him and Peterka rotating shoulc everybody be healthy.
Granato loves him some VO.
DG knows that VO does one thing, and only one thing, well when he's got it going. That was a good opportunity for VO to get it going again and imho nothing more should be read into it than that. Not about love as much as it was about taking advantage of the opportunity. I will not be surprised to see VO sent packing in the off season.

Gone are the days when the Sabres had cornered the market on NHL level Rasmii.

Pastrnak Extended in Boston. 11.25 AAV/Eight years
That's going to leave a mark. Boston going to be doing some roster gymnastics this summer.

I just heard that Tampa doesn’t have a pick until round 6 this summer.
KA doesn’t need to swing for the fences yet. Let other teams make mistakes. We are in the mix this year but let’s be honest, it’s a year earlier than expected.
Exactly. This season has been a win (at least to this point) for what KA was hoping to accomplish. Sure some playoffs would be great but KA wants it to happen organically, not via a spending spree. I think back to the old investing adage: Pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered. KA isn't about to put this team in a spot where they get slaughtered in the future just to make the playoffs this year.

If that happens, great, you get some bargains.
If it doesn't happen, no big deal. You have a team full of young guys that have worked well together so far.
This is what KA is all about. Today doesn't matter nearly as much as tomorrow and the future beyond that. He will trade if and when it is too good of a deal to pass up and it absolutely has to have very strong potential to make the Sabres a better team going forward beyond this year. He is walking his talk.

So this is all being discussed in Around the NHL. Are you looking to pull the conversation out of there and into here?
My educated guess is that it’s now going to occur in two spots.
How about if it was titled Scoreboard Watching on Saturday, 18Feb. Does that work better for you? I like this idea of having a separate spot to look at this info. Thanks much to Lou for starting the topic and I vote him official keeper of the daily scoreboard watching thread.

Hell, I would vote for shrinking the playoffs
1st round best of three
2nd round best of five
3rd and finals best of seven
I would also vote for either bringing back ties, or have OT until someone scores like it is in the playoffs. Fire the shootouts into the sun. I hate a skills competition deciding games. Always have. But that’s just me.
Absolutely agree with this. Some games should not be worth 2 points while others are worth 3 points. Play hockey during an overtime period and if tied after that, kiss your sister and take your 1 point while the opposition does the same. So simple and easy but the NHL can't figure it out.

in what way? Their drafting is questionable, their acquisitions have been questionable, their coaching is in question. I don't think they are a badly run franchise but idk if I think they are "one of the best run".
Again, you are comparing this to past Bills teams and that is not relevant when they should be compared to the league now.
Everything is questionable when you don't win the Lombardi. Whomever wins this year will have questions about next year. That's life in the big leagues.
I'm not wearing rose colored glasses. I've stated previously that the OC and DC cause me concerns. Dorsey will hopefully learn and adapt. I await word on what the plan is for the defense and if a new coordinator is in order.

Sorry, but most of the guys will be back.
Dawkins 15 mill (13 mill dead cap), Morse 11.3 (5 mill dead cap) and Bates 4.8 mill (6.5 dead cap) aren't going anywhere. Brown is a starter making 1.3 (400k dead cap). I expect all 4 back. Saffold is also on the books for 2 mill (2 mill dead cap).
Dawkins moves to LG and is the back-up LT. Morse starts to begin with and mentors his replacement who is drafted. Bates backs up RG, C, LG. Brown has to win his RT spot, otherwise is the swing tackle. Saffold is an UFA and has to come back at a reasonable price to fight for his position. Yeah, they need to be back and also be pushed down the roster by better options.

Got beat in every aspect of the game.
It will be interesting to see what changes are made in the off season. It is obvious that injuries had an impact this year, but OC and DC play calling are certainly suspect over the 2nd half of the season. They got figured out, didn't make the necessary adjustments to overcome the personnel issues and the schemes other teams were throwing at them. Some teams they could beat anyhow, but it's the playoffs and they got their lunch taken and punched in the mouth as a reward.

If they play the Bengals they will be. Make no mistake, Joe Burrows and the Cincinnati Bengals are the real deal.
It's the playoffs and the teams still playing are the real deal. Everyone has game and they are all professionals. Everyone giving it everything they have. If they don't max out, their career may be over, therefore it's a battle from start to finish of every game. The LAC-JAX game is proof of what happens if you think it's over before it's over.

Better showing tonight giving up 2 goals on 37 shots in the win.

Michigan shelled last night vs. OSU while playing at home.
Portillo gives up 7 goals on 45 shots. Not a great showing.

The "track meet" style of play is our identity. That's how this team needs to play, and that is what the opposition is trying to take away. What's great about this style of play is that it is entertaining and exciting to watch. Compare this Granato style of play to the troglodyte style of play that Krueger promoted? There was the obvious tribute to Hamlin that made this crowd revved up. But what kept them aroused throughout the game was the pace and quality of play. What a difference a coach makes!
I'd pay good money to share a beer with DG sometime and get his thoughts on what it was like to be on that bench and have to watch RK coach those teams into the toilet.

I'm just happy to hear the good news that has come out today. And I am thankful for all who have involved in Damar's recovery to date, regardless if their role was Devine or like a second assist on an ENG when your team is already up by 3. Just keep getting better Damar!!!

I can’t see it being a 3-goalie rotation.
It will be Comrie backing up UPL unless one falters.
Adams has been adamant about UPL’s playing time and Comrie is part of the future.
Okay, not a rotation. That wasn't the best choice of words on my part. Anderson offers the glue that allows Comrie and UPL to move forward. Maybe later in the season the decision will be made to move Andy. But for now, Vinny can be traded or waived and Anderson can pick up occasional games when the schedule gets tight and it's game 2 of a B2B. Anderson in the room is more important than Vinny in the press box.
-
GMKA is intent on looking to the future. As long as UPL is playing the way he has for the past 3 weeks, he is definitely part of the future and a 3 goalie rotation makes sense. Vinny is not part of the Sabres future and is traded or waived when Comrie comes back from the Amerks.
