  1. Achieved our seasonal average snowfall in Anchorage on Christmas Day. Already have had a few roof collapses. And we only have another 3-4 months of winter to go!  Lots of skiing available but the backcountry is shut down due to high avalanche danger.

  2. Given what we all perceived as a team potentially approaching 100+ points this year, this is absolutely an unacceptable product.

I don't think it's the players as much as it is the coaching staff and front office. No more "we will learn from tonight's game" speeches.

Put Gallant behind the bench and allow him to reset the bar. By the end of January you will know if it really is the players or not.

I will of course pull for Dallas, but keep in mind that Dallas has been bad on the road. Miami is going to see how we ran on Dallas.  Miami has two real good running backs plus the explosive WRs.  I’m a Dallas skeptic.

Dallas has to prove to themselves and everyone else that they can win against good teams on the road. Miami just has to prove they can win against good teams. I see Dallas as the better team and a loss at Miami could confirm the downward spiral into the playoffs  and therefore more to play for.

I've been thinking about this.  KO is pretty much out of gas and adds very little value most nights.  If he weren't the captain, he'd almost certainly be in the healthy-scratch rotation.  But I think it's still a pretty firm rule that you don't healthy-scratch your captain.

Shouldn't the captain be the first person stepping forward to do what is best for the team? It should come from Kyle or does it come down to DG making it happen?

    The seasons over.

Decisions need to be made, we'll see if Pegula has the balls to make them.

    Nope, not even close.

All they have to do is get to the playoffs. All teams this year seem to have significant flaws.

Get to the playoffs. Get hot and throw in some luck.  Get some good matchups. Don't get done in by the zebras. Parade!!!

There are a dozen different teams this year that could win if they can only get to the playoffs, and the Bills are certainly in that group.

Why are we talking about waiving and trading UPL right now?  We still don't know what we have.

When you have 3 goalies you don't have a goalie.  Pre-season was not enough to sort it all out.  In our case we have a rookie in the mix.  A real NHL rookie goalie, how many of them step in and do great with no other professional experience?

I suspect we will rotate the 3, with Levi getting the majority of the work unless someone else is playing better.   Comrie should play again tonight.   I would go back to Levi in Ottawa because the game is very important, but if he is hurt then you go with UPL or Comrie.

It will take some time to sort this out.  UPL will get his chances and when he does he was to earn his next start, they all do.

So we get to do this 3 goalie thing and work tirelessly to improve our team defense (an absolute must), and still score enough to be in playoff contention.  This is going to be a great hockey season.

I voted for the waiver wire, but you have made an excellent argument(s) to make me reconsider my vote.

A great player. I'm not a huge NBA guy, but I do realize he is a great player, but I was always under the impression he was the 2nd best player on that team behind Tatum?

$61 Million dollars a year for who might be your 2nd best player?  Who is going into his 8th year in the league without a championship?  I mean he's great I guess, just the number kinda surprises me...especially when Lebron, Curry, Durant, Giannis...all are making salaries close to that $40m per year mark.

$61M is close to what the City of Buffalo is budgeted to pay for all of the firefighters/EMS personnel in the current budget year. 🤯

edit: my apologies for the not really sports related commentary.

A close friend of mine, who still plays for Frolunda, is a former teammate of his and they talk pretty regular.

VO wants out, which is no secret.

That said, KA doesn't just give guys away, so it wouldn't surprise me if he's still around come training camp.

Most everyone can agree that if KA got a decent offer for VO at any point so far this off season, he would be gone.

The Quinn injury changed that plan and gives VO an opportunity. That chance along with his enjoying the view from the press box for the final 20 games of last season should be a wakeup call. It's totally up to Victor. He wants out, he's got to play his way into a trade or onto the waiver wire. I hope he is up to the challenge and chooses the proper path.

Well Dahlin gets about a 4 million raise.
power gets about a 7 million dollar raise. I’d guess mitts somewhere around 5 million, but if he repeats the end of last season, it could be more. Krebs may get a modest 2.5 if he is similarly productive next season. Then Pesce will take around 7 million most likely, maybe a little more or a little less. Hellebuyck reportedly wants 9.5 million. If we do all those deals, that brings us to 83 million dollars with 16 players on the roster. Some of the empty spots will be filled by players with ELCs and be cheaper, but even filling out the roster with ELCs would put us over the cap in the 2024-2025 season. Maybe we make do with 21 players on the roster, 5 being rookies/players for less than 1 mil. After that, we’d be relying on the salary cap to raise enough to resign Quinn, JJP and Levi the following season. This doesn’t really seem like it will work. We might be able to handle trading for one big player and signing for term, but we can’t really do 2.

I appreciate your thoughtful approach to future considerations. I would say that you are maybe getting too far into the future considerations. KA needs to concentrate on what works best for the 2023-24 season while keeping an eye on how that effects the future. This team as now constructed seems to have the pieces that could get them into the playoffs if things go well. There are still many moving parts to fit into spots around the NHL between now and the start of the season, and therefore lots of opportunity for KA to add and/or subtract one or two more pieces to the team. I'll wait to see what happens before the season starts before I start looking for a reason to complain that KA didn't do enough.

I think Benson, Savoie and Kulich are all on the Sabres next year.

Maybe individually at some point in the season, but IMHO not all 3 to start the season. That's just too much new and unproven rookie learning curve to the start the season with.

Never mind. Just saw your reply.
