Mitts I could see, but VO would absolutely worsen the Girgs/Okposo pair. And VO would provide little for Krebs’s development. Like I said weeks ago, no matter where you put Mitts or VO after splitting them up is gonna screw up another line that is working pretty well at the moment.

Maybe a nice seat in the press box after having a "Come to Jesus" discussion would be helpful. No messing up other lines. Vinny or Rasmus are certainly chomping at the bit to show what they have to offer in a game situation. Maybe not now, but the time will come where DG needs to shake things up.

I want them to upgrade the defense.  DG himself has stated that he has saddled that line with the depth D.

We'd all like to see a stronger defense at positions 4-7, but it's not here at the moment. Any line with Mitts and VO playing at their current level will be saddled with the 3rd pairing regardless of who those D are. They need to step up and give DG a reason to change their usage. We don't need to find excuses for them.

Z was a top 15 pick. Why isn’t he an underachiever under the same standards being applied to Mitts? Z’s best season is 30 points but over the last 6 years he has averaged about 18 points.

Casey already has 20 points in 36 games and is on pace for 45+.  What more can Casey do with his role when DG admittedly has saddled that line with lousy D?

Is that the case? It seems more of a situational determination where DG needs to rest his more useful lines, so the smart thing is the bottom pairing D goes with the Mitts-VO-currently Jost line on offensive zone face-offs where they hopefully have the greatest chance for success. What more can DG do than provide them the protected minutes in the hope they produce? Would you rather be burning out Muel and Dahlin just so that Mitts line isn't saddled with a weaker pairing? I believe it was Dudacek who has shown the TOI curve is heavily skewed to Dahlin-Muel-Power as it is. They can't be doing 30 minutes each night.

  4. Same one I make every year. No Brussel Sprouts in 2023. I have no problem making it through a year and not even being tempted to break the resolution.

For you 'nill.... you need to resolve to pay off your debts in a timely manner. I'm thinking you have a bunch of bets that I hope go bad on you this year.

The economy is booming, a part of why we have inflation.

I don’t think we really want it to recede.

People have gotten used to the years of Fed money being pumped into the economy at 0-2% interest rates. Things get out of wack when the yield curve inverts. Fed governors feel like they have to fix it and therefore just add more pain and suffering for those who can least afford it. It's going to take a little work to get it straighten out again. Hopefully by mid-summer at the latest.

All those stories that the airlines placed in the news--the ones about unruly passengers (who probably were driven to madness by the airlines themselves)--have led to further inequity, as well.

    Did you get your bag?

Yes! Amazingly it showed up 5 days after we got home. More amazingly, everything was still in it. Okay, not really so amazing.... it was loaded with dirty clothes.

Lost my mom yesterday, only 67 years.   Had a bleeding in her brain on 4 december.   First weeks she could stil move and talk but after that it just got worse.
I learned a lot , too much about the human brain in 2 weeks.

Left side of brain was completely gone, and right side 60 % gone, we had to take her of life support and let her go.   Going to miss you mom 😞

One thing I did notice, a lot of lonely people in hospitals, 6 beds in our ICU ward and always same 3 that had visitors everyday.

Sad to hear this news. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

And yes, hospitals can be horribly lonely places for some patients. I've spent 35+ years watching the family dynamics play out with sick family members. Makes you wonder how the species has survived.

  8. Lots of "what if" variants to this question. Too many to even rationally consider at this point and provide an answer for the poll. Many here have made good arguments both for and against UPL staying up with the Sabres. Let's wait until Comrie is ready for a rehab assignment and by then some of the other questions may have been answered. Until then, I just don't know.

Ever since the pandemic, traveling has been a nightmare. Over my life, I've flown A LOT. Sure there were some occasional inconviences and weather issues; but this whole new wave of short staffing everywhere has really hit airline travel hard. Delays at a minimum, cancellations, ridiculously increased flight prices to boot. It seems like the airlines have a free pass to recoup any money lost during Covid and the overall experience has suffered because they know people want to get out again.

This, and they couldn't care less about customer service. It's like they are doing us a favor by simply making sure we survive the trip and nothing else is at all important.

We recently returned from an extended multi-city, multi-country trip where 2/3 of our bags were delayed or lost, with one still totally unaccounted for. Finally today spoke with someone who actually seemed to understand the problem and care enough to do something about it. We will see if she calls back  with any idea about where bag is at.

Gotta look at this as an opportunity.

Hitting the bottle a little early are we?

I guess that you have not noticed lately, but optimism is no longer allowed here.

What he is accused of doing shows a pretty clear lack of any empathy.  That isn’t normal bully stuff.  That is sociopath stuff.  I don’t think you grow out of it and become a better person.

Agreed. At the same time we all need to give him a chance to prove that he has indeed grown and is a MUCH better person. As stated above, there has to be a short leash with clear boundaries established. A shock collar set a max would be a good idea too.

    Correction orthopedist reading.....

Radiologist as in the guys that the Sabres medical staff works with and trusts. Not Nighthawk. For those of you not working in medicine, Nighthawk is the overnight Radiologist service provided by a bunch of guys and gals in India and Pakistan. Their abilities are suspect and their diagnosis is often overturned the next morning. Technology is great, except when it isn't.

I plan on being in a Full Send ∆8THC gummy haze until I have to work on Monday.

I cut them into quarters (about 8.8mg). They truly are the only thing that make me feel like I don't half to puke all the dang time.

Good to hear that you are finding the things that get you through your day. One day at a time, working hard to make tomorrow better and most importantly never, NEVER giving up.

I'm happy that UPL signed for 2 years.  This is his chance to make the NHL without any major blocks in front of him.  I expect and hope that he'll start the season in Rochester but I hope that he plays well enough that we'll agree that he deserves the chance to play with the Sabres (not just a default because of injury to Comrie or Anderson).

The bar has been set for him right there in plain sight. If he does not established himself as at least the solid backup tender for the Sabres by the time this contract expires, his time with the Sabres and maybe the NHL will likely have come to an end. Hope for good results from UPL, but have no idea if he has it in him or not.

    TIL (from article):

Kessel has appeared in 982 consecutive NHL contests, the longest active streak and seven games away from tying Keith Yandle's all-time record of 989.

982 contests, but he should only get credit for about 2/3 of that. Phil's 120' game on a 200' rink is amazing. Only time he is ever been below the dots in the defensive zone is when it's between periods and he has to go there in order to get to and from the locker room.

Update: I have has to do a lot of long, long overdue work on the house with the Erie County Health Department and the Town of Amherst overseeing it.  It was so bad that, essentially, I called out myself and my wife.

Because of this, Sally is not getting the training she needs.  We are looking into friends taking her.

Aside: our house has had no real maintenance in 20 years because of our work and our general lack of handiness.  My sister and brother-in-law are recommending abandoning it, losing our 6 cats and Sally, having it condemned, and starting over.  I screwed up my rolled-over retirement in 2019 by working for a start-up and will be using my mother's inheritance for the maintenance.  My family think this is throwing good money after bad.  I can't give up and would rather cram 20 years of maintenance into 1.

Sorry to unload like that.  I needed to vent somewhere.  I feel awful about the house and about Sally.

No problem with venting here. You are among friends and you letting off a little steam doesn't bother us one bit. The path is not always easy to see or traverse, but you will find your way to the end if you just keep at it and making headway.

Robin Lehner doing Robin Lehner things.

Is this something that was fabricated by a less than adoring fan? What is the very fine print at the very bottom? I enlarged it and think it says "probably", so I have my doubts this is an actual quote. Although Lehner has the history to support such an outburst, I hope he isn't going to sink his NHL career with such a remark. He might be crazy and a loose cannon, but he knows where his paychecks are coming from.
