He won’t be LTIRed, he’ll just be put on regular IR.

That opens a roster spot but doesn’t give us cap relief

He could very easily be put on LTIR. Putting a player on LTIR DOES NOT affect the cap space of the team or the cap hit of a contract. It instead creates cap relief, where a team can go over the cap. Having Bishop on LTIR would result in no change to the total cap hit of the team, it would just create cap relief space in the event that the team went over the cap.

Here’s a link explaining how LTIR works

I would add Danton Heinen to the mix. He is a defensively responsible forward, analytics darling who put up 33 points last year.

He was not qualified by Pittsburgh for cap reasons. Evolving Hockey predicts a 3 year, 2.6 Million AAV

Sounds a lot like Asplund. With our centers all being young, and with JJP and Quinn looking to make the leap to the NHL, another defensively sound forward that can chip in offensively would help balance our lineup a good deal.

In the spirit of the post talking about people talking past each other… I think most people advocating for this type of trade is inferring a Taylor Hall situation where Chicago can’t get Kane’s true value because Kane forces his way to one team.

If Chicago is only interested in true value and doesn’t want to unload a salary, then the deal is dead for everyone.

So what your saying is in this scenario, unless Chicago is able to get what they think Kane is worth they won’t trade him?
I don’t think that makes a whole lotta sense. IMO they are tanking, and are currently trying to accumulate young assets. If they don’t trade Kane they get nothing for him. I would think they will take what they can get for Kane, similar to how we took what we could for Hall. It wouldn’t surprise me if it took until the trade deadline for him to be traded though.

We'd have to get to the cap to use the LTIR, though, correct? That'd be a lot of additional spending in order to save on the Bishop insurance.

I may be wrong, but I believe he could still be LTIRed if we were not at the cap- I think we would need to be at the cap to get the cap relief associated with him being on LTIR.

What thing that Terry has strongly wanted had ended up being a good thing?

It’s not Hockey, but supposedly Terry really wanted Pat Mahomes. Im happy with Allen, but there’s no denying Mahomes ended up being a good thing.

The other thing I've read is he is so irresponsible/indifferent on defense that he broke Dach. Still think on balance, you get him if the price is right.

Dach wasn’t playing as his center, correct?
And if he was playing center between Debrincat and Kane, his production was horrible considering he would have been between 2 ppg players.

So I've seen talk about how Kane made Debrincat and he can't reproduce that in Ottawa. Well wouldn't we want similar result from say Cozens? What if he can turn Cozens into a ppg type player for the next couple seasons and accelerate his growth? Would have two legit top lines in the entire league.  Olofson, a first and maybe Portillo or Peterka? Quinn is untouchable to me. Sign Kane to 3 year extension.

1 year of Kane is not worth that much to me. If it was a sign and trade it would be more expensive, (probably similar to your proposed trade) and I don’t think I would do that. By the time we are really ready for cup contention, Kane will likely have slowed down a decent bit, and his cap hit likely won’t match with his production. Not worth it IMO. If we can get him at the cost we got Skinner, I’d do it, but not much more.

  8. Adams plan: the team plays great but is handicapped by poor goaltending. The Sabres finish 10th/11th in the league, and then miraculously win the lottery. Bedard is added to an already skilled young forward group, and the Sabres use 3 2nds on RD to balance out the roster. Sabres win 5 of the next 10 cups.

I'm interested in why they selected C 3 picks in a row...was it truly best player available on their board or did they specifically target the position?

Seems like Savoie was a no brainer pick, but why the other 2 on top of him?

Savoie was a no brainer, and to me looks like a guy that could end up at C, or he could end up as a RW. Östlund I think either ends up at C or doesn’t really stick. Kulich looks like a guy that can play anywhere in the lineup, if he develops well, he could be a top 6 winger or a 2nd line center. Or he could play further down the lineup in whatever role you want from him. I think they were all BPA according to their board, and at least Savoie and Kulich were among the BPA according to the media.

I don't mind the AAV of $3million, but as a career backup I only do two years, maybe three.

He’s not really even a career backup at this point in his career. He’s played a total of 28 NHL games, 19 of which came this past season. Before that, he had not had more than 3 NHL games in a season.

    Yeah but 5 centres!

Adams can take the next 2 years off again 😄

Wait, so @Thorny is James Patrick and you are Craig Rivet?

2020/2021 were the years of the wingers, 2022 the year of the centers, please KA let 2023 be the year of the Dmen.

Or in a package deal for John Gibson, 1 can only hope!

    There is always hope

I hope the Sabres don’t touch Gibson with a  39 foot poll. Hasn’t been above .905 and a negative GSAA for the past 3 years. On top of that he is overpaid for the next 5 years.

  13. What I really like about this draft, is by the time these guys are ready for the league, Quinn and JJP should have already established themselves as quality wingers. That gives us Tuch, Skinner, Quinn, JJP, Oloffson, and whichever of the centers that may eventually end up at W for Savoie/Ostlund to set up.

But isn’t he too young for the AHL?  I.e. isn’t he permitted to play only in he NHL or juniors/college/overseas?

I think that limit is if he is under contract to a team, and it depends on the league. He didn’t play in the CHL, or the SHL where those rules are more strict. Don’t much about the Czech league restrictions.
