  1. The longer this continues and the more stories I read (and unfortunately friends/family/people I talk too) the more this frightens me in society. Seriously, I’ve never been this concerned before but it’s getting scary. I just took for granted the amount of common sense people had......
  2. Yep, completely agree. So angry reading through a couple articles on it.
  3. Wow. Couldn’t believe it after his daily pressers telling everyone to stay home and not visit family or friends. Unbelievable.......
  4. Ya I didn’t want to post about the mask issue in case it got political but JFC. It’s unreal. Canada and the US have been allies throughout the vast majority of our histories. Fought along side each other in several wars and this is what Trump does first chance he gets? I’m proud Canadian but love my American friends. We have similar cultures and I have some good friends south of the boarder (including Sabrespace). We need to help each other and get through this together.
  5. Not everyone reads the millions of thread pages in there. I like making this a new thread and bringing this to our attention.
  6. Boris Johnson (UK PM) is now in ICU fighting the virus....
  7. Be careful if you’re coming to T.O. I’m also impressed with your Premier. Ford has done a complete 180 and actually doing a reasonable job himself. Shocking but there is hope yet.
  8. I’m think of you North Buffalo. You guys are hero’s for the work you do. Keep us updated if you have time.
  9. It’s been 17 days straight over here. Have not left the property line. Unfortunately saw this coming so stocked up and have atleast another month worth of food left. But wife and kids are getting tired of canned meals haha. So we’re going out later next week. Put in an online order with a grocery store and they deliver it right in the trunk of the car in a contactless environment. Plan on driving it home and leaving it in the trunk for a couple of days. Have some ice packs to periodically throw in the trunk. I know that’s overkill but with my chronic condition I’m not taking any chances. Also a shout out to anyone working on the front lines of this. You guys are amazing. I have several family members in health care over here. I worry Ontario is going to get hit pretty hard as well.
  10. Are you still of the mind this is just a bad flu season?? JFC......
  11. Liger also said this was essentially just a political issue in the old thread that got locked down. If people and governments listened and reacted when concern over this was first raised as it happened in Asia and started the spread to Europe we would be much further ahead of the curve. Wish I could quote that old thread but it got locked because people turned into into a political issue. Oh well, let’s focus on what can be done now. The lack of testing (still!) in North America is absolutely mind bending when compared to how quickly countries like South Korea and Germany started rolling out mass testing.
  12. I hear this was a thriller https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pandemic_(film)
  13. What a great article. Ask my family and this is what I’ve been shouting from the rooftops for a month now. If we mitigate the spread now it interrupts the exponential spread which could literally save hundreds of thousands of lives. Obviously not me determining that but every virologist or other infectious disease expert had been saying for at least a month. Makes perfect sense but I look around and just baffled and disturbed by societies response. Articles reassuring people if they’re young and healthy they will be fine. They’re trying to limit panic but I think this takes the opposite effect and limits people’s perceived risk. They don’t take it serious or take necessary precautions and that is how the spread picks up exponentially.
  14. I sometimes wonder if society is desensitized to what’s happening because of Hollywood and the fact many have predicted or glorified this for several years. No reason to panic but if people don’t wake up and take this ***** seriously it will literally cost many lives. Even if you won’t die, don’t be an ***** and downplay the severity so it continues spreading (I quoted you but not directed at you).
  15. I sure wouldn’t bet that. But we will see.
  16. Ontario has announced it will close all schools for two weeks following next weeks March break.
  17. This times a million. I think everyone is too focused on mortality rate for the virus itself. There are reports 15% of cases require hospitalization. Even conservative estimates say 40% of population may be impacted. Run those numbers. It’s not just dying from the virus. It’s the impact to the entire health network that is concerning. People who have a stroke it is so imperative to get to a hospital and treated immediately. Now there are less paramedics and doctors available for all other illnesses and events. The mortality rate of literally every other health issue will also likely increase.
  18. One last rant I need to get out. I'm so sick of hearing the media announce a death and immediately start talking about the individuals underlying health conditions. Incredibly disrespectful to report the death and immediately introduce an underlying connotation that it was somehow their fault almost. I know it's to 'calm' the public but if that's my dad or aunt or whomever then I just find it so belittling. You know what is counted as underlying health conditions? High blood pressure and diabetes. I wouldn't be surprised that the North American population has a higher concentration of both those conditions then any other continent. When you start including even high blood pressure the death rate jumps significantly greater then 1%. Also, when did it become socially acceptable to reassure all the younger people that if they're young and healthy they will probably be just fine?? The elderly are societies most vulnerable population and there is so much selfishness going around reassuring younger people they will be just fine. This lowers young peoples perceived risk of the virus and will lead to increase spread rates as a result. JFC, I can't believe the dismissive attitude many still have over this virus. No, there isn't a need to buy 800 million rolls of toilet paper, but yes you should be prepared and regardless of your age or health, please take all necessary precautions to consider social distancing measures even if you're unlikely to get really sick from this. Think about your mom, dad, grandparents, neighbors. Every virologist that I've seen interviewed over the past two months has beaten the drum about limiting the spread early. It could have dramatic results on the overall mortality rates when all is said and done. Telling younger people they don't need to be overly concerned will lead to greater spread rates and an even greater burden on our hospitals.
  19. I was being facetious. You think this is still just the flu? Also, to those that continue to plead how many more people die of the flu each year then the virus all I can say is brush up on how exponential math works. When this is all said and done deaths from Covid 19 will significantly outpace the flu. The other major concern is the rate at which the virus requires hospitalization of the host. Our hospitals are going to be completely over run just as it is in Europe right now. Do we start including deaths from people that may die of heart attack, stroke, cancer etc that now can’t be saved due to the lack of health care resources due directly to Covid 19?
  20. The ignorance North America has had to this virus from the beginning all the way up to today has been both disturbing and maddening.
  21. No it’s only the flu guys. It’s only an American political issue. Who here got the flu shot???
