  1. But Pitt was selecting 3rd in that draft. Moving up from 8 to the top 1,21 3 is a much bigger jump than 3 to 1. The team trading out of that spot still wants a very high pick. I know 8 sounds high but the value of the top guys in the draft drops significantly after the top 5. Also, as explained before, I don't think Colorado would be willing to pay the money for a Vanek type guy. Calgary on the other hand might be more willing to IMO.
  2. This all depends on how the draft plays out. I understood the move last year because there was a huge run on Dmen and we were looking for a centre. We ended up taking a highly regarded centre with our first pick and the Sabres must have had Girgs ranked high enough on their board that they jumped to trade up. We say now that we don't know who would be worth moving up from say 18th to 12th but if a guy like Monahan (just using him as an example for LGR) then we go for it. As casual fans we're grading the draft a certain way but if the Sabres scouts have a guy pegged at say 8th or 9th on their board sitting their at 12 or 13 and we can move up to take him, I want them to make that move.
  3. It's going to take a lot more than Vanek to get a top 3 pick. Firstly, as someone else pointed out, those trades very rarely happen. Even if Colorado was open to it Vanek only has one year left on his $7 million deal. I'm sure he'll be looking for atleast that kind of dough come extension time. They wouldn't even pay one of their own young key players (O'Reilly) so I doubt they'd be looking to pay big bucks for Vanek. Cheap teams like Colorado are looking to draft good young players who they control financially for a few years. IMO, I feel that unless we win the lottery, we aint getting to the top 3. Best case scenario is we end up around 8 and Minni's pick is around 18. Then we might be able to package the two to move up to maybe 5 if we wanted. Or more than likely we use the 8 spot and then trade a 2nd along with our 18 to move up to something like 12 (similar to what we did last yr).
  4. Oh no, I watch every second of it hoping for the loss.
  5. Oh I didn't mean to post it as if it's going to happen. I'm not up on Twitter (obviously) and want to know if it's literally all just people making things up or if there are actually ppl that are legit. Who should I be following?
  6. Hockeyy Insiderr‏@HockeyyInsiderr2m BREAKING NEWS: #MNWild have HUGE offer on the table for Pominville> #Sabres seriously considering dealing him to Minny; ball in their court! Are all of these twitter guys bogus? I'm not up in the 'new technology' to really know who to trust haha. Good for some excitment atleast.
  7. I understand the concept in the real world. Again, I don't necessarily think it translates to this situation. Ok, I shouldn't say there is no difference between this years pick and next, I would rather have this years. But I don't think it's as big of an issue as has been discussed. To me 2014 2nd and 2015 2nd > 2013 2nd 2013 5th.
  8. I think the exact opposite of this. I feel like Darcy aquired the future picks because it's a signal that there is no immediate rebuild. As I and others have mentioned, 2nd rounders are huge every trade deadline. In a salary cap era teams should be able to turn things around relativley quickly and that 2015 pick may be needed at the deadline. That's just my opinion obviously.
  9. After sleeping on it, I still can't get the rational about draft picks being more valuable today than in the future. The 'I'll pay you tomorrow for a hamburger eaten today' theory does hold true in real life. But that's because of inflation. There is no inflation with hockey players so I just don't get it. I wanted the picks to be this year because I'm impatient but I don't see how it's devalued being in future years.
  10. Only positive I can think of is 2nd rounders seem to be gold every trade deadline. When we completely revamp over the summer and need that big addition the next two deadlines we have our trading chips. Right
  11. Couldn't agree more. Captain of Team USA and the guy looked excellent in that tourney. I'm very excited for him.
  12. Miller has looked sharp tonight.
  13. Philly with the dubya in ot.
  14. Philly ties the game with less than 10 seconds left. Nice we needed that for our chances of getting a top 3 pick!!
  15. Buffalo has been the much better IMO thus far. Surprised Ennis didn't bury that 2 on 1.
  16. Well I'm sure glad I PVR'd this one and of course they go to OT and my PVR doesn't record the shoot out. The worst part of this game is the Sabres giving the Panthers a point. Just checked out the League standings and there are five teams with less points than the Sabres! Five! It's actually hard to be such a crappy team to 'earn' that top spot. I should give more credit to Edmonton. Let's keep the losin goin.
  17. Tell him to get his ass down there. I need more support!
  18. Likely no Vanek or Sekera will make this difficult. Let's see some guys step up! I'm actually really excited to see Pysyk play. I think he's been one of, if not our best defensman over the past couple of games. Hahahhaha, I meant Sabre/Leaf games not FNC in general. But nicely played good sir.
  19. I'll be there tonight with some of my leaf supporting friends. A Thursday night with March Madness starting and the Sabres playing poorly the atmosphere may not be quite up to it's usual level. These games are always fun though.
  20. I'm assuming half of it has to be sarcasm. I would hope atleast.
  21. Now see if they can get another in regulation. Sorry guys, I really want that pick.
