Isn't a good sign that people are here complaining about our 76 year old announcer and not the team itself? good times
-
with the pace he's on now, I don't imagine anything less than $8.5M/yr

Isn't it crazy to think that Hawerchuck had 96 pts that year and was still 3rd on the team behind LaFontaine and Mogilny?

Not to mention he wanted to come here.
I think JBots will get him signed.
Yeah i think this is overlooked, reports were that the only team he waived his clause for was Buffalo. Before even stepping on the ice, he mentioned that he's excited to play with Eichel who'd be the best center he's ever played with. He always looks happy too, every goal that he scores and the team scores, he's smiling. Hopefully he doesnt ask for Eichel like salary.

Yep! Skinner and Eichel are clicking. Eichel hasn't had a winger at Skinner's caliber. And Skinner hasn't had a center at Eichel's level. W/ the talent/chemistry they have Botterill has to do what he can to make a Skinner a long time Sabre. They are scary good!!
Skinner is on a 50+ goal pace right now. the sooner we sign him the better, but, me thinks Skinner will wait until late as possible and get a monster contract and we have to pay him, as you said, he is the best winger Eichel has ever had.

i had to watch the TSN broadcast, the Sabres put Hutton in for the 3rd, took half a period before they stopped saying Ullmark

there was ceratinly a lot to not like about the game, goaltending, defense, but, let's just be happy they won a game where goaltending and defense wasn't good at all. like a few people said, good teams find a way to win even when they play poorly. we pumped Carey friggin Price for 6 goals, Jack and Jeff continue to keep scoring.

I saw it reported that Dahlin is on the 3rd pairing with Baloo...i dont get it

I wouldn't call any games winnable when your struggling to score 10 points a game
-
I am hoping to look back on this game and think it was the one that changed the team. In 1988 early October, the Bills were getting beat up by the Colts by like 20 points or something, they came back and won. IMO that game is what really started the Bills dominance, they made the AFC championship that year. I know its a crazy comparison, but, I am really trying to hope the Ducks game was their 'arrival'... we shall see

That Vegas game hurt, i was texting my friend that if the Sabres didn't split with the Kings and Ducks, I wouldn't be making much of an effort to watch the games. glad they won both in the fashion they did

It's the modern NHL, I expect most goalies to top .900. I would like to see Hutton get more support as I think he has played much better than his .909% shows.
Hutton at .909
Ullmark at .982 (only 2 games played)
i think that Hutton is better than his .909 (he was hung out to dry by a few pisspoor efforts) and Ullmark isn't going to keep up his .982, but all in all, i guess my point was that it's nice that we have two goalies we can feel good about for once.

While we would like to see Hutton's GAA come down, however, i think we're missing the fact that both goalies are over .900 save %.

I got very nostalgic when i saw this post. I grew up just off French Rd on Gabrielle Dr across from Idlywoods "Resort" apartments. French Pub was a staple for our family, I always got the Weck n Wings platter.

Early season indications are Jeff Skinner, who will be 27 next May, is making a very strong case to be Jack's LW'er for the next 7 seasons after this one.
He's strong in the hockey motor, speed, soft hand skills, sniper and puck control categories. He appears to be gelling with Jack very nicely.
So I put a poll up to gauge where peoples early thoughts are on him, re-sign or deadline trade him.
Re-signing him presents real intriguing situations since we have a plethora of RW'ers throughout the organization pipeline. If we go this route, would we have to move Okposo, especially given all the young talent in the pipeline?
Personally, early on, I say re-sign, 7 x 7. I cannot believe we got this guy for the value we gave.
I am hoping the flood gates have really opened for those two together. It'll be tought to get Skinner at $7M/yr if he keeps up this scoring. THe last few games have me all giddy about the possibility of them together a long time

Well maybe, but neither lit it up in preseason so don't get too excited just yet. I hope they can make the jump, but I'd leave them down there for a while to develop together.
Patience with Olofsson, just like with Ullmark. Bringin him up too early could potentially have negative consequences, though, his scoring would be helpful.

I'm surprised no one here is discussing Sean McDermott's hanging up on Schopp and Bulldog during his weekly segment with them today on WGR-550.
When the interview was over, Schopp said: "All right Sean, thanks." And McD just hung up the phone without saying anything like "goodbye" or "you're welcome."
They then had to go to commercial break. When the show came back, for the remaining 1/2 hour or so in the 3rd hour, Schopp simply disappeared. He was not on-air; it was all Bulldog and Bulldog never discussed Schopp's absence.
When Hour 4 began, Mike Schopp was back and said "Where were we?" and Bulldog just laughed. That was as much as was ever explained.
I think Schopp called McD to ask "What the hell was that about?" and they got into it on the phone, such that Schopp ended up missing roughly 1/2 hour of broadcast time. That's all pure speculation though and I have no idea what happened.
The segment starts 12 minutes into Hour 3.
Here's the link.

SM has probably getting tons of blowback from everywhere about his golden boy and he doesn't know what to do or say and he's getting super frustrated about it and he's gotta be upset about the way we lossed as well. he tries to be super diplomatic in eery interview but i think it may be catching up with him.

And Sam has zero. But he's looked good and has 3 assists already. He's an example of why I am not worried about that stat, as is Skinner, having only one goal but looking dangerous.
I think that Skinner starts to light it up, he got the monkey off his back over the weekend. He's had a lot of good chances but wasn't get the 'luck'.
15 hours ago, GASabresIUFAN said:Like I said in the original post, besides Jack and Conor, our other 12 forwards have 2 goals total
It's a good thing that right now, Eichel and Sheary are carrying the team until others finally start potting goals. I think it's more likely that those other 12 forwards start scoring than to stay stagnant.
-
5 games in with a sizeable roster turnover and a bunch of line shuffling, not surprised about it, but, yes, we need to score more goals, and i think we will soon enough.

Should've posted earlier...went to my first NCAAFB game a few weeks ago with my father in law, Ohio St thumped Tulane. Absolutely amazing expereince, far better experience than any NFL game i have been to, save for a Bills playoff game when I was 12.

Right, what I'm saying is, why is it likely that their offense would but their defense wouldn't? With the same defensive players, they were 15th in the NHL in goals allowed last year, and still top 2 in ES goals scored.
If anything, it's more likely that their goals allowed becomes a more reasonable number, but they remain elite at scoring.way to crap in my corn flakes....haha i was being optimistic

This isn't saying much, considering that his scoring rate could significantly decrease and still win him dozens of harts, art rosses, and richard trophies.
We try, but there's no way to "feel good" about what is going on with Matthews and the Leafs right now, unless you truly believe that their offense is likely to stagnate but their defense is unlikely to allow fewer goals
The problem is, guys like Kapanen are sliding up into those roles and have a good chance at just being better, faster, smarter players than JVR/Bozak.
their offense doesn't need to go stagnant, based on averages, they need to score 5 every game to win because they are giving up 4.25. they can score 4 goals a game which is spectacular, but if they cant keep the puck out of the net, its bound to catch up to them.

soooo, in the preseason, did anyone think that in November, the Sabres would be good enough to be tied for first if they were in the Metropolitan Division?
