  1. Looking more and more like Big Sam is out at Everton.

    IncredibleSevereFiddlercrab-size_restric

I was thinking of renouncing my Everton support in favor of one of the bigger teams, but if Sam leaves I'll stick around. Plus City was who I was thinking of picking up and I can't jump on that bandwagon NOW.

I think instead I'll just get more into Dortmund as team in a different league, that'll give me some European soccer to watch unless/until Everton can make some moves into the upper level.

Though if Pulisic moves to the EPL I can't be held responsible for my actions of who I support at that point. I just hope he moves to a blue team (City, Chelsea, Spurs, no way it'll be Everton but sure) instead of a red one (United, Liverpool, Arsenal). I hate all those Reds.

My father in law is an Everton fan and my wife and I follow Liverpool, it's been fun.  I never liked futbol until a few years agon watching with my wife, turns out, I love it now.

  2. Odds are high the #Oilers deal their 10th overall draft pick this June because whatever teenage defenceman is available at that spot is probably 2-3 years away from playing in the #NHL http://edmontonjournal.com/sports/hockey/nhl/edmonton-oilers/edmonton-o

If this is true, any interest in dealing a LHD man for the 10th pick?  Would trading Scandella and pick 32 get it done? would leave you Dahlin, McCabe, Guhle and Pilut on the left side.

    Ig

I think trading Scandella is not a good move.  I am hoping he plays with and mentors Dahlin.  I can see a Tallinder-Myers type relationship with Scandella-Dahlin.

The reasoning that the Oilers want to trade the pick is why they have sucked for so long and will continue to even with McDavid.  They haven't done a great job of drafting and developing defenseman.  Probably one of the reasons they traded Hall for Larsson.

  3. I've always wondered why people post his garbage all while admitting it is garbage.  Why are you giving him the clicks?

Didnt give him clicks, I like the Sabres writer Michael Pachla on Hockeybuzz, one of the best on the site, Ek's headline was that, didn't read or click on his article, and thanks for judging

ROR, Bogo, Nylander to Edmonton for Nugent-Hopkins and Klefbom??

Bogo has no value, horrid contract and always hurt.  Nylander doesn't have much value right now either, but, some GM might think he just needs a change of scenery.

  4. Franchise D are so few and far between when you have the chance at one (not saying he will be one, but the feeling is that it is very probable that he will be) you have to take it.

Whoever is drafting 2nd (I forget who ... Carolina, I think) will very likely have their franchise winger.  Poor Montreal ... always a brides maid brides maid and never a brides maid, or a bride.

Not true, Ek has them trading for Toews, they'll be fine

  5. I was all for trading him before but I really like the fact that he went to the Worlds. Might not be a popular view, but players who willingly sign up for the Worlds all get thumbs up from me. Speaks to character. competitiveness and a simple love of playing hockey.

    Jack on the other hand.........

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but, in case you are questioning Jack's character, competitiveness and love of playing, I think that is completely misguided.  How do we know he doesn't think it's more important to already start training for the Sabres next season, how do we know he doesn't have a minor nagging injury that he wants to let heal and be top shape for next season?  etc etc

  6. Nashville or Winnipeg winning it is fine for me.  I'm fine with Tampa as well.  I don't think Washington has a chance to win the cup.

Well they did eliminate the Penguins in 6 games, and in game 6, three of their top 6 forwards were hurt, inlcuding Backstrom.  I'd say they have quite a good chance to win the cup.  It will come down to the goalies in the ECF.  This will be an amzing series, I think we see OV energized now that the Penguins-2nd rd failure monkey is off his back.

  7. You know, you are basically giving credit to the Bills for being lucky and not sucking as bad as other teams.  They were anything but good this past season.  They were an mediocre team that got by on a fluke play from the Bengals.  That pass gets dropped or doesn't end up in the end zone and your tune on the Bills is that they were mediocre and missed the playoffs.

How good were the Bills?  They jettisoned their starting QB.  No team that is GOOD, gets rid of their starting QB.

When the Bills retreat back into 4-12 land this year what will be the attitude towards that team and their successful leadership?

The Ravens sacked Trent Dilfer the year after they won the SB with him.

  8. They can make space if they trade us Malkin for Reinhart+Risto and a pick!

Seriously though, I wonder if either Malkin or Crosby would be interested in a change of scenery just to mix it up before they start their downward trend. No evidence to support it, they seem to be all happy there, just wonder.

I would say that there is no chance whatsoever.  Crosby and Malkin probably have 5 more very good years in the tank and probably one more cup to win. No way that Malkin waives his no move clause to come to Buffalo anyway.

  9. Our cleaning lady at the office is from the Philippines and today we were talking about coffee and she told me in her country they make rice coffee. I was a little curious about what exactly that meant and it turns out they roast rice and then make "coffee" with it.

    http://lovers.coffee/the-rice-coffee/

very interesting, i may have to try this.  i make my own horchata from time to time, love the rice flavor.  thanks for sharing

I know it ain't Thursday but this is essentially the non Thursday compliant thread, right?

Best friend's boss has had a ton of women come forward with allegations of assault/other nastiness that I won't get into. I knew the guy well. Always found him scuzzy and had heard horror stories from his exes, but well, I was complacent because the culture of his tattoo shop/social circle was always blue humor and edginess.  I rolled with it and had lots of banter with him over the years, and generally ignored his come-on's and pervier comments. My friend would call him out on his line crossers and he'd cut her hours or otherwise screw with her.

Long story short- it's clear he did this crap- my friend quit last night and is starting at a better shop this weekend. I'm glad I don't have any tattoos from him. I feel like crap that I was yet another person who maybe in a sense enabled this d!ckhead over the yearsNot only did his actions directly harm those he assaulted, the ramifications affect so many others who worked for and with him. Fu*k garbage people. I hope someone takes his happy ass to court. Don't get a tat at voodoo monkey if it somehow stays open after this. He's a sh!tty artist to boot.

do not burden yourself thinking this way, you didn't enable him.  the guy was likely a POS for years before you knew him and he would have continued to act that way had you never even met him.  please dont blame yourself.

  10. http://buffalonews.com/2018/05/07/bucky-gleason-any-chance-nhl-can-hold-expansion-draft-for-buffalo/

As usual Bucky doesn't get it.  I'm rooting for Vegas because of what they accomplished.  Bucky is right about one thing, LV is a bunch of blue collar guys that Buffalo fans would embrace.

The way McPhee built the Knights is why I started this thread.  Why can't our GMs (DR, TM, Jbot) find those bargain players that aren't being properly utilized by other organizations and just need a chance to show what they could do?  Jbot tried with Baloo and although it hasn't worked out so far, I'm not going to criticize him for trying.  Frankly we need more such attempts.

Where is our Marchessault or Colin Miller or William Karlsson?

What 3rd liner for some another team can become a top 6 winger for us?  They happen every year.

If this rebuild is ever going to work we are going to need to find some players that outperform their paycheck beside kids on their ELCs.

I'm curous about what Florida was thinking that they didn't protect him, who did they think was better that they could part with a 30 goal scorer?

  11. Couple of concerns...

1 - Who will mentor the young Swede? Housley? IMO you need a veteran on-ice presence to guide him through the rigors of his first season in the NHL. That guy currently isn't on the roster.

2 - He was a healthy scratch in Pyeongchang. Why?

3 - Friction between him and Eichel. Hear me out.... Both guys like the puck on their stick. They both like to rush it up ice and hold on to it. Will there be enough rubber to keep both satisfied?

4 - Defense. Can he play defense or is he simply an offensive threat? Karlsson, IMO, is terrible defensively. Doughty is a stud. Will he be more like his fellow countryman? Hmmm.

5 - I'd like to sit down and talk to him for about 3hrs... then talk to his former teammates and coaches, meet his family and friends. Find our what makes him tick, how much does he simply love the game, what is his ultimate goal in life? Does he value money as much as Austin Matthews? Is he smart? Until I get those answers, I'll have some reservations. It takes a special type of individual to reach the pinnacle of their sport.

genuinley curious about the bolded.  what does that mean?

  12. Hockey fans are nuts when it comes to trade ideas, I have seen some doozies on here as well.  I just looked at a capfriendly.com trade proposal from a Leafs fan.

Toronto receives RoR (Sabres retain $2M), Sabres 2018 1st (Dahlin)

Buffalo receives Nylander, Kadri, Rosen, Leivo, Leafs 2018 1st

I have no clue who Rosen and Leivo are, are they the Toronto versions of Sabres fans tossing Larsson and Fasching into trade proposals?

In the same scenario, the guy has the Leafs signing Tavares at 7 years $10M per.

So what do we think?  I mean, 4 guys for 2, Sabres win that trade all day!

(I chose this thread because it seems to fit well, Toronto and delusion)

  13. Great post! I agree with most of it but here's a bit of a different take on it.

O'Reilly is an elite 2 way center if nothing else. Truly believe he loves the game and could be captain for alot of teams. An "A" for a deep team Canada says alot. The fact the this losing couture mentality has effected even him, leads me to believe it's not a couple 0layers that are the problem. It's the teams mindset. I mean we can all tell somethings not right when watching can't we? Inability to come back against any kind of adversity most nights. The shadow of doubt, or whatever you want to call it, creeps in and we shut down. Not being competitive for so long will do that to you. I have buddies I beat at nhl so often after I'm up 1-0 they literally think the game is over. Not trying to brag but it's a relatable point. What we need is a sound enough roster, some hope that were in this game, we can skate with these guys and win. Dahlin arrival has already helped that IMO, we have a glimmer of hope when yesterday we didn't. I can feel it, you can feel it, Eichel and ROR and everyone else can too. If a good hockey trade comes up then that's what happens, as long as the on ice product is better for it I'm all ears. Just a take not saying I have it figured out, but here's 3 of my next season rosters, with and without major shakeups.

    A-

Baptiste O'Reilly Reinhart*7x6.5 (wishful thinking but a bridge would come in lower cap hit)

    JVR*3x6.5 Eichel okposo

    Erod mitts pommers

Girgs Larsson Bailey (Bailey baptiste each at 2x950000)

    Scandella risto

    MCCABE Dahlin

Beaulieu guhle antipin1x1.25M Pilut fighting for time. Bogo hurt but not in LTIR

    Lehner3x4.125

    Ullmark

Leaves is with little cap flexabilty for a season, nothing too detrimental. Might not be enough term for JVR but because we hit 6.5 we got him. Maybe not realistic but there's a chance.

    B

Huge free agent signing of Tavares. This one's more of a pipe dream then A. Enabled us to pull off an Inter-division. O'Reilly and a 2018 2nd rd, for Pacioretty, LW prospect Kerby Rychel and goaltending prospect Zachary Fucale.(potentially different draft pick if MTL is willing to sign Lehner and shop him or keep him)

    Pacioretty Tavares Okposo

    Erod Eichel Reinhart

    Baptiste/Rychel mitts pommers

And the rest pretty well identical to A. Tavares 11.5×7. Reinhart 4.2x2. Leaves us pretty tight to cap. Flexabilty could be found by denoting players such as Beaulieu,or LTIR bogo. With that space a 1yr ufa deal for a goalie could be found as a stop gap.

C- Which I believe will be closest to reality. Maybe not same players but same positions being filled.

    LW Matt Calvert signed 1x2.5

    Speedster Grabner 2x2M

Grubauer either traded for(As per PA) or slim back door chance of a 1×3.925975M offer sheet(compensation 2nd rd pick, which is maximum before it becomes 1st and 3rd)

Reinhart 3x4.75M grubauer 5x4.75M leaves us with roughly 2M.

Please note this all options reflect a modest 2.5M increase in the cap to 77.5M.

I'd Risto is moved, as one of the only trades we make, I think it would be for a comparable D. Trouba, Hanifin etc... although I don't think him moving is likely. As stated ^, you don't play a guy 28mins a night if you don't trust him.

Sorry for the many grammar and spelling mistakes. Mobile is a biotch and not going to proof read it because hopefully you get it haha. Also forwards can be shuffled and probably will be as needed. Not saying that Bailey belongs in the 4th or baptiste on the 1st or anything of that nature

In scenario A, I defintely think you can get Reino on a lower AAV bridge deal in the $4M per range.  I dont think thats enough speed with Eichel, JVR + KO cant keep up with him.  I would perhaps switch JVR with Baptiste/Erod in your lineup.  I would like to see one of GIrgs and Larry gone, you didn't mention Wilson in the bottom 6 who I believe is the best bottom 6 player we have currently.  I want nothing to do with Lehner

Scenario B- pipe dream indeed, would be awesome to have JT and Eichel as the top 2 Cs.  I think that RoR and a 2nd is a slight overpayment for Pacioretty, but I would still do it.

    Scenario C- looks good

  14. That wasn't his issue with your post, you have already written of Nylander after a bad injury to start the year which took him all year to recover from.

I'm not saying he is looking good, but writing him of is a bridge to far.   Lets see what he does next year first.

With the Pilut signing our bottom LHD really starting to look good.  Guhle, McCabe , Pilut should make for an interesting fight.

I said the window is closing, didn't write him off yet, but, he's likely on a short leash IMO.

with regards to LHD - Guhle seems to be trending towards being a good NHLer, McCabe is a fine 4-5 d-man and Pilut is still unknown.  Hoping he doesnt become last years Antipin

  15. Not sure what this has to do with defense, but Nylander is 3 years younger then Bailey, Baptiste and Fasching. There are certainly issues with Nylander, but running out of chances do to age isn’t one of them.

i was simply responding to someone else's post that veered off topic from defense in which he mentions those players, my apologies from further veering off the topic of defense.

  16. To paraphrase the kids game, ready or not here they come.

At some point we are going to have to take the training wheels off, stop bringing in the Nolans and Josefsons of the world and let the kids play. Olofsson has speed, was the leading scorer in Sweden and plays around the net. Shouldn’t be to hard for that kind of winger to adjust to NA and we are desperate for scoring. Baptiste has already won a spot and Smith, a Jbot college guy, was the lesding scorer for the Amerks about to be called up until he got hurt. I may be out somewhat out on a limb, but not to far.

Yeah, I hated sending a first in 2015 to Ott for Lehner because of his injury history and taking back a big contract as well. It was and is a huge over payment. Grubauer is a more proven goalie, the first is 2019, another year away, and I kind of look at as Kane for O’Regan, Grubauer and a pick.

All fair points, I think I am not as positive about some of the youngers guys as you are, that's all, but you're right, might as well give them a shot instead of Nolan + Josefson as you say.

I'm just worried that Smith, Baptiste, O'Regan are likely to be AAAA, but, they do deserve a shot, hopefully there arent like Luke Adam redux.

  17. The problem is there aren't many wingers out there...... either they'd require to many assets or they are one dimensional.

I liked my McCabe for Yamamoto deal seeing as I could really see Edmonton biting on that and he's a solid winger prospect.

Vanek is a 1 year guy who has spurts of speed and still scores

Wilson is a solid bottom 6 winger

ERod I really want to see with Eichel

    as for RW

Okposo should bounce back this year to some degree

Reinhart (2nd Half) would be our best winger

Baptiste, speedy who has scoring potential

Pominville & Hendricks, vet presence who sit on the bottom line or in the suites

    Bailey, extra fast guy

Bailey and Baptiste are fast for sure, but, they haven't really shown a whole lot on the NHL level.  They have had their chances, granted on a losing team for years now.  i think the window is close to closing for Baptiste, Bailey, and throw in Nylander, Fasching as well.

  18. No coach is playing a guy 30 minutes who isn't listening. He might bench him a shift or two for stupid mistake. We aren’t trading ROR either. Tell me how we replace them. I also don't think we are making a major trade acquisition. We don't have the assets to trade.

Dahlin and Casey makes the chips fall into place even without a major acquisition.

ERod Eichel Okposo - Toronto uses Connor Brown and Hyman with Matthews

    Olofsson ROR Reinhart

    Smith Mittelstadt Baptiste

    Wilson O’Regan Pominville/Bailey

    Scandella Ristolainen

    McCabe Dahlin

    Pilut Bogo/Nelson

    Baloo Guhle (starts in Roch)

    Grubauer Ullmark

SJ first for Grubauer after SJ re-signs Kane.

That's A LOT of hope in that lineup in which O'Regan, Smith, Baptiste, and Olofsson are ready for full time NHL minutes.

Trade another 1st for a goalie?  Sabres fans would lose their minds at another Lehner(ish) like trade.

  19. That's not enough scoring power on D. To make this team work like it did in 07-10 we need 2 dmen who can put up 20 goals and a few D who can put on 10 goals. We need to acquire another D-man

Fair enough, who do we target? FA or trade? who's the trade bait if its a trade?
