  1. Concering Allen and his low complettion %

Lanny-interesting point that if he threw for 9 more completions on the season, he would've been over 60% completion.

I don't really follow college football much at all beyond marrying into a Buckeye family, so I couldnt tell you who the best QB out there is coming up.  I have read about the various QBs and the pro's/con's, seems like a crapshoot.  Something I thought of recently that may be worth noting about Allen.  He played for Wyoming and i just read that is in Laramie (as I said, I don't follow college FB).  During my active duty time in the Air Force, I actually spent some time in Laramie on temporary duty, I remember it being pretty windy every single day, I mean crazy windy.  I just looked it up, Wyoming is the #1 windiest state in the US and Laramie is one of the top windiest cities in WY.  Is it that Allen's completion % is under 60 because he's truly that bad?  or does the wind at home games perhaps have something to do with that?  I looked at his 2017 stats, his away completion % is about 4 points higher than his home completion %.

Food for thought, Jim Kelly and Dan Marino both had college career completion % under 60%.

So is Josh Allen really that bad?

  2. I admit, I am drinking the Beane and Bills kool-aide.  But some of the things I have read on TBD and Twitter sound eerily familiar.

"Beane is cold and calculated"  "He's not afraid to make the big bold moves" etc etc.

Sounds a lot like what Sabres fans were saying a few years ago about GMTM, in fact some of the quotes are almost verbatim.  I am pretty pleased with the moves, especially Murphy, but McCarron, I am not super thrilled about, as mentioned, he only has a handful more starts than Peterman.  Assuming the Bills move up again and get their top 4 rookie QB, next year could truly be one of those one step backwards to eventually take 3 steps forward.

The biggest thing we have going for us is our defense, was solid last year and they really have made it better, addressed the D-line, our secondary will be among the best again, just need a solid LB in the draft and we are going to have a top 5 defense.

Not to thrilled about the offense though, WR's are still meh and with a rookie, McCarron and Peterman to be our starter, not looking awesome.  will be another year of riding McCoy and now much tread does he have on the tires?

  3. kanes issues have been more behind the scenes lockerroom issues then stuff outside of it. In Winnipeg one of the leaders of the team who IIRC is black or at least part black, was the one taking issue with him, and they haven't had issues with him in Winnepeg. As for Atlanta, I can't picture that city having a racist view of a black player.

As for the comparisons to the other Kane, as I mentioned previously, he is o e of the elite talented players in the league, and his issues are away from the ice, I don't recall hearing problems in the lockerroom from other teammates about him. Teams and media/fans seem more forgiving of issues when the player is of elite talent. Evander has never been in the level of elite NHL talent. If his issues were only off ice stuff and he was elite, teams wouldn't be as hesitant as they are now because his talent may not be enough to overcome a possible disturbance that may happen in the lockerroom.

A team looking to trade for him today is not likely looking at him to fill one of their top spots like a team that would be willing to trade for the other Kane. So it's not fair to compare the 2 and say it's a race issue

But is he really?  You look at his career stats, .6 points per game isnt elite, not in my opinion anyway.  Never above 60 points a season, granted he never plays an 82 game season, and even if he did, his career avg says he'd have 49 points in an 82 pt season.  Elite players can take over a game, or multiple games over a period of time, how many games can we say that Kane has done that?  He's generally a 20 goal scorer, is that the magic number to be considered elite?

The next contract Kane gets will be a vast overpayment, he's borderline worth his current salary, glad GMJB is trying to move on from him.

  4. Everyone is looking at Karlsson and Doughty as big name defenseman who are UFA's after next year.

    More off season ideas.

Is there not interest in Ekman-Larsson, Tyson Barrie or John Carlson?

John Carlson is a UFA this summer and not sure Washington can afford. RD who would push Risto back to second pair.

Tyson Barrie has two years remaining on contract and also would push Risto back to 2nd pairing.

Ekman-Larsson has one more year and would be top LD paired with Risto and push Scandella back to second pairing.

I believe JBotts should either go after Carlson in free agency or get Barrie from Colorado.

Trade #1- Bogo, Larsson and a second round pick to Colorado for Barrie?

Sign Tavares to 10-11 million to team back up with Okposo.

Trade #2 ROR to San Jose for Hertl and 2nd rd pick.

    Trade

Baptiste, Beaulieu, and 3rd for Max Domi from Arizona.

    New Look Sabres for 18-19

    Hertle- Tavares- Okposo

    Domi- Eichel- Reinhart

    Middlestat- Rodrigues- Pomminstein

    Wilson- Girgensons- Bailey

    Scandella- Barrie

    Guhle- Risto

    McCabe- Nelson

    Ullmark

    UFA

Bogo, Larrson and 2nd for Barrie?  What are you smoking bro?  That's a homer trade if i have ever seen one, send them our trash for their treasure.  Not happening

And isnt that a gross overpayment for Domi?

    Tavares wont come here ever.

  5. Nashville opened up last year 3-5-3 in their first eleven games... then proceeded to get to even, but even then struggled to maintain 500... through December....  And the Sabres imo, don't have as much talent...  Gonna take a little time for Bots and Wowie to make this work...  Step back from the cliff.  The D will be better especially once Bogosian gets back.  That being said, they have a long way to go and again put the knives down...

Still see the Sabres lacking in scorers.  But chemistry is gonna take awhile.  Again, it is a 200 foot game Housley preaches and some of these guys are just not use to it.  I hope he is making them run wind sprints in practice... at some point they will get their lungs, but it appears the lack serious stamina other than Kane and maybe the practices are wearing them out right now... it will pay dividends once they get their sea legs...

Absolutely, I was doom and gloom after that sh!tshow on Monday, but, I gave it some more thought.  What more could we have done against Montreal?  We pounded Price with over 40 shots, he's the best goalie in the world.  There could've been some better effort here and there, but on the whole, the game against the Habs was pretty solid.  Obviously we came out flat against the Isles, but we fought back, Eichel made it 5-3 and then we had a goal taken away on what looked like it got over the line and shouldv'e been 5-4 with over a minute remaining with a chance to tie it.  Instead, the goal was disallowed and NY ended up with an empty netter to make it 6-3.  There obviously needed to be better effort the whole game, but its not like they were awful for 60 minutes.  Devils game, yikes, just bad all around.  That being said, that is not the norm whatsoever, there's no way they are that bad.

I may be back on the cliff after the road trip if we only get 2 points out of the possible 8.  we shall see

  6. They never play together though. Just way too many times where two players were not on same page. They are not this bad. The west coast trip will help them

I hope so, because there is a real chance of them being 0-6-1 before the next home game against the Canucks.

  7. The cap hit isn't important. The important part is the salary. Teams just over the cap floor are concerned with actual dollar salaries. Moulson gets a 1mil signing bonus and then 2 mil in salary for his final year if Cap Friendly is right. So you pay his bonus (1mil) and then a team gets a 2million dollar player (actual salary) that counts 5million against the cap. For financially strapped teams (Arizona, Ottawa) moves like this keep them above the floor while saving them money.

I get all that, but, teams would have to be desperate to take on an almost worthless Moulson, that's been my point.  IMO, they can find other vets, pay them a little more in free agency and get a decent return on production than they would with Moulson.  Unless of course, they're willing to eat the salary, take the cap hit to get to the floor AND be willing to have him be a healthy scratch, I guess its possible

  8. Of course every team is over the cap floor. The season literally started yesterday. They had to be. Are they all over the cap floor for 2018? That is the question.

If no team wanted Moulson to get their floor for this season, why would they suddenly want him to get to the floor in 2018?  He'd be another year older, probably will have seen a lot of the press box, and will still carry the same cap hit

  9. Moulson's deal next year will have 1 year left w/ actual out of pocket of $2MM & cap hit of $5MM. To a team w/ an internal cap, that will look enticing, especially if it comes w/ a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

For crying out loud, the Wings got out of Datsyuk's cap hit for a 1st. If THAT can happen, so can a desire by a bad team to have a $2MM PP specialist on a 1 year deal, saving $3MM of actual cash outlay especially when added to a pick that has a reasonable chance of becoming an NHLer be a reality.

I get the point you're making, but, a quick look at teams salary caps, every team is above the cap floor, Arizona and Carolina are close, but, still above the floor.  I am going to stick with my call that no team will be willing to take on Moulson unless we sweeten the deal like crazy.  You make a great point with Datsyuk, but I believe that Arizona was way under the floor, and got a 1st rd pick which they used to get Chychyrun, who will likely be a very good defenseman.

  10. I would hope there is no extension at all for Kane . Rather he have outstanding season he be then used as piece of after Christmas trade as team knows better their needs going forward after a few months with new management, coach and system. I don’t trust his character worthy of large investment . If he plays well he could reap some useful options to help build this team better .

If Kane is having an outstanding season, that would likely indicate a lot of chemistry with Eichel, which would make me believe that the Sabres are doing well, toeing the line of the playoff bubble.  You don't just trade a player like that mid-season or at the deadline.  If his character flaws are such an issue, then why would a team give us "useful options" as you put it?  Wouldn't those teams be afraid of taking him on especially giving up futures?  Richie Incognito had some serious character flaws but the Bills gave him a 2nd chance and I'd say its worked out well.  Kane has stayed out of trouble a while now and if he's clicking with Eichel, then i want to see that pairing for years to come.

  11. Bold predictions

    1) Sabres narrowly miss the playoffs and finish 5th in the Atlantic with 88 pts.  The offense is more dynamic with surprising 3rd line production for Sam and Pommers, but although the D is more active, the Sabres plan many track meet type of games with scores like 5-4, 3-4 etc.... The team scores 225 goals, but allows 230 again.  One reason for the lack of improvement on the back end is injuries again on the back end.  Gorges plays much more often then anyone wants, but Tennyson becomes this years Falk.

    2) Jack scores 40 and adds 50 assists to become the first Sabre since Briere to crack 90 pts.  Sam add 25g 35a from the 3rd center position and gets a 5yr 6 mill per season deal of his trouble in the off-season.

    3) Kane is traded for a 2nd (2018 and conditional 3rd (2019 - becomes a 2nd if he re-signs with new team) at the deadline.  While he manages to stay somewhat healthy and add 20 goals by the deadline, he gets in Housley's dog house of lazy play.  Nylander is recalled to replace him.

    4) Mittelstud wins the HObey Baker and scoring 65 pts leading the Gophers deep into the Frozen Four.  His play and that of Nylander make Kane expendable.

    5) Ullmark has a great season for the Amerks.  Lehner is traded in the off-season for additional LW wing depth and Johnson is re-signed to share the net with Ullmark in  2018-19.

    6) Girgensons has his best season as a Sabres with 20 goals and 20 assists and fills Foligno's old role perfectly.

    7) Antipin plays better then expected and becomes a force on the PP.  He earns a 3 year 9 mill contract.

    8) Bogo is bought out after the season because of injuries and inept play.  Still no takers for Moulson and his 5 goals.  Sabres send him to Roch mid-season.

I don't know if i would classify all of these as bold predictions to be honest, they're very positive and optimistic, but i wouldn't say bold.

You do have a couple bold statments, I think Reinhart having 60 pts on the 3rd line is bold, so you get that one for sure and Girgensons having 40 pts is also quite bold.

  12. Bogo?? You kidding me?

yeah that kind of through me for a loop too, perhaps he has been a leader at practice and PH liked what he saw in him?

yeah that kind of through me for a loop too, perhaps he has been a leader at practice and PH liked what he saw in him?

And whats with four A's, how does that work?  does one person not wear one each game?

  13. Moulsons actually dollar value is less then his cap. If a team wants to get to the cap floor, they could trade for Moulson.

it's possible but unlikely.  I was positive we could've figured out a way to get Vegas to take Moulson off our hands to get to the floor and even they didn't bite.  IMO, if a team wants to get to the floor, they will throw a contract at an older vet who still has something left in the tank.  It sucks because i had the chance to meet Moulson and he's an awesome guy, but, i think that his career might be over soon.  he might get some one year deals here and there, thats about it though
