    I'm in your camp. He pots a lot of goals but I think the financial burden of his upcoming contract will handcuff the franchise. We are trying to build a perennial contender like Chicago and LA. That takes a couple superstars (Eichel, ROR, Samson, Risto and perhaps this years draft pick) and a roster of above average mid-low cost talent (also known as over achievers). The Stamkos contract will make keeping Eichel, Sam, Risto and Laine (I hope) more difficult because all these guys are going to want to get paid. The Sabres also already tried buying talent and that lead to the tank years. Is it me or does Stammer always looks stoned? I don't want Jack picking any bad habits.

    I asked this question in yesterday's game thread (and I'm not interested in reading 12 pages of comments so I apologize if it's already been discussed), if Buffalo wins the lottery, do they take Matthews or one of the Finns. I personally would take Laine for reasons mentioned above on his ability to finish and the Sabres lack of talents wingers. I don't get the post referring to Matthews as a "Manziel" like character. I have no issues with Matthews going to play hockey in the Swiss league. He knows he's making a living playing hockey, why f*ck around with college and have to take meanness classes or go to OHL and have to play against boys. The ideal scenario would be Buffalo with the #1 pick and AZ at #2. TM could potentially get an asset from AZ and trade down a spot perhaps package someone not in our long term plan for OEL. It's a wet dream but that's what this thread is about.

    True, I disagree. He's been OK. He's not stealing games. He looks shaky in the shootout. As I posted above, his reaction time seems slow most likely due to his size. I'm just not sold on the guy and I don't see him as the #1. Johnson is better IMO.

    3-0 right where we want them. I'm sure the team in front of Lehner isn't helping him out but I'm not sold on him as the #1. His reaction time looks slow. He loses sight of the puck often (especially when it's in his skates). The body of work is small and he's back from injury but I've been more impressed with Johnson. I hope that we have a future #1 in the system for when Jack and Sam hit their stride in 3-4 years.

    If Buffalo wins the lottery, do they take Matthews (consensus #1) and create a log jam at center or go with Laine and fill a position of need? I agree we are very weak at wing.
