  1. I think the answer to this may just be that Cam Ward and Scott Darling are terrible. That’s what Bales had to work with in 17-18. Neither one is in the NHL any longer.
  2. Bogo wasn’t a bad hockey player, when healthy. It’s been so long since I’ve seen him really healthy though that I don’t even know what that looks like anymore. He is big, physical, and a really good skater. He has a hard shot and can make the simple pass. He also somewhat mistake prone. All in all he is a guy you can use in your bottom 4 and PK. Or he was at least.
  3. Not saying he wouldn’t still be a fit for Buffalo. I think he could be.
  4. Toffoli is a RW, innit?
  5. Yeah, modern goaltending coaches not only work with goaltenders on technique, but also with coordination between goalies and D on how to play specific situations so goalies will know what the D will do, helping them know how to best position themselves.
  6. Mike Bales. Yeah, I think he is good.
  7. Probably, but you never know for sure how things like this will turn out.
  8. Sounds like Thompson or Cozens longer term, but maybe they pick someone up to fill that hole near the trade deadline.
  9. Sooo, I see some people being kind of negative about the team after last nights game. As if the clouds of gloom and inevitable failure are sweeping overhead. I just want to point out a few things. That was their 6th game in 10 days. 5 of those 6 were on the road. 3 of those 5 were on a west coast road trip. Also it was the 2nd of back to back road games. Situations like this can help to result in uneven play. Especially for this team, which is not some powerhouse stacked with top talent, despite the early season results. Few even thought this was a playoff team before the season started. A couple games ago, after beating San Jose at home everything was hunky dorrey, and now the sky is falling? After a 2-0 win no less? Its going to be ok everyone. Deep breaths. This team isn’t going to win 65 games, they never were, but they still have a high chance of making the playoffs.
  10. Yes to both. Both are a work in progress.
  11. They came out slow in the 1st, but were better after that. The schedule has been tough lately.
  12. Olofsson making adjustments on the PP
  13. Miller-Gilmour pair that shift?
  14. I think the book on Buffalo right now is to forecheck them hard and see if they can handle it and still execute the breakout. They’ve had a hard time with aggressive forechecks so far this season it seems.
  15. Sabres passing has been an issue the past couple games.
  16. Sheary with a unique cute move. Looked like it almost worked.
  17. Gilmour looks alright.
  18. How about a PP goal here to get some momentum
  19. Looks like Skinner is still pissed from yesterday
  20. What? ixG is not individual expected goals? I’m not understanding you.
  21. ixG is the expected goals for an individual player. The graph is showing how many expected goals the players have accumulated so far this season.
  22. It’s not a prediction, it’s the season results so far.
  23. I think the units are just goals.
  24. This is incorporated into the xG stat. It’s how many goals you should expect to score, or surrender, based on the number AND quality of the shots taken, with average shooting and save percentages. So it’s generally going to undervalue guys who have elite shot releases, who are scoring at a higher than normal rate on their shots. It also does not account for goaltending by design. Its a measure of how the team is playing overall, but elite shooters/goaltending can create goals/make saves that had no business happening, and that can overcome poor team play at times.
