All of last February?

My expectation is for a team that I can root for and not feel guilty over a win or a smirk over a loss. This is a young team, they'll grow together. Using hockey cliches, I want a team that plays with grit, works hard in the dirty areas, has a high level of compete, and is tough to play against. I expect a few bumps in the road, especially early on. But by late December early January, this team will be much more cohesive. I will enjoy watching this team grow, knowing that these guys are going to be MY guys for the foreseeable future. No more fire sales, or trying not to get attached to guys I know are going to be moved. I can become emotionally attached to players, not laundry. Sabres Hockey will be fun to watch again.

What I really appreciate is that GMTM is a chess player who sees the whole board. He had an intricate plan, and stuck to it. When he traded for Kane, Winnipeg got our last first round pick. He left nothing to chance. He was paying attention to the last bit of detail. He used pick 21 to get the goalie he wanted. Then in a press conference about that trade, he casually mentions that the guy he wants will be available at 31. 31 (and other players) turned out to be ROR. He sees the whole board. Sacrifice a rook to take the queen? Not a problem. Any of the moves by themselves and you think, eh... < shrug shoulders >. But put the whole board together, and you look at it and go, Oooooh!! I have no idea if we'll win the cup in 3 - 5 years, but I respect GMTM the player.

Hoss, I'd flip Reinhart and Gionta. I'd hate to see 2 rookies on the same line. Eventually, move back Reinhart to 3rd center, and put Girgensons on the Eichel line. What is fun is finally thinking about a roster with actual NHL caliber players and pondering about which combinations work best.

I think GMTM is willing to make moves, but as I recall, a boat load of 2's last year couldn't get him back into the first in last years draft.

First time poster, long time lurker. This board IS different from other sports boards because hockey is so different from other sports. Regular posters are on here talking about 18 year old draft-able kids who play different Canadian junior leagues, US college players, and European leagues. (Should we get the Russian goalie from a league I've never heard of, or is the undersized defenseman who can qb our power play the better deal?) I enjoy the scouting reports you all give. I have no idea if you are right or wrong. But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the discussion. Over the last 4 drafts now, this is where I go to learn about the kids we draft. But I cannot add to the discussion, because I got nothin'. The other reason I don't post is because by the time I read a topic and actually do have something to add, some one beats me to it. That's fine, the point was made. I do see a lot of give and take from the regular posters here, and by and large, I enjoy reading the banter. I 'get' how the board works. Truthfully, I think this board is pretty well self managed by the mods and regulars. As was pointed out earlier, some people use the anonymity of message boards to act in a way that they would never do face to face. I go waaaay back to the early days of the franchise. So being older I don't feel the need for name calling if someone posts something I disagree with. Nor, do I feel the need to chime in with an emoticon if some one says something brilliant. It's not who I am. But I do sit back, read every page of thread that intrigues me, and smile a lot. ​Thanks for asking. Now where can I get a chicken hat, and is it too late for a Russian name?
