This league sucks. These losers just spent 48 hours together in the same building and did almost nothing

Wasn't really counting but seemed to me quite  few trades leading up to the draft. Talent in draft after top say five was pretty even so nobody was spending capital to move up although KA said he inquired about moving up or down.

I wish that was true with everything. Every point of view, every opinion, every lifestyle, every race, every social class, every political stripe, and every religion. There is massive amounts of intolerance and ignorance if someone doesn’t think the way “you” think. For everything and everywhere. In every country around the planet. And has gone on more or less since the dawn of time. And I will take an educated stab at it and say it will continue on long after we are all dead.

All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

So why don't we just keep our politics ,our religious views, our sexual views off of jerseys ect. I come to sports to escape this. It has zero to due with tolerance or intolerance.

The fanbase has been waiting for a decade for playoffs so we have something to cheer for and the players deserved it and a out of shape Greenway was the answer.

     That's unacceptable

Could you name on thing about the team that is acceptable? I frankly don't know how the current build will go but the past two seasons under KA have been positive with a few exceptions. This young group of core players is a positive sign. Goalkeeper I wish they had upgraded last off season was a disappointment. Beyond that I'm not disappointed in where we've improved this roster.

  5. Interested in this thread. Presently I have Roku. Watch Sabres through Spectrum App at a cost of $158/monthly. Expect big hike in Fall to close to $200/monthly. Must have channels to keep wife and I both happy seem to rule out dropping Spectrum. Ugh! Oh, live in Western New York I should add. The cost includes internet service.

I always enjoy your perspectuve @PASabreFan  so I decided to replay the interview.

I am not sure that Warrow tried to troll anyone or anything.   Adams might think otherwise.

Warrow is just a clumsy guy that asked a legitimate question in a clumsy way.  Asking this particular GM to "guarantee" the payoffs next year was not a smart question.   He should know by now who he is interviewing.   The very first question (maybe by Benini) stated that upon talking to the players the universal theme is playoffs next year, and the bar should now be higher in the future  - and Adams agreed with it and enthusiastically provided commentary on it.  Done.

Along comes Warrow.   He means to ask a legitimate question, something like  "what is the next step for this team and how do you take it" would have been good.  Instead he throws in words like guarantee and assurance.   Adams got a bit defensive and he lost some composure, so he asked for a re-do on the question.  Warrow comes back even worse, asking if the season was a "lost opportunity", and Adams comes back with "I cannot disagree with you more".

Adams then completely turns it around, and his response is basically more time to foot stomp his opening message - which ends with long term sustained success as the goal.    Classic maneuver by Adams, in public speaking whenever a question gets uncomfortable you take things back to the key messages that you want out there, and you reinforce those key messages and end the question positively.

What I saw and heard is a really smart guy (Adams) that knows how to speak publicly and is confident in what he says.  In contrast, Warrow is mediocre in his role.  I don't think Warrow was trolling.  His coverage of the Buffalo Sports teams and his writing is for The AP and mostly ok.  He certainly lacks polish and after that presser we can question his preparation too.

Agree. Trolling no but his comment on a wasted season (opportunity) was as I said his statement and opinion framed as a question that almost was so convoluted KA didn't know how to respond. Warrow you would think in his profession (?) could at least be able to articulate better. Well he's talking to the base so to speak but doing it rather poorly at that.

There's the troll slur. For a perfectly legit question of commitment to winning over development.

Also... It's not a promise of making the playoffs that's the issue. It's a substantive statement that the franchise has done the work to pass through a doorway and into a room where other NHL franchises exist.

Stupid statement framed as a question. Use whatever term Warrow played to his audience which seems to include you in this case.

Here is what I came away with from those two press conferences.

    1. Our media have no idea how to ask a question.

    2. The playoffs are the goal next season. That’s what the players want and that’s what DG/KA believe.  My impression is KA is not sure how to fix the issues without straying from his core principal of draft and develop.

    3.  KA knows the defense needs fixing, but still thinks Joki is in the mix.  They did say that some players didn’t step up like they would have hoped when the Samuelsson went down and as Dahlin played through injuries.  Hopefully this means those players will be replaced.  Personally I thought Joki didn’t step up.

    4. One or two forward spots will be opened to make room for Rousek and Savoie.  Adams was very clear that when prospects are ready they’ll be in Buffalo.  To me that means it could happen organically with Z and KO choosing not to come back or moving VO out and not re-signing Jost.

    5. Goaltending.  Levi is part of the tandem next season.  For reasons not visible to fans, Marty Biron, the media or any interested observer, KA/Dg still think UPL has a future as an NHL netminder and he might very well share the net with Levi.

    6. KA brought up NJs improvement, but doesn’t seem inclined to take the same steps they did.  This is disappointing consider the steps they took were mostly to add quality D.

    7. KA understands that once he locks up Dahlin and Power he’s going to have cap challenges, which is why he is overly cautious about vet additions. However, I don’t think he can fix the issues with the Sabres without doing what NJ did on defense. Adding another Lyubushkin won’t fix the problem.

    8. If there are changes on the coaching staff Bales won’t be one of them.  He was specifically mentioned for his excellent work.

Overall there wasn’t much specific to glean from these press conferences other than they are happy with the direction of the club and happy with how the season went overall and think they should be a playoff caliber team next year.  The status quo roster I posted seems to be very much in play.

Pretty much read the news conferences the same as you. Do think he's going to be open to look outside for defense. Yoki will be here but expect additions below him or to maybe push him down even. Expect unless something unexpected happens Levi and UPL will be top two going in unless there's a trade.

So my take on GMKA is when he got here he was faced with a perennial losing team, that had bad culture who no one wanted to play for, and an underwhelming pipeline towards the future.

Another GM might have come in and just done what they could to make the playoffs now, it has been over 10 years after all and fans are impatient. Or they could try to fix the fundamental problems of the franchise at the cost of a longer rebuild. I think he's gone a long way towards fixing the fundamental problems.

I can't say for sure, but I doubt he thinks we'll be a perennial team just from home grown talent, but having a good pipeline of young talent and the ability to develop them properly is important to offset the big contracts you have to pay to your vets. He talked a bit about a guy on his staff who is really good at salary projections, so he's factoring all of that into his plans.

He talked in the presser about how they've been handling the cap so far, and that they are moving into "the next phase" of cap management, which I think we've already started to see with Thompson, Cozens and Samuelson. I expect to see something with Dahlin and hopefully Power soon.

We won't really know if he's delusional about being a perennial playoff team until we're a few years down the road. Given the additions he's made so far, I think he'll be willing to bring in the "right" Free Agents.

However, I'm not sure that will matter. Unless we win the cup every few years, there will be some portion of the fanbase that will be unhappy. You can ask the Bills how well being a perennial playoff team has gone for them. I've never seen so many people angry we still haven't won the super bowl rather than just enjoying the fact that we have a great team again.

I'm not trying to tell other folks how to feel, but as much as I want a cup, it's a long season. I want to enjoy the whole season, not just put all my joy on the final outcome. That's a recipe for disappointment.

I do hope we get to a point where we're trying to capitalize on the window of our young talent and manage to finally win a cup, but I don't think next season is the year to do that yet.

Interesting. Good post. I do think there is much more emphasis today on winning a championship as opposed to enjoyment of having a good winning team that may not get to or win a Super Bowl or Stanley Cup. I sense there is a more significant group of fans who it's more all or nothing. Maybe It's just me. I'm eighty years old and followed the Bills and Sabres from their inception and that's my perception but forums are probably not necessarily a good indicator of the total fan base either.

I expect DG and KA to say…playoffs are the goal and missing them will be unacceptable, no excuses!

Well, I think they do think playoffs are the goal. In fact he said he was disappointed not getting to the playoffs. He didn't bite on Warrows take of it being a lost or whatever season. Guess it's how he says it wasn't satisfactory for you and that's fine.
