I don't see the 'complaint Thursday' thread anywhere, so its going here its about MSG/Spectrum.

Right now we don't have MSG. Yes, I'm in my 40s and I can afford it, but I'm cheap. I don't like paying for things we don't use often or overpaying. We have the spectrum 'choice' package (and currently on a promotion) where you can pick among channels. We get the basics (ABC, Fox, nbc, etc) and cable channels we actually watch. Espn. Espn2, cnbc, cnn, weather channel, usa, tbs, tnt and a few others. BUT, you cannot add MSG to this package.

Anticipating Sabres season I contacted spectrum last month. I did the 'chat' online thing. The person I got, had NO idea how to get MSG for me. I explained to them I know I needed a different 'tier' of channels in my package, but after she couldn't find it she told me it wasn't available in my area. I ASSURED her it was, waited almost 15 minutes while she kept on looking up, and then just gave up.

Well, today I called Spectrum.  Was only hold for 10 minutes (not too bad) and spoke to a woman who was friendly. Told her I had the "choice' package and wanted to upgrade to get MSG. She couldn't find the channel. She asked me if I was sure it was called MSG. I said yes. I told her my parents were subscribers of Spectrum cable and they had it, she kept on telling me "I'm still here but I'm still looking for it".  I told her it is (or at least used to be) channel 28 in my area.  Finally, she found it and told me the only way to get it was to 'upgrade' to a new channel tier (I really REALLY wanted to tell her that is what I told HER almost 30 minutes ago but I didn't). I said how much more would it cost me compared to my current bill.  It was almost $50 more a month (high $40's plus whatever extra tax would be).  I asked if there was any promotion, any package, any bundle available to me. No she said, nothing. She could set me up with the new package but it would be for almost $50 per month extra.

So, No live  Sabres games at home for me. I watch most games either by a neighbor down the street who loves having company for games, sometimes at my parents house (but they live almost 30 minutes away), at a bar or restaurant, or if I miss one I watch the replay 2 days later on Hulu/ESPN plus.

But as per my prior post, the NHL and Spectrum make it SO DIFFICULT to watch their games on TV, I really don't get it. And how exactly does Spectrum have customer service agents (2 I dealt with) that don't know how to get MSG to their customers, or don't even know what it is?  Good luck going to their website trying to add it or figure it out, they basically hide everything and get you to call them (its one of the worst customer websites I have ever dealt with, maybe only 2nd worse to treasurydirect if you want to buy a government bond)

I have Spectrum the cost is $59.99 monthly. I get msg. What are they quoting you and are you an existing customer?

Ulmark was inconsistent in Buffalo. Many had doubts about him as a #1 goaltender. His Vezna is at least as much a reflection of the team defense as it is a reflection of his goaltending in my opinion. Frankly not sure many wouldn't have questioned us signing him for the contract Boston did.

….and that is why Skinner is making $9 mill per season.  Of course the one guy we needed to lock up and didn’t is the Vezina winning goalie for Boston.

I am glad this is done, but if Power doesn’t quickly develop into a 50 pt guy who is at least decent in his own end, this contract is an over payment.

I like Ulmark but most good goalies can look great in Boston.

I don't understand why you keep distilling the argument down to Bill Clinton levels. The argument is that these people lacked sound judgement in A) complying with the terms of their hiring, and B) an area that is presently socially charged where failure to be mindful of this reality can unnecessarily distract and/or damage the company.

As I tried to explain earlier, poor judgement in such an obvious and easy to process situation likely means poor judgement in less obvious and more difficult situations. Violating the terms of your contract violates trust. Dig? You simply can not have people you can't fully trust being responsible for the well-being of a high-profile, billion dollar plus enterprise.

As someone who before retirement hired people for my own business and for other businesses I can't say every hire turned out to be the right hire. Someone's moral character particularly unless some known thing is not determined easily. Frankly it's very easy to be anonymously judgemental of others. This sports forum should stick to sports dialogue.

I just hope that the benching at the end of last season alarmed Olofsson enough that he doesn't take his position on the roster for granted, and his placement on the second line inspires him to play up to that level.  Somehow I don't think Cozens and Peterka will tolerate a passenger on their line.

I would switch him with Benson but that's just me. VO is a great shot on PP that's his game in total. Third line I'd be okay with for now until Quinn gets back.

I'm not sure there were goalies out there to be had. Pretty much all the FA goalies stayed put. And the 2 being that were reported of being on the trade market didn't go anywhere.

Defenders I'm not sure what options we had in free agency. Really I'm just not sure if we mostly stayed put because they aren't being allowed to spend like the Bills, they are expecting to need the cap space to pay our upcoming players, or simply because they didn't find anyone they liked for the price it would cost.

Time will tell if  that comes back to haunt them or not

I'm in agreement. Not sure what options were available. What the costs would be. Suppose we traded our #1 that turned out to be Benson or one of our top three prospects for someone. Well we'd no doubt have opinions on the wisdom of that. It's not easy and I assume they looked at whatever options were out there.

Do they? I'm not convinced either knows all that much any more.

If I knew more maybe I would have such a position. Are they the best amount peers? Probably not but probably not the worst either. I do understand your questioning and frustration and share it.

As much as I like Dahlin and Power neither should be getting $10 million. They should be paid under Makar and Fox. Dahlin still needs a lot of work in his own end and Power is way too young and hasn’t proven much to demand a big contract.

Whether I think they should or not due you really think no other team will give Dahlin 10 million?

So let me get this straight, they're keeping all 3 goalies and Bryson? wtf???

    This franchise remains a joke.

Frankly I understand fans not thinking Bryson is not that good. Compare him to who he he was chosen over and you can make a case for keeping him. Once we start choosing a whipping boy it has a life of its own. Let's face it when it comes down to the final cut probably none of them don't have weaknesses in their games. I've followed this team since the franchise was awarded and don't remember a year we weren't whipping someone. My pick would have been Stillman but I'm not at daily practices and I don't know these players ad I assume our coaches do. I love playing GM or head coach but I'm not either and there is a reason I'm not. Both Granato and Adams know more than I do. I understand as a fan I have opinions opinions but some seem so sure they know more than the coaches and GM and frankly we don't.

I am concerned about the goaltending for obvious reasons - a rookie and two unproven backups is a high risk situation.

Only slightly concerned about the defensive players because the pairings will be tweaked until DG finds the optimal combinations.  Talent wise we have some very good players on the blue line.

Very concerned about “the system” when it comes to playing defense and protecting a lead.  This includes the play of the forwards.

This seems defensively we're looking more at coaching than the players. Unless the players aren't fitted to the system. I tend to think it's coaching/system.

    Garbage.

Fast wide open hockey from two teams that prefer to play wide open hockey but that's not how you beat the Leafs.

I was not impressed with anybody on the Sabres. UPL was garbage. I see zero progression from last year. It's time to move on from Olofsson. Garbage. Power looked like his age making several mistakes and showing he still has learning to do. Kisikov needs to learn to shoot not just pass. Maybe that's a Russian training thing, always playing for the absolutely perfect shot. idk, but he has learning to do.

I think we threw one hit in the entire game and got a bs penalty for it. They didn't throw any either. Soft hockey on both sides.

Honestly, two games now, I'm seeing troubling signs of same old problems, but it is early and these are iffy line ups. Wait to see how we look with Clifton, Johnson, and more regulars before worrying.

Agree. VO is definitely replaceable. Also two preseason games with a mix of different players does not settle much in my view of this team. I still a m concerned with goaltending until proven otherwise.
