Do You Like The JJP for Kesselring/Doan Trade RIGHT NOW?
jad1 replied to bob_sauve28's topic in The Aud Club
Like the players, but hate the trade for so many reasons. Pretty much par for the course for the Adams reign-of-error. -
I don't know about this. Peterka is only 23. Guys like Eichel and Reinhart have proven that a player can continue to grow immensely after they are 23. If you really want to build a team from within, it requires more than just drafting well. You need to create the right infrastructure and build the right culture to develop young players. A undeniable argument can be made that Adams has completely failed at building this infrastructure. Peterka at 26 could be a much different player than he is at 23. Sadly, the Sabres have no idea how to support that development under their current GM.

Kesselring has averaged around 17 minutes a night over his short NHL career. Power has averaged around 22 minutes. Kesselring needs to prove he can handle top 4 minutes. If Adam's intention is for Kesselring to be Power's partner, the gamble here is similar to the one he took when he signed Clifton.

Kevyn Adams pre draft press conference and shenanigans festival
jad1 replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
When asked what excited him about Jarmo, Adams answered that Jarmo wants to work and is a good person. He wants to work. Not that he brings new ideas to the table, or that he has key connections to other organizations, or that he brings a wealth of knowledge to scouting other NHL players or prospects. He wants to work. Basically the same thing you would say about an 18 year old working at a McDonalds to make money to buy an Xbox. Who has any confidence that Adams has any idea how to make use of Jarmo on the staff? -
Matthew Fairburn Latest Article regarding Terry Pegula and Adams
jad1 replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Beane tried to move up to 5 and had a deal set with the Broncos before Elway backed out to draft Chubb. If Cleveland drafted Chubb instead of Ward, the Broncos would have made the deal and Beane would have taken Allen at 5. So Terry did nothing to hold the Bills at 7. -

It's relevant to the Sabres because it shows that a strong GM can thrive under Pegula. It means that if Pegula would pull his head out his ass and fire Adams and get lucky in hiring his replacement, the Sabres could be a successful franchise again. -

The Bills are good because Beane targeted Allen (who had MANY detractors) and made a series of deals to move up 14 spots to draft him. He didn't need a tank to draft Allen, as the Bills ended their 17 year playoff drought the season before. And Allen isn't the only good player Beane's drafted or acquired, and he is a key contributor to the excellent culture the team possesses. In other words, the Bills are good because they have a good GM. -
Sabres looking for Senior Advisor for Adams and Hockey Department
jad1 replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
The reason for existence for the Buffalo Sabres has devolved from winning the Stanley Cup to training Kevyn Adams on how to be the GM of an NHL team. -
Eric Staal hired as a special assistant to Kevyn Adams
jad1 replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
He played 32 games for the Sabres, and it was 32 games too many. Guy had absolutely no interest in being here. Of course our sh#t GM doubles-down on that and hires him onto his staff. -
Not surprising. Adams admitted that he didn't know where Byram fit in when he traded for him. Kev has no plan to build a competitve roster aside from gathering shiny nickels.
-
If it's Sabres-related, I watch. Doesn't mean I'm happy that they've gotten VIP seating at this consolation prize clown show the last 14 years.
-
Who knows? How long before Sabres fans can just ignore this over-engineered sh#t show? Kev gets his lottery loyalty card punched for the fifth time tonight. Does that get him his free sundae?
-
Let's stop trying to cast JBot as some kind of hero or martyr. The organization and scouting department he built was a failure. He made a terrible coaching decisions. He deserved to be fired, even with Adams whispering in Pegula's ear that he could do a better job.
-
If they haven't named him captain yet, they're doing it wrong.
-
I should have used the word 'young.'
-
Quinn, Power, Samuelsson, Byram was 23 this year. Kulich spent a lot of time at 1C, he's not a heavy player. And this isn't new, it's been the case the last 5 years. Cozens tries to play a heavy game, but he wasn't good at it. He was 24 this year. The Sabres are built to play an open ice game. When the opposing team plays a 'road game' and takes away space, they struggle. They need more guys who can play in a tight-checking game. Doesn't mean you trade all the 'finesse' guys for grinders. You also need finesse guys to win. It just means the GM needs to do a better job with roster construction.
-
How about everybody but Tuch, Tucker, Dahlin, Malenstyn, McLeod, Peterka, Clifton, and Benson. Greenway, when he plays. I might be generous here with McLeod and Peterka. And Clifton and Greenway aren't anything special as players.
-
Adams? Nah, wormtongue will spin it to get a few more years from Terry.
-
Don't know if the team is allowed to organize that in the off-season. The players would need to take it upon themselves to do it, hence the comments encouraging to do so from management. That said, the problem wasn't conditioning this year, the problem was roster construction and players too young to play outside their character. If you draft a bunch of finesse players and throw them on the ice at 21 or 22 years old, they're going to play like a finesse team. Telling them to lift weights isn't going to change that.

The secondary scoring on those Eichel/ Reinhart teams was terrible.
