  1. I'm going to go against the grain and say that Pegula does clean house after the season. Both of his previous GM firings were a surprise, and before he canned Krueger, some were lining him up for an executive job. But Terry swung the ax. He's actually good at firing people. Sucks at hiring them, but excels at firing them. As for the new COO, hopefully he's contemplating WWJD (what would Jordan do).
  2. Watch the defensive zone coverage, power play strategy, and the opposing zone net-front presence. Coaching is the problem.
  3. It should convince the owner he needs a new GM.
  4. They're probably going to be younger next season by replacing Jost, Girgensons, Comrie, Olofsson, and Bryson. The Sabres started the season with an average age of 26. They are now at an average age of around 25. Anyway, here are the 10 youngest teams in the league right now: Sabres, Coyotes, Blue Jackets, Senators, Canadiens, Ducks, Devils, Blackhawks, Flyers, Blues. The only team in that group in playoff position is the Flyers. Their average age is 27. Two years older than the Sabres' average age. Trying to create the youngest roster in the league is a dumb way to build a team, because as we've witnessed, a young player's developmental progression is not linear. Look at Thompson, Middlestadt, Cozens, Power, and even Dahlin. The Sabres inconsistency can be attributed to the large number of players experiencing this non-linear growth. Adams needs to go. 4 years of his plan, no playoffs, and the Sabres are still the youngest team in the league, where being young brings no advantage.
  5. Sabres 22nd overall in the league. They might have some good players on the roster, but they are a bad team.
  6. They know they have to win, they just have no idea how to win. This annual rush to futility should highlight the need to fire the front office and coaching staff. Sabres do have something going on, they just need better management/coaching to draw it out.
  7. Well the sense of urgency has only been around for 10 of 40 games this season. So it makes sense.
  8. Maybe he's a veteren who is learning how to win.
  9. When has KO ever been a veteren who 'knows how to win?'
  10. The Sabres weren't trying to make three goalies work, they were trying to make one goalie, Levi, work. Adams (and Granato) took a huge risk trying to make a 22 year old rookie their starter this season, instead of sending him to Rochester to develop. When Levi faltered, they turned to Comrie, who was injured or sucked, depending on the day. That forced them turn to UPL, who was shaky at best last season, but he was only 23 for most of that year. The vast majority of goalies are not ready to be NHL starters at 23. Miller, Ullmark and Hasek weren't #1 goalies until they were older than 25. So instead of trusting UPL's development as a 24 year old, Adams and Granato went with Levi. It was a cluster#### of a decision that will probably cost the Sabres a playoff spot this season.
  11. I think that's happening now. Sabres are 5th worse in average attendance and 2nd worse in % capacity. The fans are doing their part in staying away.
  12. I'm sure there's another left handed, puck-moving defenseman out there that he has his eye on.
  13. Sabres are easy to shut down. It's easy to keep them away from the crease because they are content to play on the perimeter.
  14. He's easily the Sabres MVP this season.
  15. This team is way too weak on the puck.
  16. Who knows? The goal might be to dress 8 left shot defensemen every night.
  17. Coaching and roster construction.
  18. So what is Byram's role on this team? PP1 QB? PP2 QB? PK1? Is he better than the two #1 overall picks the Sabres have on the roster, who can't be teamed together? He's the 6th puck-moving defenseman on the roster. Does a team really need that many puck moving defensman? He's 22. The 5th defenseman on the roster who is under 25. The Sabres will be the youngest team in the league next year, again. This roster is not built with a purpose (players filling roles that support a system). It's just a collection of repetitive high-end skill sets thrown together in hopes that "development" will result in winning. Problem is, nobody has any clue what this team is trying to develop into.
  19. Roster just became more of a mess.
  20. Watching Matt Ellis draw out a play on the bench is disturbing, to say the least.
  21. Rounding up, winning 2 out of 3 the rest of the season gets them to 88 points.
  22. The Sabres could lose 150 more games by the time Power turns 25.
  23. Like he needs an excuse to run it back. 😉
  24. We're really not. This team doesn't play the game right. They are weak in front of the net in both zones. They don't play a 200 ft game. They are terrible on special teams. They are the youngest team in a league that does not reward youth; and they are getting younger. Several of the vets brought in to add experience to the lineup are in Rochester. They're not strong on the puck and are not hard to play against. This team needs a fundamental shift in its direction.
  25. A lot. His best quality is his willingness to pay bad coaches after firing them. His worst quality is his inability to hire a good coach. And if you are worried about Terry's ability to pay fired coaches, don't. Terry could pay the salary of every fired coach in every major sport and it wouldn't even form a small dent in his fortune.
