  1. My guess is we will continue to see venue size shrink, suite and premier seats increase, sportsbooks taking root in stadiums and arenas, sales and relocations involving private equity money outpacing any realistic forecast of worth, and more and more fans telling you how it’s better to just watch at home in front of their 70” screens.
  2. My rough math for worst case scenarios based on purchase price and estimated current value is a tax bill of $920M on a profit of $2.3B. Selling 25% at the same prices nets a tax bill of $550M. The below article details our tax implications for owning sports franchises. I think it’s safe to say nobody needs to feel any sympathy for the Pegula’s tax bills. https://minnesotareformer.com/2021/07/15/the-billionaire-playbook-how-sports-owners-use-their-teams-to-avoid-millions-in-taxes/
  3. I don’t know if you meant this to be funny but I laughed
  4. I recommend everyone read Capital in the 21st Century. It really changed my perspective on estate tax.
  5. I could be mistaken on this but hasn’t Terry been vocal about bringing private equity into the NFL?
  6. That’s great for Jon Cooper, I love his story. Terry already spent multiple hires trying to look like a genius and hire the next big thing. It didn’t work with Housley. It didn’t work with Krueger. It didn’t work with Granato. Everyone wants the next big thing. We don’t have the luxury of that want anymore.
  7. Good post all around, but this especially. Those interviews made it plenty clear he brought little to nothing to the table.
  8. There was never any reason to bring keep Zemgus and I hope to god he’s gone. He’ll be out of the league in two years just like Larsson was.
  9. I believe I saw this will all continue under the roadrunners branding
  10. Yeah who is he, Zemgus Girgensons?! /s Prove it deals are cheap, not an extra $1m+ per season.
  11. I don’t believe the rumor whatsoever but I would 100% roll the dice over a relocation that is almost certainly never going to happen to get a new owner.
  12. Quotes like this are up there with the most embarrassing experiences of the drought imo. Just a complete joke of a season from day zero.
  13. 100%. It’s time to reconnect the franchise with its roots.
  14. I remember it being much more divisive than the board let’s it on to be. It replaced buffalos charging through the city and Sabres Dance. Like others said, it’s also depressing as *****.
  15. Shut it, Manfred. You’ve already taken a hammer to baseball, leave hockey alone!
  16. Maybe that would help them…come together.
  17. I didn’t like Dahlin’s interview whatsoever. I wanted to hire Gallant after Vegas canned him. Tuch reinforced that for me.
  18. Thank you, I appreciate you sending this.
  19. Was this not the messaging last season? Every summer this needs to be the message.
  20. I mean this with the utmost sincerity—what noteworthy humanitarian contributions has he made to the community? I’m not on the twitter so I don’t see the Sabres marketing about this and I don’t remember seeing other posts. Im not doubting any of his contributions, I’d simply like to learn more of them.
  21. What? He had Dominik Hasek. Ted Nolan had success with Hasek, is he a good coach? What group of players do you think he got more out of than another coach could have? Was his Hasek teams markedly better than Nolan’s? I didn’t say he wasn’t a good coach, I said at no point was he considered a top 5 coach in the league. Maybe I’m mistaken, but I don’t really think that’s a debate. Give me the belle of the ball. Your main point cuts both ways. Lindy was able to stick around as long as he did because of the penny pinching. His win number is inflated because of that and then people point to his win total and say SEE! I also don’t remember him being in any particular demand after he was fired. His perception in Buffalo is outsized compared to the rest of the hockey world. The last point, I don’t really see it being applicable. Lindy didn’t do anything special on a shoestring budget. Hasek is Hasek. He had success with Drury and Briere. So you have ‘98 loss to the Caps, ‘99 loss to the Stars, ‘06 loss to the Canes, and ‘07 loss to the Sens. There’s our successful (HA) seasons since 1998. Many coaches could have gotten those same results. Lindy would get more out the team than DG did. There are coaches available who can get more from this team than Lindy. Give me them.
  22. I really don’t think Lindy was ever a great coach. I understand he won a Jack Adams, but at no point in time, in my memory at least, was he considered a top-5 coach in any respect. I also don’t think he ever elevated a roster. He’s arguably coming in to equalish talent to his last playoff team here. I don’t think he was good enough in those years, and I don’t think he will be now. I get it. We all love Lindy. But can we not admit that his win total comes from the fact he coached an organization that was under incredible turmoil and then a penny pincher. He was here because nobody wanted more. It’s long been a problem with the organization. I know I’ll take a lot of heat for this but this board incredible overrates Ruff.
