They would just draft a UFA they don't plan to sign from that team.

@Taro T it was a 2 Fast 2 Furious reference

He’s a more reasonable retirement than several of the names up there so I wouldn’t be shocked or disappointed. I’ll admit it’s partially selfish though because he was THE guy in net when I was becoming a huge hockey/Sabres fan at a much younger age. I normally advocate against overretiring numbers of players who “never won anything.” 2 Victor 2 Olofsson

I think Montreal knows their window is closed and was never actually open so they wouldn’t mind ridding themselves of Price’s contract to free that money up. I wish they had more appealing pieces so we could hear about Jack becoming the American savior to Canadien hockey.
-
To add to the rumors: there’s multiple Twitter sauces saying Tarasenko could end up in Philly through Seattle.
-
The worst part of Twitter is looking at the replies to any tweet that mentions Ristolainen. It just brings out a cesspool of Sabres fans who haven’t done math since grade school talking about how his “advanced stats” are terrible and he’s the worst player in the league. Okay, maybe not worse than the racists but definitely one of twitter’s worst areas.

Something this mystery exposed to me: Victor Olofsson and Vin Diesel share a birthday (today)

Today I had to tell my imaginary girlfriend that I have basketball to watch Tuesday, hockey Wednesday, basketball Thursday (if needed), hockey Friday and then basketball again next Thursday.

It’s funny because all we heard from Montreal fans was that Tampa was over the cap and cheated.

Expansion Draft -- Wed. July 21, 2021 (Release the Kraken)

This is damn good if they go without Carey Price which seems very likely (especially considering the knee news that just came out). But idk two Kales on one defense might be too vegan for this league. -

Yea you can use the CapFriendly tool to do a roster. I actually did take Fleury in my projection but didn’t put him in the lineup for whatever reason. -
Oh so THAT’S how Montreal is playing this, got it.

They’ll reach the cap floor with ease. -

I think they’re going to pass on some guys who I believe should be obvious (they’ll pass on one or both of Price/Tarasenko even though both should be locks). -

My first krak at a lineup: Gourde (TB) - McCann (TOR) - Tarasenko (STL) Niederreiter (CAR) - Domi (CBJ) - Eberle (NYI) Fischer (ARI) - Appleton (WPG) - Donskoi (COL) E. Svechnikov (DET) - Khaira (EDM) - Blackwell (NYR) Giordano (CGY) - Miller (BUF) Maatta (LA) - Sekera (DAL) Hagg (PHI) - Lauzon (BOS) Price (MON) Driedger (FLA) -
It’s not. Seattle can take UFAs they haven’t signed to deals. However, they can only take up two ten players that aren’t signed into next season. If a pending UFA signs a contract with Seattle they count as that team’s selection but DO NOT count as one of those ten players. Vegas selected three pending UFAs they never signed: Connor Brickley, Chris Thorburn, Jean-Francois Berube.
-
They can take players who are unsigned UFAs. It extends the exclusive negotiating window they have. They will take UFAs they haven’t signed and probably some they don’t intend to sign (from teams they don’t have any desire to select from).
-
Right. But this fanbase still rates him like he’s an NHL player and not an end-of-the-line prospect.
-
I’ll believe Borgen when I see Borgen. This team is not going to lose Risto for nothing.
-
Same. I have hope he’ll be traded. But that doesn’t mean I’m just letting him walk for nothing when the alternative loss isn’t that big. I have hope for Borgen but I’m not that worried if we can’t retain him.
-
I will scream it from a mountain top: in no universe do you expose Risto in favor of Borgen. Borgen is only two years younger but has played just 14 games with zero points. You protect Risto without even thinking for a second about the alternative.

I think odds are Seattle takes Miller. He’s an affordable expiring contract that can play on the PP and provides flexibility for either next offseason or going into the trade deadline.
