GAME DISCUSSION THREAD GDT: Buffalo at Pittsburgh 1-27-14 at 7:30 PM EST
Trettioåtta replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in Archive
The two goals we let in are unacceptable mistakes by the defence. It should be 0-0 -
Goal 1 - Backhand thrown on net. Soft goal Goal 2 - Straight shot on net from out high. Soft goal Goal 3 - Ott should have had his man. Saveable shot (as if he was a little taller it would hit his shoulder). But not his fault Goal 4 - Point shot that slid along the ice. Soft goal 3/4 goals were very preventable

Bennet reminds me of Toews

From TSN: Scouts do not believe this year's draft class has the same high-end sizzle and overall depth as last year's group that was headed by Nathan MacKinnon, Seth Jones, Jonathan Drouin and Aleksandr Barkov. And it would be fair to say there's more anticipation for the 2015 draft class, headed by highly-touted Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel, amongst others, than this year. But the scouts also cautioned that the top-end prospects this year are still excellent talents, just not necessarily potential stars.

My impression, having not listened or watched any of those things :P, was that Miller's point has been enough words, i want to see action. So rather than saying they will build up a young core and trade picks and prospects for young promising guys, go and do it. The fact is that the only trade in the last 11 months was getting rid of Vanek and bringing in Omark. We haven't done anything to make me think we won't be in last place next year. So I don't think Miller is more inclined to resign now than he was 11 months ago And for those wanting to tank next year. At best we have a 75% chance of not getting McDavid. There is no point hoping we suck as there is a very good chance we suck and don't get the next Crosby. I don't want a Taylor Hall, I want a Toews or Kane or Crosby.

Yeah probably not. To become a decent defensive player he would probably have to read the play really well and be able to intercept passes and generally use his stick to disrupt the game. But if he just backchecked a little harder and made sure not to lose his man in the defensive zone I think it would be surprisingly effective. Great defensive is a skill. Decent defence is a discipline

Gerbe is on pace for 36 points. He is an upper end 3rd line player who is a defensive liability that is easily abused on the ice with average speed. I still remember the Staal brothers trapping the Sabres in our end for about 2 minutes because anytime Gerbe got the puck they would just knock him over and continue to cycle it

Hired: Tim Murray, GM and Craig Patrick, Advisor

If we trade Miller and he wins the cup this year - I could see him resigning with us If we trade Miller and he wins a cup sometime in the future - I don't think he resigns as the Sabres will have moved on (hopefully) so he wouldn't really fit -
Twice? Random question

No, i'm not saying he won't be resigned but i'm explaining why the decision of his resigning was probably left to the new GM whereas PLF implied he would have resigned Miller before picking a GM -
He has 5 on the PP, so they don't count as Kassian doesn't get as much PP time. So Kassian has 8 and Cody has 5

Spitting can result in a 2 minute unsportsmanlike conduct right?

"Increasingly Substantiated BS" rumor thread- 2014 Edition
Trettioåtta replied to WildCard's topic in The Aud Club
I think that Ott has his role and it is important. However, he is not a star and will never be more than a solid 3rd line guy who can step up to the 2nd line if needed. I think the only players PLF would have signed to an extension would be stars (Miller, or Vanek if he was still here). I think Ott has a specific function and if the new GM wanted to create a team that had a different characteristic he might not fit in. Whereas stars are guys you build a team around and contend for the cup with, character guys like Ott are vets that win you the cup, they are not building blocks. I agree this team needs leadership and Ott offers that. However, he isn't the only guy in the league that can do that and so I think it should be the GMs decision who provides that service The girl-next-door is 195.5cm tall - but thank you for pointing out another reason the metric system is better :P -
I'll admit I am warming to this guy. Still unsure if it isn't a single hot season but I am starting to look forward to seeing him play. Does anyone know what is his style? E.g. Miller is positionally very good and reads the play very well to take away the lanes and then aggressively faces the shot

PLF would be unlikely to sign a role player like Ott (he isn't the player that carries you to the cup). Murray probably wants some time to evaluate talent. At least these are my hopes. Let's hope this isn't another Zubrus vs Driere situation where we chase our ex and fail to to see the 6'5' girl next door -
lol I don't remember people being hostile to me when I joined, but it seems the last few new guys have complained. Most notably i consider DStebb a broken stallion :P

Look at the talent Kassian has around him compared to Hogson. Not to mention with the Sedins taking the heavy defensive assignments from the other team that opens the game up more. Hodgson is the one who other teams send their best defense out for. Also Kassian has a crazy high shooting percentage (near 20%). That won't last (c.f. Drew Stafford's high shooting percentage year)
-
Thank you Mrs Kassian I really don't understand why Coho is a whipping boy on this team. He is doing just want he is meant to do, an upper second line centre. I guess he is the new Roy. A player put in a position to struggle by management and bizarrely ridiculed by fans who also ridicule the (former) management. Also, Coho is on a great deal at $4.5 mil and Pommers is on a great deal at $5.5 mil. I'm not sure why people think they are bad contracts. Leino is a bad contract. Clarkson is a bad contract. Phaneuf is a bad contract

Plus if the Oilers are ahead of us (the most likely team to be) they will pick Ekblad. So that doesn't even effect who we would pick
-
I thought she meant in total! Wow. Well that makes Miller a $7.5+ million goalie
-
He is saying the opposite. These three names always come up in trade rumours. He would be willing to deal one of the three. Thus he won't be willing to trade the other two
