  1. I have never really ventured into the world of TV. before I commit to watching games in the bad way this year, what is the cheapest option for someone who is in the Sabres' TV market and wants to watch all their games? Which app/collection of apps/potential VPN combos/whatever work best?
  2. I know that this is how they do it now, I'm sure he'll be a great player. Giving him 8.35 mil just 1.5 years after he played his first game as a Sabre, when the level of play I view him as having reached to date is around that of a good #4D, is just jarring in principle
  3. Not sure if this was posted, a nice little glimpse of his preseason Zach's skating and compete level and hands and shot all seem excellent, especially for his age. His processing speed needs to be talked about differently though. A couple of the plays broken down here show not only quick thinking, but chains of consecutive, instantaneous, successful decisions completely unrelated to each other, made at mind-bending speeds. This allows him to melt into whatever the flow of the play is, and be exactly where he needs to be/do exactly what he needs to do. You don't see this level of nuance all that often. I'm not trying to say that Zach is or will be as good as this player, but there is exactly one NHL skater that I see display these instincts every shift, and we threw away two seasons trying to draft him. Obviously preseason is much different from the regular season, and then the playoffs, but there is a reason this 18 year old made the roster of a team expecting to win playoff series. And it's not (at least in Zach's case) because we are in a "stealth development year" or anything like that. You just have to see what this looks like in regular season games, especially since injuries mean that the next man up is simply Tyson Jost (not a knock, but you aren't losing any of the games in the 9 game tryout because this guy gets Jost's ice time) I'm not expecting Zach to stay here past 9 games, and I'm not expecting a calder trophy if he does, but as someone who is not only willing, but desperate, to throw away prospects in trades to help now, I am clinging to this guy like I am stranded in the desert and he is my last drop of water
  4. Though keeping 3 goalies when 2 of them might be your 2 worst players is certainly a choice
  5. Stillman was OK at times, but it's not exactly surprising that Bryson was able to beat out that list of players. Nobody likes their 7D, but if there is any problem with this team it's not that Bryson was chosen over those guys but that the couple guys above him might be weaker players as well
  6. I won't be convinced that our nightmares are in the past until we toy with this team like the Bills do the Pats nowadays
  7. Preseason is preseason, and it is pretty easy for me to ignore the things I didn't like and get excited about the things I did. It's why I was in the Bills thread after that Pittsburgh game in August, calling people out. Would you rather be the Steelers or the Bills right now? The team that showed up and balled out in the preseason or the one that got shellacked? Trick question, I'd rather be the better team regardless of what happened on that field that night That stance is definitely easier to hold when you have the Bills' track record - they are in the midst of a stretch that, if capped with a Super Bowl win at some point, will be remembered in history. (please enjoy this and do not take it for granted btw!!) It's harder to hold when the Sabres' track record is, er, exactly what we didn't like about tonight. I am still excited about the year - excited at the players Tage and Casey have turned into, excited that it is pretty clear we are going to see some electric hockey, excited and impressed at Benson - what do we expect here? Is this really happening? We will see. I'm also nervous - coming to any one of us in early April with this roster, pointing at Connor Clifton, Erik Johnson, and the same goalies, would have had every single poster on this board sputtering in disbelief. This could be an INSANE blunder, a "how could you do that oh my god you need to be fired yesterday get away from my hockey team" blunder, if there are too many nights that look like our zone and crease did tonight. I don't think the fact that it happened in a preseason game is what makes me nervous, rather seeing the visual example of what it would look like and thinking of how disturbingly plausible it is. But I'm excited nevertheless, I bought seasons after all. I'm ready for the bullets to fly. Donny said offense was the hard part, and he can teach defense to anyone. Kevyn said we have 3 NHL goalies. I really hope they weren't just blowing smoke See you guys Thursday!
  8. This is an infinitely worse post to read than a post complaining about something that is indeed not good
  9. If I could give one attribute boost to one Sabre I would be torn between giving Cozens good hands and giving Tage a titanium back
  10. Dan doubling down on calling every single pass of any sort a "bump" this year, I see I thought Joki got puck there. That matters right?
  11. I've been pretty tuned out here, Benson is still here?? and looks like that??
  12. My biggest regret of the day (aside from White's injury) is that I watched that long Diggs TD silently with my arms crossed, completely convinced that they were making a weak push-off call. Told everyone around me that I thought it was coming back. It was of course awesome to be wrong and celebrate, but i missed out on enjoying one of the plays that will top Diggs' career highlight reel. I will learn to enjoy the game first and be cynical later.
  13. LaPorta is a good player, I drafted him in 4 of my 5 fantasy leagues and he's already starting in 2 of them. Detroit's entire passing game is the Goff classic play-action rollout, which is incredibly conducive to athletic tight ends. He's also the second most skilled pass catcher on that roster already. His big touchdown in week 2 came from busted coverage against a heavy box, the type of defense Josh hasn't seen since early 2020 and won't see again the rest of his career. As far as I'm concerned how Detroit uses LaPorta is completely irrelevant to us and Kincaid
  14. inkman has been doomposting about the Bills' imminent collapse since McDermott's first year here, that's just how he watches. 2019 was another year where it was very hard to convince him that we might be starting to turn into a good team. And of course, first in points per game and points allowed per game since then, second most wins since then, one of two teams with playoff wins each season since then, etc etc etc The film guys have been impressed with the ways that Dorsey has navigated a jumpy Allen through some of the best DL players in the game the last two weeks, on the way to blowout wins in which Josh was completely untouched (literally untouched against the best DL we will see until Philly except when he flopped to draw a call, that was the only play on which WSH was credited a QB hit) 2/3rds of our games have been obvious domination and heaps of garbage time. I get that fans want to see us rip passes to Kincaid up the seam. It will come, but you don't really want to empty your clip in these games. If things are janky and we lose to Miami, I will be annoyed. But I see fans who have never pressed play on All-22 come in the second the game is over and tell us all about how bad the OC was, and then 4 days later after 3 guys work their butts off dissecting the film, show nuanced and detailed highlights of all the things they liked, I am happy to "appeal to authority" and be convinced by that. Also, Kincaid is on target for the 5th most catches by a rookie TE in NFL history, despite not getting a look after the first drive last week. Everyone wants Madden numbers, but madden isn't real life. He's been running good routes, Josh's trust and feel in/for him will only increase, and it's week 4 of 18 Poyer is out, but so is Jaelen Phillips. I think that hurts Miami more than Poyer hurts us, he's been slow anyway
  15. I get how it all works. And I really like Power. The idea of handing out 8x8 to him right now still short circuits my brain
  16. Don't have high expectations, don't need him to be very good to factor into my idea of a good Sabres team in 23-24. But Granato squeezing something out of him would be a nice surprise.
  17. There are enough holes that the defense will not be the same force it was the last few years (Poyer is taking the angles of a 25 year old and just can't handle it, Hyde is also slower, MLB is an issue) but Rousseau looks LEGIT, Floyd played well, the corners were pretty damn good (in the pass game). It is good enough to win with an elite offense. Something happened to Josh and they had a whole offseason to figure it out and it seems like they didn't. Of course, he's had 4 turnover games in that building before, Joe Burrow had 5 turnovers week 1 last year, yaddah yaddah. I think this is a good football team but there are reasons to worry
  18. He just doesn't play quarterback. I've seen him do it, for a full season even (2020). He's not interested in it anymore. He plays madden
  19. Josh Allen started the day 17/21 and was driving before throwing that second pick. The Bills were completely on track to win this game, 23-13 or thereabouts. Dude is missing something upstairs.
