  1. I don't care if we have 1 and 3, you take Reinhart. He has the look of a star forward, to me. The rest look like they're going to be key contributors at best, but not game changers. Reinhart is the ultimate goal in my mind.

The ultimate scenario ( if the Islanders give us the 2014 Pick) would be having the first and second picks. Take your pick of forwards and Ekblad. Then call up the Oilers and offer their pick of Myers, Risto, Ekblad or Zadorov for Hall or RNH.

  2. From Cory Pronman ESPN Hockey Prospects Writer

Fasching was a fourth-round pick in 2013, but was an honorable mention for my top 50 overall drafted prospects during my midseason update. Fasching is likely still a year or two away, but he has the potential to be a significant top-six forward who contributes in all areas of the game. Even in a deep Sabres system, he's arguably a top five prospect in their organization.
  3. So if by some chance the Islanders give us their pick this year and we wind up picking 1 and 3, we pretty much have to take Ekblad first, right? They walk away with the top d-man and the leftover of Bennett/Reinhart. Honestly, given this scenario of picking 1 and 3 (which really seems about 50/50 to me at this point), I'd be very happy with any of the 3 possible combinations.

Whether or not the Isles defer is another topic all together, but I'd call it a coin flip at this point. They're so unpredictable with their incompetence.

I want them to win the lottery just so we can watch the Islanders squirm

Snow said on Sportsnet radio 590 today that they have to decide on deferment of their 1st round pick by June 1st.

The Islanders will probably be the number one competition for the 1st overall pick next year with the Sabres so them winning the lottery would help

  4. how can you start/teach a winning culture when your trying not to win and accept losing?

whats the vet going to tell them, "Its ok that you guys keep losing and can't get a win, look to the bright side, McDavid will soon be here to save all of you!"

Another option is to keep as many players with eligibility in Rochester for another year. Let them develop team chemistry and learn winning ways there.

  5. Which would put them exactly where they were for the last five or six seasons under DR. No thanks. No more smoke and mirrors roster building. Tank on.

The Young Bull/Old Bull Approach to the rebuild is the best course of action this franchise can take.

  6. Yahoo Sports declares the Sabres a deadline day winner.

    Winner: Buffalo Sabres

Pat LaFontaine resigned abruptly as president of hockey operations over the weekend, apparently after a power struggle, making the Sabres look even more laughable than they were already. But LaFontaine hiredTim Murray as GM, and Murray is off to an excellent start.

Murray parted with pending unrestricted free agents Miller, Ott, Moulson and McCormick. He acquired Halak and flipped him. He claimed Cory Conacher on waivers and acquired Stewart, Mitchell, a prospect and multiple draft picks – a first-rounder, two second-rounders and a conditional third-rounder.

Former GM Darcy Regier already started the teardown and added prospects and picks. Now Murray has to take all those assets and start rebuilding the team, and with LaFontaine gone, he should have the full authority to do it.
