  1. I get the impression that Tim Murray's strength is in player evaluation. Oster looks like a contract/CBA-oriented guy. Could be a good fit, and one that doesn't necessarily replace the functionality of Kevin Devine. There's no convenient list I was able to find, but I think a few teams have two AGM's, notably Boston (Jim Benning [player eval, trades, FAs] and Don Sweeney [player development]).

I think in keeping with the model of dumping money into the front office, there's no reason to drop Devine, unless it's a bad fit or an insurmountable personality or philosophy conflict.

    Sounds about right

  2. I still trade him. He's testing free agency no matter what at that point. Regardless of whether he's choosing between us or a contender as a FA, we might as well get a little return for taking that risk.

I would as well. If a second rounder is the best the Sabres can get, make it one in the 2015 Draft, which TM said was deeper.

Another option would be a conditional second rounder that becomes a first if Miller resigns.

  3. Devine was sitting in row one and Murray said his first job was to talk to Devine and get acquainted with the scouting department.

He also complimented the organization on the quality of its prospects.

I suppose the meeting could have been to put Kevin on notice, but I think it was more about "let's get down to work."

I could see the final decision on Kevin Devine's Future with the Sabres waiting until after the draft in June.

  4. We have a charming, competitive, thoughtful, well-respected icon running the hockey department — who knows people and whose name will open any door.

We have an edgy, aggressive, workaholic general manager whose claim to fame is his comprehensive knowledge of players and his ability to evaluate their worth.

And we have a legendary advisor who is laid-back, thoughtful, has seen it all, and won it all.

I'm not sure if I could have asked for a better team to lead the franchise.

    Perfect Statement

  5. Pat has the gravitas to correct Pegula, and Pegula will listen. Remember, this is the owner who cried in the presence of his heroes.

This is a huge step for Pegula; he hired someone who WILL correct him and WILL guide him towards a winner, rather than keeping a wishy-washy yes-man around. Just look at Pat's first move: he brought in Ted Nolan - talk about a ballsy, left-field move. Very, very exciting and this speaks volumes about Pegula, IMHO.

    This times a million
