If you are looking for a 3rd line winger I'll take Malenstyn over skinner. skinner does absolutely nothing for you on the 3rd line. You have to compare 3rd line skinner to his replacement not top line skinner who lost his job to JJP
-
Let's not forget that skinner was a 3rd liner the last few months of the season. He scored a whopping 9 goals from Jan 1st onwards. Those goals either came in lopsided win or against MTL. And for those that are saying the top 6 is worse now than it was to begin last season.. Your top 6 to begin last season was Skinner Tage Tuch Oloffson. Cozens. JJP ---------- I'll take Benson and Quinn any day of the week of Olofsson and Skinner

I find these takes amazing. We all watched last season and complained every game about this team being too soft and easy to play against. the bottom 2 lines regularly got caved in how do we forget so quick? I know it's been 2 months since the last game but still.... we lost good players ??? Who Jeff Skinner ??? 9 goals since Jan 1. Rarely, if ever, scored a big goal unless it was vs MTL? And when he doesn't score he brings absolutely nothing to your club Brind'amour wanted him gone when he got the job in Carolina , Ruff certainly wanted him gone this summer I can't get over that people don't remember how bad Skinner was Victor Olofsson? maybe you mean Girgensons?? who are these good players exactly ?
-
Yep. I was looping PP (so infuriating) in with coaching and these are the moves KA should have made last off season Just win baby. That will change everything Actually I thought that was rectified last year. But can always be better
-
It's almost like everyone forgot what the biggest complaints of last season were 1) coaching 2) lack of physicality, especially at the bottom of the roster 3) Jeff Skinner all 3 seem to be rectified
-
I'm comparing it to the team that started the 2023-24 season there was no way Adams was going to be able to sign a "top" 6 forward via free agency. No one at that level will sign so he filled in what was desperately needed - evergy and toughness on the Fourth line let's not forget it's July 2 not Oct 2nd. he might need to make a hockey trade to add 1 more player to the top 9. but maybe Benson is ready to take the role of 2nd line LW. He certainly was better in that role than Skinner was over the last 4 months of the season
-
Yep summer isn't over yet but this team is much better now. From coaching through to roster from where it ended the season they now look like a balanced team though, I'd love to see one more addition to the top 6 by trading one or two prospects and next years 1st if need be. let's see who has serious cap issues and find a trade partner
-
I'm not going to go back through game day threads but I feel like you were quite vocal about the lack of any "grit" on this team. That's exactly what they got. I love big Z. Wanted him back prior to last season but those type of players just aren't signing for the Buffalo. Need to get the playoff monkey off our back and things might change

Sabres Draft #14: Konsta Helenius, 5'11" 189lb Center

Maybe we should say Lundell'a game rather than Barkov? -

I wonder if Kulich will see more time on the wing in Rocheste in regards to potential - how would you rank Kulich vs Östlund vs Helenius ?? -
I thought he had a really good day to be honest. who did he miss out on?
-
If it's true that Hurricanes and Sabres have a trade in place for Necas but was nixed cause Necas wouldn't sign an extension. I would still make the trade. Make him play out his contract - he will be motivated. Then put your best foot forward, in a year he may change his mind....if not you've got more cap space to play with. a good season for the Sabres and they may no longer be at the top of everyone's No Trade Lists I'll add , it kicks the can down the road another year for either Kulich l, Savoie and or Krebs to fill the 3c position.
-
Maybe there is some more growth in Krebs or maybe even Kulich comes to camp and kicks the proverbial door in ?
-
I say it could be I'll say it again. Full year of Quinn . every young player a year older, an Average PP, difficult 4th line to play against and good goaltending for the entire season
-
Change to Plan B. JJP Tage. Tuch Benson Cozens Quinn Greenway. UFA / Trade. Zucker Malenstyn Krebs Lafferty One more move prior to the season I would guess
-
The reason they didn't make it last year was coaching and the goaltending over the first 2 months a full year of Quinn, an actual 4th line that brings energy and a PP that's at worst average and they can make the playoffs
-
Sam Steel?

PLAN A JJP. Tage Quinn Benson Cozens. Trade Greenway. UFA. Tuch Malenstyn Krebs UFA Plan B JJP. Tage Quinn Benson Cozens. Tuch Greenway. UFA. Savoie Malenstyn Krebs UFA
-
Agree to disagree. A former 30 goal scorer.
-
You can't say that for sure. The team last year would have been right there for 8th if they had a decent coach and goaltending for the entire season unfortunately, Adams can't force UFA's to sign. He can offer to over pay but we've seen enough instances where it still isn't enough. draft and develop is really the only avenue they have. Maybe he is our super Mario?
-
Having him and Kulich, they don't need to sign anyone to a long term contract. They can over-pay Stephenson (for example) think we have to get comfortable with the fact that one of Benson or Savoie will be a top 6 player this season and the other 3rd line winger.
-
I'll say they are better but they have a coach and Quinn didn't tear any muscles over the draft weekend They need a 3C more than anything else in free agency you get that and another 4th liner (William Carrier) and , no it's not great, but they have a chance
