  1. and look he is in the #21 slot? Great point on LA and Boston!
  2. I think the line that John Cooper used on Drouin the other day may fit Sprong perfectly - has to realize that there are two nets on the ice.
  3. Craig Button was also interviewed yesterday and gave two potential picks for the Sabres at 21. 1) Samsonov - (already discussed on board) thinks he is in the mold of Holtby 2) Guryanov - who I mentioned earlier this week Button on Guryanov "he is so explosive, so skilled, so dynamic and quite frankly, I don't like to push 18 year olds into the National Hockey League but he might be closer to playing in the league than further away" "He has high end NHL potential" Under 18 Guryanov highlites:
  4. Max Jones commits to the London Knights for the 2015-16 season. http://www.am980.ca/2015/06/03/london-knights-max-jones/
  5. anyone interested in doing a Sabre Space 2015 mock draft? taking turns to draft pick 3 through 30. I'll let Tim Murray's grandmother make picks 1 and 2. In-box me if you want to be a manager.
  6. the Finnish's Finish ability shouldn't be questioned yet. I understand he didnt score at the WJC but had 12 goals in 11 games in the Finnish under 20 league and 4 goals in 21 games in the mens league.
  7. 1000% agree and it won't be close - the kid is dynamite. Leafs may be forced to take Strome since they are desperate for a Center. Lets not forget Bozak is still their #1 center....
  8. Another early look at the 2016 by Draft Buzz 1. Auston Matthews, C, 6’2’’ 194 lbs, USNTDP U18, USHL 2. Jakob Chychrun, D, 6’2’’ 194 lbs, Sarnia Sting, OHL Report: More explosive than Ekblad, with as much offensive maturity in his stick. 3. Jesse Puljujarvi, RW, 6’3’’ 196 lbs, Karpat, LIIGA Report: Dominant outside threat is a shot machine. At risk for a fall if comp figures his speed out. 4. Matthew Tkachuk, LW, 6’1’’ 187 lbs, USNTDP U18, USHL Report: Beast with booksmarts and street fight can do it all. 5. Clayton Keller, C, 5’9’’ 165 lbs, USNTDP U17, USHL Report: Pure skill is Marner-like; could rise to top 3, waiting for physical growth. 6. Dmitri Sokolov, LW, 6’2’’ 212 lbs, Omskie Yastreby, MHL Report: Russian sniper rips twine off iron he shoots so much. 7. Alexander Nylander, RW, 5’10’’ 157 lbs, AIK, SUPERELIT Report: That legend of traits skipping generations doesn’t exist in this family. Possession King just like his bro. 8. Tyler Benson, LW, 6’0’’ 196 lbs, Vancouver Giants, WHL Report: Dominant shooter handles and carries team like a top pick. 9. Chad Krys, D, 5’11’’ 183 lbs, USNTDP U18, USHL Report: Could compete in figure skating with no problem; executes hockey plays with 3D vision. 10.Sam Steel, C, 5’11’’ 172 lbs, Regina Pats, WHL Report: Right up there with Keller for shorty with dynamite in his skates and
  9. Here are some recent rankings for Guryanov - Craigs List 20, Future Considerations 24, Draft Buzz 10, Mckeens Hockey 22, ISS 24. Those are the only ones I know of that have done their final rankings. I agree with a dislike for Kylington but the highest I've seen him ranked is 29 and the lowest is 70. Of course, there are more than just the 5 ranks out there that I've seen so far.
  10. Here is a player that we haven't brought up much but I keep seeing his name in the early to late 20's. Denis Guryanov RW Ladia Togliatti (MHL) From Future Considerations' "STRENGTHS: The big Russian winger is a speedy and skilled forward who has potent offensive ability. A very quick skater who can pick up steam in an instant and break plays open. Guryanov is a poised puck carrier who has a long reach and great hands to remain elusive to checkers" Weekness - WEAKNESSES: The birth certificate is his main area of concern. Guryanov has made no commitment to playing in the NHL and has not expressed his interest, meaning he is a real risk for the NHL team that selects him. If his name was John Smith from Toronto, he would likely be considered a top 10 pick by many teams. I think Sabres could be a team to risk it on him with their second pick in the first round.
  11. You need him to be ready to play in your top 6. there is no use having him take over McCormack's role on the 4th line. If he isn't top 6 ready then you need him to go to Roch.
  12. wont the odds change if the team holding the 20% chance get the top pick? then you would have 7.5% chance (up from 6% of getting pick #2). if the teams with the best odds of getting #1 and #2 end up with pick 1 & 2 in either order then the team with the 8th best odds would be near 10% of getting the 3rd pick. I think this is right but not 100% I still wouldn't trade away the Sabres #1 pick in 2016 because the top 7 or 8 in 2016 look like really good players. Plus, you would have to have a really good deal on the table to trade away your #1 pick with the draft in your city
  13. Looks like we are down to 1 highly ranked player to commit for the 2015-16 season (Matthews) as both Jost and Fabbro have both decided to stay at Penticton of the BCHL. think this means both will head to NCAA in 20016-17.
  14. Hanifin is a surprise - think it may be trying to stand out and be different from other rankings. Merkley at 11 is higher than what I've seen before - not to mention that he is above Barzal. He definitely isn't high on my two prospects - Zacha (I assumed we have to move up to get him) at 24 and Sprong at 38 (i was interested in with the 21st pick). Kylington is down at 48 - I believe he may be the biggest faller on almost all draft boards (including mine) from the beginning of the season. He has Samsonov at 14 as the first goalie on the list
  15. isn't it as simple as he will play vs men and earn about $500,000k. Plus I can think of worse places to live for a year than in Switzerland, Finland or Sweden.
  16. List of combine invites: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=768184 How about adding the 3rd tallest player in the 2015 draft with the 31st pick to upgrade Sabres D Depth: Brando Carlo: Future Considerations quote "A big, nasty, physical defensive defender. He’s an absolute monster out on the ice and skates extremely well for his size. His footwork is not perfect but definitely at a higher level than you would expect for someone who is six-foot-five." ranked 38th
  17. 78 points bottom 10 in league but making a huge step forward and ready to content in 16-17.
  18. now reported that it is close to 100% Matthews to Europe however teams from Sweden and Finland have entered the bidding.
  19. didnt post link - assumed most didn't have access to it.
  20. Corey Pronman from ESPN just released his mock draft and at 21 he selects Nick Merkley from Kelowna. "Merkely is 18 on my board, and has a ton of offensive upside although he's not the biggest player" from Future Considerations: STRENGTHS: Merkley is consistent all game in his work ethic and shows he has an excellent sense for creating offense. Very confident with the puck, loves to have possession and hold the puck far away from his body and cradling it away from oncoming checkers with poise and deliberation. His motor is his best asset. WEAKNESSES: Despite his ability to work through it, his size is a bit of a factor in why he is not rated as high as he could be. His skating also needs some fine tuning before he will be able to play at the next level.
  21. That should be the Coyotes posting that.
  22. Initial Top 10 from Future Considerations: 1). C Auston Matthews, US NTDP U18 (USHL), 6-2, 200 2). D Jakob Chychrun, Sarnia (OHL), 6-2, 200 3). RW Jesse Puljujarvi, Karpat (Liiga), 6-3, 200 4). LW Matthew Tkachuk, US NTDP U18 (USHL), 6-1, 190 5). LW Max Jones, US NTDP U17 (USHL), 6-2, 200 6). D Chad Krys, US NTDP U17 (USHL), 5-11, 185 7). LW Tyler Benson, Vancouver (WHL), 6-0, 200 8). LW/C Dmitri Sokolov, Omskie Yastreby (MHL), 6-0, 215 9). C Sam Steel, Regina (WHL), 5-11, 170 10). D Sean Day, Mississauga (OHL), 6-2, 225 its being reported that the Matthews decision is coming today or tomorrow. He is either going to Everett of the WHL or Switzerland.
  23. they also do a mock draft and they draft one of my top 3 guys; With the 21st pick the Buffalo Sabres select from Charlottetown of the QMJHL, RW Daniel Sprong. DRAFT NEEDS: They need a true puck rushing defender, depth on the backend and scoring on the wings. NOTES: The Sabres add the top potential goal scoring winger in the draft, but one who comes with a buyer beware warning tag attached. note they have Zboril going 20th to the Wild.
  24. Just purchased the Future Considerations Draft Guide. Zboril is ranked at 21 - a portion of what they wrote about him Strengths: "Zboril is a silky smooth defender with an elite understanding of where the play is headed. Amazing feet and constantly makes high-end reads on the breakout" Weakness: "A lack of consistency is the largest negative we can find with him as he can have a real impact one shift and then look like a total passenger the next five shifts." Zacha is ranked at 15 and I would love to see the Sabres move up to grab him if he indeed falls this low.
  25. I just think there are enough good prospects at D that you can pick one up at 31. Heck, Kylington may be there at 31 the way his stock is dropping. This isn't scientific at all but if you look at the top Dmen in the league they are either: 1) Drafted top 10 - Doughty, Pietrangelo, Suter, Hedman Ekman-Larsson or just as likely to be drafted in the 2nd round or later (Weber, Chara, Keith, Subban, Vlasic, Giordano) as they are to be drafted in mid to late 1st (Karlsson, McDonagh, Kronwall) List taken from: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=729524 Im sure there could be arguments on others to be included or excluded.
