  1. Skinner is on a hot streak for sure and since coming back from injury, Khudobin has been red hot in goal with the Canes on a 4 game winning streak. This is really a team that should be jockeying for ping pong balls, but because the Metro sucks, are in the hunt. It took that 4 game win streak to crawl back over .500 on the season.
  2. I think the deal is good for Buffalo. Do you really think the return would have been any better closer to the deadline? I don't think so. Vanek was a goner after the season. You guys got a quality player to sign or flip later and a 1st and 2nd. All that being said, you still have to have some veterans around or you end up like the Oilers.
  3. Your possible trading partners are only going to be willing to deal this early if you are willing to eat a bad contract in return. Fixing what is wrong with a bad team is not helped by taking on some other team's anchor contract. Darcy is much better served by waiting until closer to the deadline and letting the phone ring. An injury that results in LTIR might result in a team making a move before the deadline is close, but I think it's way too early now.
  4. Funny, mine has Canes stickers and magnets on it. I really have thought about doing the home brew thing.
  5. I get in trouble at the house when I'm out in the garage working on the cars, or sometimes when the weather is beautiful this time of the year, just sitting and reading a book. The beer fridge is in the garage. I guess simply having something that you call a beer fridge may be a sign. This is day 5 of no beer. Daddy wants a beer, but daddy looks a lot like Homer these days.
  6. That's promising. It's hard when I really do enjoy a few beers.
  7. You'll get no argument from me on that one. It has been bad at times, to the point where some Canes fans wouldn't attend the Sabres games. I have done my level best to urge those fans to suck it up and go, but like you said, it is what it is. Back to beer. I haven't had one this week. I'm trying to lay off and lose some weight. I have put on about 30 lbs of beer belly in the last few years and it's time to do something about it. Several a night over time will do that. Game days will be a different story. I'll be picking up some good seasonal beer for Friday.
  8. In the past, the Sabres at Canes game seemed to bring out the worst in some fans on both sides. This isn't just conjecture, the staff will tell you they have to put on extra security. Things have calmed down some in the last year or two to the point where they will schedule pre-season games. I guess that's progress. Now, the Pens have the most hated visiting fanbase spot. It's when all the Terrible Towels and Roethlisberger jerseys come to visit and be generally obnoxious. It must be something to do with what occurs after an Eastern Conference Finals appearance.
  9. I haven't been, but I know it's a trip I need to make. I have a daughter at NC State, so I'm up that way occasionally other than hockey games. I want to try out the tasting room. You wouldn't really resort the the raping, pillaging, or baby eating in the pre-season would you? The babies aren't even ripe yet.
  10. I'll be at the meaningless preseason game on Friday.
  11. All I know is that this time of the year is my favorite time of the year, for both of my passions, hockey and beer drinking. Hockey season is starting and proper beer drinking season has kicked off. Gone is all the fru-fru "spring and summer" beers, and Octoberfest beers and winter beers are getting in gear. Real beer that is dark like God intended it to be and not fruity or needing a slice of orange in it. Had a nice local Aviator brew, Oktoberbeast last weekend at Sammy's Tap and Grill in Raleigh. Good stuff.
  12. All I know is that Octoberfest beers are starting to show up on the shelves which starts the great beer drinking season, which magically coincides with the start of hockey season. Fall and winter brews are always my favorites.
  13. Super cool of the Prez to do His whole Secret Service detail did it and he joined them.
  14. So you really think Zimmerman was completely in the right here?
  15. I guess it had nothing to do with the overzealous, wannabe cop that followed him after he was instructed not to, got out of his vehicle to "check the street sign", community watch vigilante. Sure, there is plenty of blame, but I can't see Zimmerman as having no liability in this. If Martin had been carrying too, Zimmerman may have been the one dead and according to Florida law, Martin would have been in the right.
  16. Fantastic article. Even though I think Zimmerman's actions could have easily merited a manslaughter conviction, that article is about the most unbiased thing I have read on either side of the argument
  17. Oh in that case, he's innocent.
  18. Maybe the aftermath is the same, but the actions causing it is a completely different thing.
  19. Really? Rushdie wrote a book about a religion that has a fanatical faction and they want to kill him. There is no doubt that Zimmerman killed Martin. Whether it was "legal" or not is up to the court and the jury. After being found not guilty, he is now free to walk the streets in the state that allows concealed carry and stand your ground. The reality is that he will be a target, but I have difficulty equating what he did with an author writing a book.
  20. Rushdie wrote a book. Zimmerman killed a human being. I can't compare the "post incident" lives of those two.
  21. And I'm sure that was the logic in the decision. A lot depends on what the judge charges the jury to do and to consider. "Right" and "legal" are two different things. Zimmerman still should have heeded the dispatcher's direction and none of this would have occured. His actions resulted in the death of Martin. He has to live with that. He will never step into the daylight again without looking over his shoulder.
  22. If Zimmerman had done what the police dispatcher told him, and left it alone, this wouldn't have occured. As far as I know, Travon Martin was not doing anything illegal when the altercation occured. Zimmerman initiated the incident. How this doesn't result in at least a manslaughter conviction, I don't have a clue. I don't care what had been happening in the neighborhood, walking down the street isn't enough to warrant a confrontation. Keeping an eye on things is what a community watch is supposed to be about. Blaming a political party is useless in this matter, or most things in reality. Politicians of both parties are only interested in lining their pockets and getting re-elected.
  23. Just a question here. Is Darcy participating in the off season?
  24. Buffalo would have to give up way too much to make that deal work. Miller and Vanek aren't going to get it done as they only have one year left on their deals. Caps are going to want a couple of first rounders (at least) thrown in to even consider moving the face of their franchise. Miller and Vanek need to be moved in separate deals to maximize their return.
  25. This is exactly why the lockout pissed me off so much. The owners and GM's have to shut down the league to be saved from themselves and then go right back to the behavior that made them shut down the league.
