I noticed Barnes advertised during Bills pregame saturday and Cellino on the postgame. I wondered if that was part of their divorce agreement.

Don't hate that at all. I agree the drafting has yet to play itself out, although Dahlin is not something anyone should get credit for.
Cozens is clearly a tier above Turcotte and I'd personally rather have Johnson than Kaliyev, whose shot I love, but whose game I'm not a fan of.
Regardless of the above, Botterill was a poor GM and I'm glad he was replaced.
If Seattle hired him to provide cap analysis, they might appreciate him.

So Ottawa goes where? To hell obviously, but really, where do they play? With the NY teams and Jersey?
Valid point - I'd be willing to exchange Ottawa for Columbus. In setting my favorite Sabres division I didn't give any consideration to the remaining 24

Sabres, Bruins, Habs, Leafs, Flyers, Pens, Red Wings, Blue Jackets
I like regional and this is both regional and includes the most important rivals

What is more interesting is if teams like these divisions more, would they keep them permanently?
I think the biggest stumbling block to that would be geography. Look at increased travel for the Canadian division.

my very extensive record (and CD) collection contains no AC/DC and no Guns N’ Roses. Never cared for either of them except for a song here and there. Yet, I understand the importance of these albums within their genre.
I was a huge fan of the early Genesis music - the Phil Collins solo stuff, starting with No Jacket, was just a complete sellout and pure commercial drivel. Easy choice for me. 80’s music is a largely forgettable decade for me.
I still remember seeing Peter Gabriel at Kleinhan's very shortly after he left Genesis

Yes, I don't think it much matters unless it's measured against the guys they could have had. Like the obvious, you can rank Reinhart high, but Draisaitl would have been higher, so it's a fail. You have to look at that for each year, and if you do we draft very poorly. Very poorly. and we used to do it so well in the 70s.
I can't let that go without the Ric Seiling over Mike Bossy reminder

Schoeny. I was there the night he took on Orr, Vadnais, and Cashman. Nothing better for a 12 year old

Quinn appeared to be for need, JPP seems like BPA
It seems to me the Sabres thought more of him than the typical "BPA" because they moved up, however slightly, to draft him.

I can't imagine hockey doubleheaders at the NHL level. If attempted, it'll be all star game "physicality"

This drives me completely crazy. Do words have no meaning!? I reject this purposeful misuse of words.
If you just used the words that you really mean, you wouldn’t need to write this disclaimer in your post.
I understand exactly - for instance the Sabres have a starting goalie, frankly by default. The fact that he is the starter in Buffalo may make him "#1" but that doesn't mean he is a top 31 goalie.
Bob Kaufman was an NBA all star for the Braves. All it meant was that he was the best player on an expansion team

Oh, man. Really nice.
Top shelf for those memories. And we were all Rick when we called the game. (In fairness, I was equally a Darling guy.)
Marvin and Smell hit the perfect note

That's about as good a sequence of camera work, directing, play by play and commentary as you'll see. Faceoffs matter.
I still remember watching that game live. All 3 forwards headed up ice with the puck after winning the draw

My dad and older siblings went to Bisons games at the Aud. 1st Sabre game Dec 1970 in the grey seats
I attended a couple Bison games with Dad. In the fall '70 I couldn't believe the Sabres didn't get to keep Guy Trottier, Gille Villemure and others!
My first Sabres game was in the spring of 71 - Bert scored against the Blues to break the rookie goal record, which he held for a year thanks to Rico.

One of my old guys!
I brought Eddie Shack to Buffalo because I thought he could still score some goals and that he would excite the fans. I was right on both accounts as he scored 25 goals in 56 games on an expansion team. Then i traded him for Rene Robert, a guy I always liked. i needed a player that could skate with Martin and Perreault and I found him.

Thanks - always enjoyed him as a Sabre

I thought they said he wasn't going. this looks worse than if they said nothing at all while they decided.
I dont know why I bother following the sabres anymore. the team is laughably bad
My initial sentiments exactly.
I hope we're both proven wrong

I had high hopes for JBOT when he was hired, but he talks a good game but the results don't change. Now, I'm torn. He's got all the cap space to do what's needed this year, but if he F''s it up, we will be set back for ANOTHER 3-5 years. I think not getting a 2C and misusing D-Men assets this year was puzzling (kind word). But, I'm not in for another total redo. Hence, I'm torn. But, I did vote No to this management team.
My sentiments exactly

Saw the title of the thread and actually addressed it in my 1st post in this thread.
Was merely adding info. Doubt all that many people realize that the Habs took a chance in the 6th of '83 hoping that someday the Soviets would let him out.
Not nearly as dumb as wasting a 1st on a Czechoslovakian in the 1st 2 years earlier.
WHAT - no love for Jiri Dudacek?

Should have read student, not grad.
It was a long time with much heartbreak, especially 72

Before there was Belicheck and his smug surliness, before there was Johnson and his outsized Texas celebrity, before there was Parcells and his condescending hubris, there was Shula. Arms folded across his chest, hands on his hips, he presided over teams that stood in our way. Often, the obstacle was their fifty being better than our fifty. Occasionally, the obstacle was their one being better than our one.
Don Shula went to Canton as Noll and Landry did, granite faced stoics. They walked the sidelines with little animation. Their faces live in my memory like Rushmore busts. There were no sneers or shouts. There were no thrown clipboards. There were only leaders of men.
I wonder, from time to time, how we would have known men of that era had there been 24/7/365 multi-media non-stop quotes, quips and film. There wasn’t. And so, I know them as quiet Field Marshalls, masters of the gladiators of my youth. They are who I believed they were, not who they revealed themselves to be. I was a boy. They are Titans.
The first Bills game I attended was against the fish in '69 at the Rockpile. I was 8 and the Bills won. Then they went "0 for the 70's" and I was a college grad before they beat the fish again

It was a different era of junior hockey. Making the Jr. Canadiens was the most difficult cut those players survived in their careers!
