Same here. I was at the game.
I missed it - my mother wanted to go with Dad and did. I was glued to the radio and Ted's call

Up until Murray Les Sabres had a proud history. Even if they were not in playoff contention they left it all on the ice and the games were entertaining. Remember Gerry Mehen beating Favell and Shero's Flyers to knock them out of the playoffs. Shero said the only time he felt as bad was when he lost his mother. Now players can't wait to get out of town. The management and coaching hires are terrible. Couldn't they have gotten Burke, Trotz, Lamorello to name a few. They paid top price for players and coaches and got zilch. So sad.
Meehan scoring on Favell with 4 seconds left brings a smile to my face and wistful tear to my eye. I remember it well

He might flourish under Granato even more than he has in the past.
On the other hand, he might be worse. Granato may be a coach who focuses on giving the 'young' guys a chance in key spots, letting them get confidence on the PP when they normally wouldn't. Granato may want those younger guys to take key minutes as a way for them to develop. IF that was/is the case, that would mean Eichel would get a little less chance/less ice time in those situations than he has in the past.
Sounds like Harvey Johnson’s coaching philosophy with the Juice🤮

I can still hear the announcement of the goal in my head: 9:18 of the first overtime period.
I remember Robert broke the shutout in game 6. And, of course, I remember Rico's goal with 12 seconds left.
Aside: I am lucky enough to have a friend's audio tape of the third period of game 6 of the 1973 series against Montreal. In 1989, I was a the Clarion Writers' Workshop in Lansing Michigan (hey, my activity fee went to that, so why not?) where we were to write a brief short story around an exercise from Damon Knight's Creating Short Fiction about an incident from our childhood which was meaningful to us and to examine why. So I picked the fans and the players for "Thank you, Sabres." I wrote a fictional story about who was the first person to yell that, how it caught on, and how the players reacted, and the post-game interviews.
"First Buffalo goal scored by number 14, Rene Robert. Unassisted. Robert, unassisted. Time 11:41."
"Second Buffalo goal score by number 7, Rick Martin. Assists to number 8, Jim Lorentz, and number 11, Gil Perreault. Martin, from Lorentz and Perreault. Time 19:48."
This brought back so many WARM memories of my youth. Thanks

Sabres: Dustin, you were a nice story but we found a better one.
We're giving your net to a career ECHLer who was born with club feet and just won his first start of his career at 28.
Dustin: ***** you, I quit.
Somebody remembers Al Smith's retirement from the Sabres!

It's a tad disingenuous to go back to Little League with Drury, but cleverly skip to college for Eichel.
He won the U18 Gold as 1C.
Agreed - and I'm not blaming Eichel. As a freshman he helped get his team to the championship game, they simply lost to Providence. A U18 gold is an impressive achievement, and says alot about what he can accomplish with adequate teammates.
Drury is simply a winner, an intangible many athletes don't have. Eichel may well have it, he just hasn't had the opportunity to put it on display

Athletic talent? Eichel, by country mile.
Complete hockey ability? Eichel still wins probably
Accomplishments? Drury's currently ahead by a fair bit
Drury is a winner, going back to Little League baseball.
Starting with college, Eichel hasn't won

I'm going to go further back and say he could be our new Bill Hajt. often unnoticed, often overlooked, but solid, stable and dependable game in game out. Exactly what a successful team needs.
You beat me to it, but I was going to say if he becomes Hajt, but not Ramsey I’ll be very happy

Once he pulls on a B's sweater, Taylor Hall becomes my most hated bruin since Schoeny had to fight Orr, Vadnais, and Cashman

I think we also have to factor in Hall's NMC, based upon what he has said post trade

I like what he's done. He knew what things were wrong and has tried to correct them.
That said, do better.
While I don't necessarily disagree, there is a part of me that likes this NHL asst/AHL head coach experience better than a fired former nhl coach. At a minimum, he has earned serious consideration, rather than just lip service and a perfunctory interview.

What I like, so far, about Granato is that he is putting players in a position to succeed. He’s getting the best out of what he has, rather than senselessly pounding a square peg into a round hole.
he may be what this team needs right now and has plenty of ahl (developmental) experience.

He pillaged the entire Western Conference.
He'd even trade guys to teams that he DIDN'T have their #1 pick to make sure they'd finish ahead of teams that he DID hold the 1s t round pick of.
Of course, it also didn't hurt that he could take the top 2 French Canadian prospects out of Quebec with his 1st 2 picks. That one changed for good in '70. Had it not, that wheel spin still would've only landed Dale Tallon.
Never thought about drafting GM Tallon because we couldn’t get a French Canadian.
the wheel might as well have landed on one of that was the situation🤔

Yeah that's the standard thinking, that Toronto will add Hall, or somebody else also.
I'm just ready to see some action.
If it was Toronto, I’d think the trade would already have been made to get the quarantine done. No sense waiting once Palmieri was gone to the isles

Because Buffalo.

One reason this gives me pause to think it might be real - Team USA was alot of fun to watch and well coached in the recent U20 worlds

Haven't scrolled through yet, but the title immediately made me think "Thank You Sabres" growing from a low murmur to an Aud filled chant as the Habs eliminated Buffalo in 1973.
I was already a diehard, but that night still brings warm memories about possibilities

Jeff Skinner Agrees to waive His NMC for Expansion Draft

Agreed - I view it as an indication that Adams has a plan. This gives him additional options and he doesn't care whether Seattle takes Skinner or not.
